Updating ROMs, is it worth it?

Just wondering of it's worth updating ROM's. I'm shopping my Flash Gordon, and was wondering what the advantages are of upgrading my roms, other than software bug fixes. Do they change rule sets, or are they more transparent, background unseen fixes.

As always, thanks for any input/thoughts.

It really just depends on the specific game that you are dealing with. Some updates fix bugs, some add additional features, etc. You should be able to find a changelog of the versions to show what is being changed - then, I guess it's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not.

Don't know much about your FG, but I'll be upgrading the rom in my SW DE as it definitely addresses some of the buggy software.

I upgraded my Lethal Weapon 3 to latest rom. HUGE difference. Better sound and game play. Do it.

They updated the ROMs for a reason and they are not expensive. I always update mine.

I usually get them form that pinball place. web site is www.thatpinballplace.com. The newer USB sam board codes for Stern games can be downloaded right from the Stern site.

I typically update them all. Like Seal Clubber said they are updated for a reason.

Actin Amusements also sells the roms but requires a deposit for the chips themselves. He lists the rom history too. Rom history can also be found at the internet pinball database at ipdb.com.

Hope this helps.

The benefits of updating roms on modern games are often listed on the IPDB site. Sometimes they are major improvements and sometimes extra language or pricing options. It is always worth a check I think. In general if a game is a keeper it is worth doing.

I don't think SC wants to hear my LW3 until I update the ROM
