It isn't that hard to post unpopular music opinions here. Or popular ones. Before pinside, I had no idea so many bands I used to listen to decades ago were still popular. Or could make somebody so much money without doing anything new of substance in half a lifetime.

    #283 3 years ago
    Quoted from rolandthoms:

    the Cure suck live

Funny. Had a couple friends over the other day and I put this on just in regards to songs that had come to mind in regards to the pandemic.

    Unpopular music opinion?

Most music from prior to the 90s (70s and 80s mostly) is now outdated and should be put in a time capsule and buried for future generations to dig up. Or not.

    #290 3 years ago
    Quoted from electricsquirrel:

And I thought you were an old punker.

    #294 3 years ago

    Another unpopular music opinion-

I actually like The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Not enough to sit and listen to an entire LP all at once, but do enjoy their songs when they randomly come on.

    #301 3 years ago
    Quoted from TheLaw:

The only person that talks about being from Cali more than them!

True, but there aren't many of us that actually are.

The rest are just tourists that never took the return bus back to wherever they came from.

    #303 3 years ago
    Quoted from jaytrem:

Oddly enough none of the them are California natives.

    Then they are tourists too.

    #315 3 years ago

I saw the Clash two times in concert. And they were good.

    #319 3 years ago
    Quoted from motorbreth77:

Metallica S&M 1 and 2 are absolute garbage.

Did they get into the adult video business?

    #323 3 years ago
    Quoted from PismoArcade:

Soul Mining is my favorite The The album though

I've still got that on vinyl from upon release.

    #324 3 years ago

I'd rather listen to Magazine than Rush.

    #349 3 years ago

Joe Jackson Vs. Elvis Costello. Let the battle begin.

    #351 3 years ago
    Quoted from TheLaw:

I think that one song was enough to topple the mighty Elvis.

Elvis had a lot of unsung heros.

    #352 3 years ago

    Well, fuck.

    #375 3 years ago
    Quoted from nighttaco:

Steve Miller Band isn't that good, there, I said it.

Sure, but even well into his 50s, teenage girls loved him.

    #377 3 years ago

Guns N Roses and Led Zeppelin are relics from the past and should be left there.

    There, I said it.

Now tell me where I should go.

    #379 3 years ago
    Quoted from sunnRAT:

The Clash really isnt as great as people think they are.

Yes, because one of the head guys has been dead for almost 20 years now.

How the hell do you do a we are too poor to quit reunion tour without him?

    #380 3 years ago

A little love for Steve Miller.

Even though, at the time, we knew music was taking a turn for the worse. But, since it got worse when they started playing Don't Bring Me Down by ELO, it is what it is.

    #383 3 years ago

fireball2, my old friend and confidant. Who now wants an interview. What are we going to talk about? Quality control at the Jack Daniels factory?

    #384 3 years ago
    Quoted from rolandthoms:

But as a product of the 80s, why haven’t I connected with the Replacements. 3 songs to start with ?

Perhaps it wasn't meant for you.

    #388 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

I don't drink any liquor that ain't clear.

Well, if you are close to the source, I can dig that.

    download (resized).jpegdownload (resized).jpeg
    #390 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

Devo was a way better live band than Black Sabbath.

Best concert I ever saw was Devo.

Black Sabbath won out over The Ramones when they played together. Ramones got much better next time around.

    #393 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

Motley Crue's first record was the ONLY good one.

I never thought there was a debate on that.

    #396 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

I saw them on that same tour. This was the show I was at:

Sure, but did you eat shrooms and stop at Naugles on the way home? I didn't even know it but RobT was in the vicinity at the time.

    #399 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

Negatory. Lotsa weed and ate bbq burgers before, leftover snacks from my buddy's brother's party afters.

Need a time machine to go back and do it on shrooms. Made Genesis at the Greek quite an event too. But Genesis sucks doesn't it?

    #400 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

And a song about the color Red? Really?

Dude. If you only knew. Remember that 5 band Clarion car equalizer/ amplifier? Well, how else are you going to test it out? And don't say Slow Ride, as that was reserved for large home speakers.

    #403 3 years ago

Glad we're on the same page here. And how bad did the 80s suck?

    #404 3 years ago

Todd Rundgren didn't make the worst music I ever heard.

    #408 3 years ago
Quoted from fireball2:until 2020 came along...

    #410 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

    Jibber-jabbering is easier than typing.

Not much left to say that won't get me booted off pinside all over again.

Or, can whatever you say in one of these podcasts not be used against you?

    #412 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

That's exactly why we take it to the 'cast.

Until we run out of gas...

But seriously folks, I don't need any more enemies. It's like fighting the same battle from 40 years ago, but then it was with people my own age.

    #416 3 years ago

Jr. High was a blur. Except for maybe this.

    #428 3 years ago
    Quoted from rolandthoms:

Riding the school bus in the 80s as the lone “new wave kid” was no easy task (small, rural Canada)
Listening to Depeche, OMD and the like meant a salami sandwich hurled to the back of yer head
35 years later, the metalhead pinsiders still torment me....Iron Maiden pinball, Metallica pinball. (I actually had these games for a bit but just couldn’t )

I hear that! It's like the old battle revisited all over again. But, back then it was more than words that came between the new school and the old guard. I remember getting my hair cropped and some old rockers starting giving me shit.

