Quoted from billrz:

Can someone tell me why this happens, and if there is an easy solution? When my trooper locks are lit and I hit the center ramp, the majority of the time it locks the ball, even if it comes out the right side? Has this happened to others ?

Put it in switch test mode and hit the playfield with your open palm firmly a few places around the upper PF. See if it triggers any switches. You may have a switch that's triggering from vibration.

Thanks for posting the results and photos

Quoted from JMK:

Thanks for posting the pics. I don't have the same product on hand but will give this a shot as well with something similar or deadening foam.

No worries at all I've been thinking about this today at work and whether there's a better way to go about this. One idea i was toying with was to create a "barrier", probably out of thin acrylic sheet (say 2mm) that could screw onto the bottom of the PF, perhaps using the existing rail screws to attach it with. This would sit parallel with the edge of the PF but not flush with the edge, so basically as close to the mech as physically possible and then use the Dynamat sound deadening on both sides of the acrylic sheet. I would make the acrylic sheet perhaps 30cm long (depends where the rail screws are situated) so it may be much more effective having that larger surface area to block the sound. As mentioned before i'm not keen to attach a piece of the Dynamat to the cab sides cause i'm damn sure it would wreck the paint if removed. Ideas???

Picked up the pingraffix blades at Allentown for $65. Bitch to install. Glad I watched Supernova’s YouTube vid on using the wet method. Look nice though. I guess if you do it all the time, it’s not too hard. Now, waiting on my Mezel Mod order.

Mystery Protector?

Please tell me where on the PF the protector in the middle of this photo belongs. If you're going to say the Super Jackpot lane/target, it doesn't really fit there, despite having the tell-tale "tear-drop" cutout. Kit is from Little Shop of Games in FL - perhaps the only "complete" kit.

Thanks.

The protector you speak of is in the upper right of the photo. I know its location on the PF. The mystery protector is in the center of the photo.

Sorry if this has been covered, but what is the function of the "upper deck" of the Sarcophagus ball lock cover? By upper deck, I'm referring to the "wing," with its mysterious polygon shape. This mech seems to be an effort to put several ugly screw heads in a prominent place. I like to see the balls in the lock, so, speaking of mods, I'm less keen on repurposed sarcophagi. If someone's going to make a mod, a basic, clear cover would be nice. Mechanical engineers don't incorporate wasted materials into pin designs, so I'm guessing someone is going to clue me in shortly about the essential aspect of this thing.

You're confusing pro vs premium. The protector is different for each. I'm assuming you have a Premium/LE and that protector in the center (for the sarcophagus on a pro) isn't used.

This ^^^..........and make sure that if you ever take it off that you put it back on correctly because it will screw everything up if you dont. Don't ask me how i know this.

And thanks for this info, too. Very helpful! I just wish LSoG would make a protector for the triangular plastic at the drop targets. That thing is unsupported/pointed - perfect for breaking!

Joining the club today! And I gotta say zmeny Zach at Flip N Out is awesome. I ordered my pin yesterday afternoon, he got it shipped last night via fedex, and it's already here and ready for pickup this morning at the depot! Freakin sweeeeet. I like depot pickup as it helps save me on shipping costs.

Just added a Pinnovaters sub out card to a Polk Sub - really adds to the sound
I much prefer an external sub over upgrading the one on the bottom of the pin

Next mod is the shaker motor on it's way from Stern.

I have one of those cards on mine too, love the deathblow deepness through the 500w powered 12

I like upgrading the internal sub with pinwoofer kit, it adds more to the machine and you can FEEL the music and sounds!

Can feel it plenty with a large sub under the pin - and the quality is going to be better in both the amp, speaker components and enclosure designed to be a subwoofer not a pinball machine
+ I can't stand the machine rattling from base .. of course I am also not the guy driving down the street with his entire car rattling from subwoofers

I totally hear you on that. My bass thumping car days are long gone. I turn the bass up until there is a hint of rattle then turn it down a tad. I hate rattling too.

