More issues with this Upper Deck. I got the grand slam feature working. Thanks pinballdaveh. The latest issue is the game just stops working in the middle of a game. It won’t pitch or anything. Prior to that, the last game completed but the game over light did not come on. I don’t know if the 2 issues are related. I suspect they may be.

The other issue is that when the game starts it always seems to default to 2 players. I can never seem to make it just 1 player. This is my first pitch and bat. I don’t even know where to start. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Game over is lit in this picture so it was working prior to these issues.

Now the game won’t end. Just keeps playing. Anyone know where the game over relay is on this machine? It says mech board but I can’t find it. I’m tying to get this ready for a party on Saturday. I don’t think I’m going to make it.

This can’t be right. This is on the main motor. Spider fingers hitting 2 rivets at the same time.

If the whole machine just goes completely dead in the middle of a game, it is most likely from the score motor not seating correctly after a rotation. No schematic or manual is available online, but I am guessing there is just one switch on the score motor that needs adjustment. On the Index Cam, look for a switch that controls the “motor run”. This is a generic picture from another WMS EM. The top switch should be open upon rest.

Thank you. I will look at that. In cleaning all of the stepper units, I somehow completely missed this main one. I can tell because there’s no dielectric grease on it. I do have the full schematic and manual. Right now the problem is the game just keeps going with no end.

Cleaned and rebuilt inning unit stepper. It’s was pretty gummed up and sticking. Main problem seems to be fixed. Still defaults to 2 players.

Spoke too soon. Innings are not counting correctly. Sometimes they are repeating. I’ve had it.

Check and clean score motor cam 1, normally open bottom switch . It’s not closing strong enough to relatch the 2nd coin relay. Staying on a 2 player game after reset.

Thanks. I appreciate the help. It just so happens that’s the exact stack of switches that had one of the little nylon lifters break off. It was the top one that broke. I replaced it but I didn’t have the correct size. The one I used was a little shorter. That’s got to be it.

I just cleaned and check it. That’s pretty tight even with the smaller lifter. I don’t think that’s it. It’s still comes up to 2 players and innings are still not always advancing. If I manually operate the out relay, the innings advance every time. It looks to me like the stepper with the bell is sticking. I think that’s the out unit although I don’t see the bell on the schematic.

Total playmeter is not working. I put a new coil in there. The old one was burned up but the counter is not moving. I only mention that because it’s connected to the coin relay. Maybe that helps narrow it down.

Check on the coin relay for a normally open switch with BLU-O and Y wires on it. If this isn’t opening properly the playmeter will stay energized and burn up, and the 2nd coin relay trip coil will stay energized and not allow the latching operation to stay latched. The credit unit subtract coil also works off of this switch. Is there any problem with that?

I just checked. That switch looks good. The credit unit counts down correctly.

I’ve almost got it. Took apart and cleaned the remaining major stepper units. That’s all 5 of them. I haven’t taken apart the score reels year but I did clean and check all the switches on those reels. Innings and game over seem to be working correctly now. I still can’t get it out of 2 player mode and the play counter still isn’t working. The game is set up for quarters so I’m just tripping the coin switch.

New playmeter coil is reading 3 ohms. I don’t know if it should be that low. I think that’s the only coil of that type.

2nd coin latch relay was misadjusted. It wasn’t latching. Adjusted by loosening these 2 screws. One player works now. Playmeter still doesn’t work. It doesn’t look burned up but the 3 ohms can’t be right.

One other issue I see is that if there is 1 or 2 grand slams from the previous game, they are not resetting for the next game. I don’t know if this is supposed to be a carry over feature. Maybe it is looking at this grand slam adjust setting but I’m not sure. No issue with the control motor impulse cam bottom switch.

The grand slam feature is a carryover and does not reset to zero when starting a new game.

Good to know. Thank you.

I’ve got pretty much everything working. One minor thing is sometimes the playmeter coil will not release causing the counter to get stuck. The coin relay switch looks good. Could be because the brass screw holding the old coil broke and I replaced it with a regular zinc screw. I read somewhere that the screws holding the coil must be brass because other screws can magnetize the frame. Ordered some brass screws.