On many occasions there were serious brawls between the two factions. Somewhere along the line they started to overlap, and the violence was down to a minimum

    #430 3 years ago

Historically speaking, The Jam was one of the most important and influential bands of the late 70s and early 80s.

    #431 3 years ago

Oh yeah, and I got to see em!

Don't know what is is about this song, but it helped save my from myself. Timing couldn't have been better.

    #455 3 years ago
    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Is there any other chainsaw music besides jackyl?

    Why yes, yes there is.

    #458 3 years ago
    Quoted from sunnRAT:

    Wendo O. the real deal.

But probably the worst concert I ever went to. The act was good, but except for that song, the music was almost unbearable.

    #462 3 years ago
    Quoted from sunnRAT:

Atleast you saw them! I missed out before my time but my time still good with what I got today.

Yeah, it was in 1980. I won the tickets off a local radio station. Got right front and center too. So close, I could touch her. But didn't want to get my fingers sawed off.

    #466 3 years ago
    Quoted from Azmodeus:

I like mylie Cyruss a lot.

I can admit it. She is becoming musically relevant in my opinion.

    Myley is a national treasure.

    #472 3 years ago
    Quoted from sunnRAT:

the great Donald Pleasance is host and totally blitzed.

I knew almost everybody did blow back then, but I had no idea...

    #481 3 years ago
    Quoted from jhanley:

Last two Sabbath tours were great. Great sound and Ozzy was funnier than hell. Me and my sons had a great time.

Glad you had a good time. I wouldn't care to see them again though. I'm totally over bands I listened to in Jr. High.

I'd rather see a more recent band that I haven't seen yet like Muse. I hear they put on one heck of a show.

    Quoted from Oscope:

Most people consider Peter Frampton a one hit wonder or flash in the pan for his ‘76 Live album that every high schooler played endlessly

Peter Frampton was better with Humble Pie.

    #486 3 years ago
    Quoted from Electrocute:

Peter Frampton’s worst decision was to team up with The Bee Gees in Sergeant Lonely Heart Club Band.

You just made "I'm In You" not sound so bad. God did some of the 70s suck.

    #488 3 years ago

Led Zeppelin died the day In Thru The Out Door was released. Or perhaps they were already dead.

Pink Floyd should have stopped at Animals.

AC/DC has been almost impossible to listen to since Bon Scott died.

Aerosmith had one good song on Draw The Line and everything they did after that sucks.

    #490 3 years ago

Iron Maiden without Paul Di' Anno sucks.

I think I'm getting in the spirit of things now.

    #492 3 years ago

Rush learned how to make money with The Spirit Of Radio, and lucky for them, there is and was almost zilch competition for that kind of dollar in Canada.

    #494 3 years ago

Molly Hatchet was just a poor man's Lynyrd Skynyrd.

    #495 3 years ago

Working for the Weekend has to be one of the worst songs ever.

    #496 3 years ago

Listening to Abba makes me want to go get my teeth drilled. Toto too.

    #498 3 years ago
    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

I cringe and rush to change the station everytime Brian Adams comes on the radio

This is how bad the 80s sucked, folks.

    #499 3 years ago

MTV is the worst thing to ever happen to music.

    #500 3 years ago

If I ever here Don't Bring Me Down by ELO again. I'm liable to blow my brains out.

    #502 3 years ago

    I didn't say I hate all ELO

    Edit- Deleted-yeah this sucks too.

    #503 3 years ago

Journey was better before Steve Perry joined up and I'd rather not listen to Triumph.

    #506 3 years ago

Weren't they some holier than thou heroin addicts?

Listening to them was like going to church when I didn't really want to.

    #508 3 years ago

You all have 5 minutes to come up with a song better than this one released the same month.

    #510 3 years ago

    Well, that woke me up!

    #513 3 years ago

When the Guns N Roses pinball machine came out in 1994, they were pretty much over by then.

    #514 3 years ago

When the Metallica pinball machine came out in 2013, they were way over by then.

    #517 3 years ago
    Quoted from Electrocute:

Does anyone really want to go to church?

Not any more than I want to listen to Creed.

    1 week later
    #536 3 years ago
    Quoted from Trogdor:

I never knew opinion was unpopular, but U2 rules!! Name another band that has had more hits over a career that lasted more then 10 years? 20?

Some just don't really care for bands that keep on churning out money making hits year after year. I pretty much gave up on U2 after the October album failed to meet the high standards delivered with their debut LP.

    #538 3 years ago
    Quoted from loneacer:

I'm still trying to figure out why a thread titled "unpopular" and "opinions" has so many down-voted posts...

This thread is a fun place to leave those opinions that might otherwise get you moderated and ejected in threads about the latest outdated and irrelevant band to get a new pinball machine. This place is loaded with those with plenty more to come.

