Am I the only one who has completely failed updating with the Spike system?

All well and good to follow the instructions in the backbox but clear as mud as to how to format correctly?

My card has 6 partitions on it?

I think I re-formated all of them and then put the update ( KISS 1.30 ) into the biggest partition.

Game doesn't seem to want to update.

And I can't now play the game at all!

I couldn't find any clear instructions anywhere re these flash cards.

Guessing I have done something wrong big time.

Do I need a new card or is this saveable?

Wait, did you reformat the SD card?
That's not the procedure for loading new code on Spike platform. All you needed to do is download and unzip the file to a USB stick and plug it into one of the open slots on the main board in the backbox.
Go into menu and run the update process.

If you reformatted the SD card, which it sounds like, you'll either need to make a copy of someone else's or contact Stern for a replacement.

    Oh no.

Yes, I reformatted the SD card.

On Spooky games you have to do this so I misunderstood that the code goes onto a separate USB stick.

I have a friend with a KISS so I guess I try and copy his card or get new one from Stern....

    Will get it sorted, thanks.

There's procedures outlined somewhere on pinside that explains how to make a backup copy of the Spike SD card to a PC. Like you mentioned, you could get your friend to do that with his working card and then dump the backup down to your SD card. Then try to normal update procedure. Or contact Stern for a new SD card altogether.

As for update procedure, it is outlined in the Readme file at the top. Did you read the readme file?

    1) Download the latest code for your game by visiting
    http://www.sternpinball.com/game-code
and following the links to the software update
file for your specific game model.
    2) Place game software update file (GAMENAME-VERSION.spk)
into the root directory of a blank FAT32-formatted USB flash drive.
    3) Use backbox power switch to turn off game.
    4) Plug the USB flash drive into a CPU board USB connector at CN20 or CN21.
    5) Turn the game on.
    6) After a few seconds, the "GAME CODE UPDATE" will run.
Use the 2 middle service buttons to select an SPK file.
Press the "Select" service button to start the update.
    7) When the display indicates "UPDATE COMPLETE", turn the game off.
    8) Remove the USB flash drive from the CPU board.
    9) Turn the game on to play pinball!

Yeah, read it a few times. I just made the error that the blank USB flash drive was a blank SD card. On Spooky RZ you have to reformat the SD card to FAT32 so it never even occurred to me that I just needed to put the code on a normal USB stick like you do on SAM games.

Oh, well, guess I now have to wait even longer to get the KISS update.
