PinMonk yep exactly what it was. This is my first new stern, still getting familiar with under the hood. Thank You

Im having problems with my left outer orbit registering. I bought the Pinball Life opto fix and they have been working for awhile. The Problem seems to be the 2nd opto not registering the shot as I get the sound effect when it passes through the first one. Whenever I hand feed the loop it registers every time, Whenever I flip it or plunge it mechanically it does not register at all. I have cleaned the optos and reseated the plastic angle. Still nothing.
Any Ideas as to why this is happening?

#7644 3 years ago

I have
it reads the right orbit every time
its just the left outer does not register unless i manually feed the ball

#7645 3 years ago

its so bizarre
just played a game where 0% of the left orbit shots registered
every other orbit did
took the glass off and manually fed the left outer orbit 100% of the shots registered.
kept the glass off played a game 0% shots registered whether by auto plunge or flipper
manually all shots registered. some I did fast, some slow
it makes no sense

#7646 3 years ago

When I put it in switch test the 2 optos and roll over switches all register every single time
whether manually, flipped, or autoplunge

#7648 3 years ago

Ive done slo mo with the manual feed and the flipper feed
both look the same and ball is where it should be in its travel
same results
in switch test all three register whether its manual or flipper/plunge fed

@pinmonk
Awesome!!
Seems to be working!!
Ill Play around with it and continue to monitor

#7653 3 years ago

1 hour later, 15 games later and I say its registering 80% of the shots.
in fact I just had my best game ever of 480 million
I took off the piece I got from PInball Life when I applied the tape
debating if I should put it back on or just be happy with the 80%

Thanks Again @pinballmonk i really appreciate the help

#7654 3 years ago

after 5 more games it seems like it is now registering 25% of the time
Im going to tape the receiver of the opto to see if that helps

#7661 3 years ago
Quoted from KnockerPTSD:

Dont tape the receiving end. Whats happening (with most loop opto. Not necessarily yours) is that the ball passes through the beam so quickly that the opto doesnt register a broken beam. Covering half of the output side reduces the size of the beam thereby causing the ball to break the beam for a slightly longs time giving the opto a chance to recognize what happening. I did this and my loop is all 100%.
Covering the recieving end would technically do the same but you are making it much harder to line up the optos. Narrow beam with large reciever will work much better than a large beam with a narrow reciever. Good luck

Was it a matter of "dialing it" in terms of tape placement and coverage in order to achieve the 100%

#7670 3 years ago
Quoted from KnockerPTSD:

Except this isnt accurate. I have a tool that actually sees the opto on my screen and mine qere aligned perfectly. The loop was getting so fast on repeating shots that the ball was flying through the opti so quickly it wasnt registering. The tape method is not ridiculous as many have done this and it not only works but makes sense. There is a reason people sell opto blinder mods for this title. A little piece of tape wont hurt your game or ever be seen (or thought of) again.
Also, IF it was just helping with alignment, a piece of tape is so much easier to do than an adjustment lol

I do have the "blinder" mod and It worked great for awhile then it stopped registering
I have the Tape method in place currently and its working 50%-80% of the time
Would the tape and blinder together be effective?
Any other type of alignment adjustments to be made?
