We're back!

After a disaster in our datacenter took down our server, we are now running Pinside on a brand new server. However, things may not work as expected as we are still polishing the playfield and adjusting some switches! We might be switching to maintenance mode a few times. Please see this forum topic for more info.

maybe I'm out of the loop (guaranteed) but what are these achievements and why do they matter?

I'm with you on this one who cares?

The issue is, apparently they matter enough for people to corrupt pinside data with false information in order to achieve them.

I guess people have no shame...

More like internet porn and jerking off isn't enough for them anymore.

Should have a ‘this user lacks integrity’ badge that’s worth -275,000 achievement points and gives them an avatar from the lowest ranked pinball machine.

Or there was a few fartknockers that decided to have some sort of competition to see who could earn the most points not fully realizing the false locations might have some ramifications.

It’s not just limited to the pinside achievements, I remember seeing a post some time back (could easily be a year or more) about a pinsider pm’ing another pinside to ask them to log out for a day so they could get closer to the top of the login streak table. Totally forgot about that until this thread reminded me.

Well millennials love their hacks......short cuts and cheats are a way of life for a lot of the younger generations. Fake it till you make it baby!

I'm only speaking for myself. You can blame me and I've now "cease and desisted" myself I had no idea Pinside was automatically posting on Twitter for new or updated locations. I had updated a few locations last week and this week (from another site already mentioned) with games so I thought I was doing some good and saw it gave a few points to boot. I positively made sure the last time it was updated wasn't more than 90 days AND updated any missing info like phone numbers and website urls. A lot of the locations I updated here didn't even have a pins listed.

So, as far as the achievement thing...besides posting on Pinside, I've always tried to update pictures, links or data here and there when things would get slow at work. I'm a mod on another forum and update a data base there so I'm used to monotonous data entry. The first I noticed any point system is for tagging pins mentioned/related to a topic. I must have tagged thousands of games that weren't originally tagged to posts. That was around the time Pinside was using "Karma" points or something like that. Robin later created the achievement points and ported over peoples Karma ala 2013ish. I thought it was kind of a fun thing to do while helping the site grow which was the reason for its creation. Some may think its dumb but I think Pinstadium is dumb. I liked trying to find Easter eggs in pins and games like Mortal Kombat. A guy found a hidden menu for Mortal Kombat 2 only recently but I digress. My intentions weren't to "game the system" or "stoop this low for what are worthless, buried, badges on Pinside". However, I had asked a few members here if they would follow me for a follow back. I actually had some nice correspondence with some Pinsiders. Some people responded but after a week or so I deleted the mail. Sorry if that bugged anyone - again, the intentions were not nefarious. Seriously, I apologize for any alarm.

I came in here looking for tips on how I could game the system, but everything mentioned has been shut down.

I guess I could still fish for followers.