On that note - she’s home!

Premium. We played a pro on location quite a bit. This one provides some great variety for us!

Playfield Accent Lights, Anyone?

I want to add a fistful of accent lights to the PF on IMDN. I've done this in the past on SAM games and I just wire the lamps to their nearest GI sockets. However, given the frequent complaints about the fragility of SPIKE node boards, I thought I should ask: what are the risks to adding to the draw of the GI circuit?

I've read testimonials from numerous SPIKE owners here on Pinside who have added a few (3-8) accent lights to their games with no issues. I've also heard from Greg at Comet on this and from Lermods. Still, when I brought it up with Chas at Stern, suggesting Pinball Life's accessory power supply as a safer solution, he said this:

"Power that is used by the GI system on Spike games is carefully monitored. Adding lamps will cause an over current error. This board is not made by Stern so it is not test or approved by us."

https://www.pinballlife.com/accessory-power-supply-for-stern-spike-spike-2-system-machines-cabinet-mounting.html

Still, is this Pinball Life product the safest route to take when adding ten-or-so accent lights to Spike? Or do I run for luck and just wire each light to its nearest GI socket?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Pinball Life's "Upgrade Kit": How to Install?

https://www.pinballlife.com/iron-maiden-upgrade-kit.html

To those of you who have installed the above kit, please clue me in on just where the reflectors go. The kit comes with no instructions; buyers are instead advised to consult a photo - see below. It shows one reflector, mid-install, on one opto. Got it. Still, the kit comes with *two* reflectors. Does the second one go in a second opto that I'm overlooking? The one opto I see is on the elbow (upper right) of the loop.

Thanks.

I went with the pinnovators board as it was only $35
Have the clips on TWD - but for $35 figured I would try the board
Very happy with the sound.

Also, just installed a shaker - eh....
Probably could of done without it.
Much more suited to a game like TWD

Is there a headphone/exterior volume control for Maiden and other Spike 2 games yet?

I have the Official Stern one in my game, but recently there is also also a non branded one for half the price

Just an FYI. My cousin and I both got the $49 non branded version for our Pro models.
Mine went two weeks before the left channel just gave up and went out.
Pinball life did replace at no cost to me and so far so good.
However my cousin just had his quit altogether
I have Pinnovators on all my other games and have never had a single issue.
Sure wish they were providing for Spike 2 games.

Ball Routinely Stuck in Sarcophagus: Solution?

My Sarcophagus mech does its raise/lower dance continuously when it can't eject a ball at the end of a game. The mech is supposed to swing low enough to dump the ball out the back, allowing it to drift over to the mode ramp kickout beneath the playfield, but for some reason the ball just hangs around inside the mech. The game then does a ball search but can't expel the ball from the mech. I have to lift the playfield and coax the ball out. This happens every game, so clearly my Sarcophagus needs to be adjusted somehow. Ideas? It seems to have something to do with its range of motion. A little more dip and the ball would probably dribble out as designed.

Thanks.

It has to be hanging up on the switch Jason. What kind of switch is in there, is it a roller switch or what?

hey all. I'm having a very peculiar problem that I've never seen before. When I boot up my game it automatically goes into "mystery award" mode. And every time I hit a flipper I get points. See video and please lmk why this might be happening. fyi I tried re-installing 1.06 (the most recent) and that doesn't seem to help.

Your newton ball on the left is registering hits from vibration or needs to be adjusted. Put it in switch test mode and you'll see it. If it's not immediately obvious smack the playfield with your open palm to create vibration which should trigger it.

Adam it could be that the hex post underneath that sits in the spoon switch just came loose. If its loose tighten it up and see if your game starts working properly again. Try that before you adjust the switch. Problem is they keep coming loose. You can put a drop of blue loctite on it to keep it from coming loose if you need to.
