Has anyone upgraded their speakers to 5.25 kickers in backbox and a kicker in cabinet with pinwoofer amp??

I did so and the sound isn’t what I thought it would be. Played with all settings and still lacking. My DYI with fosi pro amp and same speakers in my JP is way louder and punchier .

Any advice or feedback appreciated.

Did you turn off or flatten the equalizer? On 4 or 8 ohm?

As Kevin pointed out, they have tighter tolerance..but also made with an updated material that increases their hardness. You can search the stranger things thread for "bushings" to learn more. (The recent stranger things run at end of 2023 was the first run to use them).

Yea… equalizer off. Sounds a bit better when I use 10 channel equalizer and adjusted to specs listed in DIY thread.

Just don’t feel it’s loud enough and punchy.

What are your settings?

If you want more like me add a 10 inch polk/klipsch sub under cabinet.together its great.

100% agree. Added a 10”klipsch sub to my IM premium last week and WOW, what a difference it makes. Just order the low line out board from Pinnovators. Easy add on.

Got my parts thanks to your recommendation. How did you install the piece of mind Eddie ?? Stuck on best placement and how to.

I put him over top of the left ramp. I just used adhesive tape under both feet. I later added an electric tie around the post and his left ankle. I think that he looks best in this spot.

I was floored how much it sounded like a “tomb”. This, the removal of back GI, and Guovia’s bash toy Gus completed this pin for me. The Atmosphere is insane!

Quoted from Sluggo39:

Anyone using precision flippers on Maiden, I’m thinking about trying them on my premium.

Quoted from Harvester:

I installed the solid version a few weeks ago and settled on Titan standard flipper rings. The Superbands were good for control, but too much spin and overly grippy. PerfectPlays way too bouncy. I don’t use the faux rubber flippers to avoid rubber debris on playfield. Overall, solid improvement to aim and consistency and can drop catch and dead pass well. Recommend Halos if you prefer a slightly softer feel. Good purchase.

I did the halos, currently using the comet black rubbers. Almost seems unfair. As mentioned above, solid improvement.

3D printed mine and a few other items. Place him in the same spot with hot glue!
I think one of my favs though is the obelisk in the back corner.
Added a lot to IM, my foo is next!

Do you think its more the bushing or the flipper bat?

Quoted from Gunner007:

Well. I didn't try the same old flipper with the new precision bushing. Nor did I try the 'newer better stern' bushings. But holding the OG and the precision in your hands, the looseness and wiggle on the OG vs the non-wiggle on precision is an obvious difference. Would like to see the slo-mo video people do a series on the precision flips to compare.

The way it happened for me was hitting up a local pinball brewery (shout out locavore beer works). They've got about a dozen machines, most with precision flips. I hit 500M on a venom that day it just felt so tight, I'd never played a venom that felt like that. Went home straightaway to install the precision flippers on the GnR that I'd bought the prior month but hadn't installed yet. Couple days later, ordered up a set for IM and MTL. Bliss. Night and day, it completely changes the machine.

Its a lot of money in CAD after conversion and shipping for a couple pins so if I could just do bushings and have the same performance. I'm cheap that way. lol

Totally understand. I'd totally go for the new stern bushings if you can get them, why not. I haven't scored under 400M since installing the halos on Aug 4. Still fine tuning adjustments after the change. Flipper strength is now down to 215 whereas they were 235 before the change. All difficulty adjustments are still at stock, the way I've been playing it for the past year. Prob going to up some difficulty settings now.

Eddies, about to climb in to diagnose an issue I’m experiencing with the pharaoh target that seems to get “stuck” at times during play.

BLUF: I think 1+ of either the outer, inner or center targets are “sticking” together causing the switch to register a hit. The leaf springs look evenly gapped. Anyone experience this and find a remedy?

I’ll get the “gong” repeatedly with the occasional “bullseye” or “great shot” though the ball hasn’t struck the target. Sometimes, at the start of a game, I’ll get the gong removing the option to select a song. In game, I can stop the repeating gongs by hitting the target again. I’ve not found a “loose” switch during the active test palm to PF technique. Leaf switch gaps look fine and can’t see anything obvious. Seeking advice to narrow my search. Thanks!

Node 9, connector CN12 has the switch leads for that mech. The fact that the problem is intermittent and you've already done a vibration test makes it a pain to track down.

Since you've done the vibration test and that was fine, you could try removing CN12 pins 3 (Bulls Eye), 4 (inner ring), and 5 (outer ring) one at a time, playing while each is removed and see if, for example, you still get bulls eye hits with the bulls eye lead removed, which would indicate an intermittent short somewhere.

Thanks @pinmonk, solid recommendation and a bit above my experience level. I widened the gap between the bullseye leaf springs and after 10 games, the target only gongs when it’s suppose to. Should it come back, I’ll try your recommendations. Much appreciated!

Ah, I thought you had said the blades on the switch were gapped enough. If adding more gap solved it, sounds like you're golden!

