Quoted from pinmister:Wow I have never seen such a tight staircase with someone trying to get a pinball machine down it. Looks like a tight(like a tiger) European spiral staircase. I understand now why you would have to take off the backbox. You still should not have to remove the playfield. If it were me I would try and temporarily remove a couple of the 2x4 safety pillars in middle instead of taking the machine apart? If the 2x4 are non structural it may work-hard to tell what is holding those stairs up(can frame in from below). -Good luck
We just made it down with the game an hour ago, it went fine, carried the cabinet and playfield separately. It was the right choice for sure as we had to angle the cabinet up way past 45 degrees to get around the central columns in the stairwell. The weight of the playfield would have made that quite an uncomfortable journey.
My takeaway is that one shouldn't be afraid to remove the playfield if the removed weight will make the move easier, it wasn't that big of a deal to me. Having it carried down separately by two people was way easier than leaving it in the cabinet ever would have been.
And yes indeed, these are some European style stairs, the house is built in 1968 so it's probably narrower than what would generally be built today.