Hey all, first post as a new pin owner. Recently I've been having issue with the skill shot and ball save timer getting trigger before the ball gets plunge. Likewise, It will tend to auto select a song as well. I'm assuming some switch is getting triggered on the playfield but I can't seem to find which one it could be. I haven't tried reinstalling a code because I don't want to mess with my high scores. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Take the glass off, put the game in switch test mode (accessible from the menu buttons inside the coin door - it's in the diagnostic section), close the coin door. Smack various places on the playfield firmly with your open palm or fist and watch the screen to see what switches are triggering. Fix those switches to be less sensitive.

If none are triggering, do you have a shooter lane protector? Sometimes if those are too high, it can't trigger the shooter lane switch firmly, making it intermittent causing this issue, too.

Question I thought I'd try changing out the flipper bushing since my lower left flipper was randomly sticking in the up position. I bought the v2 bushing which is supposed to be an upgraded version. Does anyone have one on hand? Because I measured the inside diameter of the new one vs the one I removed and they were the same. The new one did not come in a package or labeled so I'm not sure what the difference is supposed to be? Also the coil stop was fine so I didn't replace it.

What color are the bushings? The older style is kind of an off-white/tan color. The newer ones are bright white.

Could be nylon. shiny. But really the inside diameter is the same as an old one.
I wonder if any of this is subjective?

I'm printing a few now and have reduced the tollerence to 6.3 6.35 and 6.4.
I'll see if there is any difference.

I will say the ones I've made for my Whirlwind really seem to have made a difference. IMO

That one is the new glass infused nylon. You can tell by the white color. The older plain nylon are more yellow/tan colored. Also the ID is not the same at both ends on the new one, at least. Very slightly different.

I have checked all 8 of the ones I bought and they are all 6.5mm both ends. maybe some tool more accurate than that might pic of some other variance but really 6.5mm.
But the old ones from my IM were also 6.5mm so I'm not sure if there was any purpose to buying them.

Are you sure you have a gapbetween flipper bat and bushing? Used something to hold the gap between bat and playfield while you tightened it down?

#16286 34 days ago

The sticky bat just happened rando while playing, then continued to happen. There was no work done. But so far fingers crossed that I pulled it all apart and reasembled things seem good.
This bushing thing is just my anal retentive problem solving. Trying to figure out why there is a variance and if it really matters.
I've printed a few now with different ID.
I'm getting closer to one that will be perfect. I'd like to come within .05mm to allow for the variance of flipper bat bars.

Then see if there is a difference in power, aim etc.

You are 3d printing bushings? Unless you can print in nylon I don't see how they can be better. Even 3d printed nylon is not going to be as good as injection molded nylon..and then the new Stern bushings are even better than that!

They can be better because I can make them with a tighter tolerance than those supplied. And well So far my whirlwind has about 30+games in with 3d printed bushings with about a .05mm tolerance. I can now hit the side ramp a lot better and my other shots are better as well.

So I guess time will tell.

I can't see 3D printed bushings with the usual materials holding up if you play the machine any normal amount at all. PLA for sure is out. PETG probably is out (PETG HT is a maybe, but it's as expensive as Nylon), as is ABS. You'd need to print nylon or exotics like nGen, etc and even then I'm not sure. For a $2 part that works great injection molded, it's weird to waste time learning that general FDM isn't great for high impact items over time.

Here's a chart with the pros and cons of various 3D printed materials. For a bushing impact resistance is more important than tensile strength, and there are very few on this chart with all green or mostly green rating for impact resistance.

Well a couple things.
I'm retired, and enjoy the learning process of building, design and 3D printing.
next would be the fact that bushings take 0 impact.
And a $2 part cost $20 to ship in Canada.

And I guess last is the fact that I have 3 bushings installed in my WW now and all the shots are better than with purchased bushings?

The precisions ones are def sitting in a shopping cart ready to go, but $600USD is $850 before shipping, duty and cross border tax for my 3 pins. So I'll wait for a bit.

Thanks

Where do you think the energy goes when the ball hits the flipper bat and the coil pulls the plunger/crank to turn the flipper? Even injection molded nylon bushings, which are incredibly strong, break over time from this action.

??? I think the energy goes to the rubber stop?? I don't know? Where do you think it goes? Into a bushing sleeve? That allows for free rotation with a small amount of side force?. I don't know with 01mm of play even that force is trivial.
Lol I guess ill see?
And if anything I'm reinforcing precision flippers stance that the tight tolerance does improve flipper movement..

So my maiden is losing track of balls. And it’s not one switch or area that it happens.

Tonight it occurred

1) aces high hit the orb get an extra ball. Play for a while down to 2 balls. Mode ends. Drain another ball. Still going do sarcophagus lock and it doesn’t spit out another ball. Tilt on purpose, never comes back after tilt.

2) fear of the dark, ball 2 trooper lock. Doesn’t register. Does ball search sdtm. Then after ball lost says ball 2 lock. Thanks.

3) sarcophagus lock, sometimes doesn’t spit out another ball.

So 3 different situations where it’s getting confused of ball lock. Never had this happen on a pin before.

Suggestions?!