Bands I don't listen to anymore and sure as hell don't want to own or play a new pinball game themed after them-

    All of them!

    #542 3 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Wow. We haven’t heard you say this before.
    Game changer !

Kinda like your pinball "bubble" responses.

Man, when and if it finally does pop, that too will be a major game changer.

    #550 3 years ago

"Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand." Sure, best music video of it's time. Those boys were the hottest thing since The Bay City Rollers.

And Jethro Tull was the best choice for the Grammy hard rock winner in 1989.

    #551 3 years ago

This is a perfect theme song for pinside.

    #553 3 years ago
    Quoted from midniight:

    Your favorite band sucks

So does yours and anybody else's here.

    #567 3 years ago
    Quoted from Hangernade:

Ramsey Lewis recorded the definitive version of "Dancing in the Street".
Negative. Van Halen has that honor.

Sorry, Martha and the Vandellas is the only correct answer.

    #586 3 years ago

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is far superior to the original by Nine Inch Nails. (Yes, I know everybody agrees, just thought I'd throw that out there).

    #588 3 years ago

To listen to the Doors you have come from the school that thinks a bass guitar is a not needed in a rock and roll band. Or the school that takes LSD before listening to it

That being said, Alabama Song is an all time classic.

    #590 3 years ago
    download (1) (resized).jpegdownload (1) (resized).jpeg
    #592 3 years ago

    Oh, don't ask why...

    #597 3 years ago
    Quoted from yaksplat:

I reject this. It's good, not better. It received more airtime because it was Johnny Cash.

Even Trent Reznor said Johnny Cash made the song his own in more or less words.

    #603 3 years ago
    Quoted from sunnRAT:

All the pinball dads yakking on about Led Zeppelin, makes me hate Led Zeppelin.

If you think you hate them now, just wait until you've played the game more than five times.

    #605 3 years ago
    Quoted from ThatOneDude:

Regardless of Reznor's words, the original is made of win. JC did an excellent job, but I'd still give the edge to NiN. Especially in concert.

Respectful of that opinion. I guess we can all agree it's a great song either way.

How bout Johnny's take on Soundgarden's Rusty Cage?

    #608 3 years ago
    Quoted from sunnRAT:

The owners wont even get 5 plays in before they decide to sell it for the next machine that gets announced with another relic theme.

Yeah, if they wait until 50 plays like some do, the playfield will blown out by then.

    #609 3 years ago
    Quoted from TheLaw:

I'll take any cover of a Sojndgarden song I've the actual band.

We've got Cash doing Personal Jesus too, if that more suits your fancy.

    #616 3 years ago
    Quoted from Electrocute:

    Is this guy even singing?

I turned that shit off or changed the station whenever that dude came. Bored in the USA however seemed to be popular with zombies at the time.

    #618 3 years ago
    Quoted from boscokid:

you think any of them are still alive today?

And performing from what I gather.

I saw the band U2 at the Hollywood Palladium in 1980 or 81 and they sure were proud of themselves.

    #626 3 years ago
    Quoted from lastlight:

God I'm even more unpopular I mistakenly said I jumped off the U2 bandwagon after Zooropa. I forgot about Pop I guess haha..

If you didn't quit after the first album, I don't know what to tell you.

    #631 3 years ago

Kings of Leon are kind of cool.

(was going to go with nobody gives a shit about Kiss, but thought I'd be merciful this time)

    #634 3 years ago

Opinion 3. Van Halen is just a glorified garage band from Pasadena.

    Too soon?

    #642 3 years ago
    Quoted from fireball2:

    "Kung Fu Fighting"
    "Theme from SWAT"

Now you've touched on two things I'd probably rather listen to than the next rock themed pinball machines.

    #653 3 years ago
    Quoted from TigerLaw:

The Offspring is one of the top punk rock / pop punk bands ever. Highly under appreciated band today that had a string of several great albums for about a decade.

    Garden Grove represent!

    Quoted from Hi-Fi:

The Foofighters make very bland and generic rock. I do like a few of their songs but all of their “Learning to..” songs actually make me mad.

They have always been a band that needs a real singer.

    #655 3 years ago
    Quoted from fnosm:

    ELO was nearly ELP

But without the half hour solos.

    #658 3 years ago
    Quoted from fnosm:

Only good eagle is Joe Walsh

Joe Walsh was better with The James Gang.

    #660 3 years ago
    Quoted from algrande:

best song Don Henley must die, by MoJo Nixon

First time I heard that 30 years ago, I was ROTFL. We had a radio station with a real sense of humor.

    #667 3 years ago

Some people paid hundreds of dollars over the already stupidly high prices the Eagles got on the

People that say there hasn't been any good music in years, and would you want a Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift pinball machine, don't want to admit that even in the 70s and 80s there were high grossing acts that they wouldn't want either.

Would you like a Madonna or Paula Abdul pinball machine instead? Or perhaps the Bee Gees?

    #671 3 years ago
    Quoted from lastlight:

omg everything you just listed off caused me to shudder. tho i gotta say... my daughter loves t-swift and she does have some pretty catchy tunes lol.

It's a common thing around here. People are always playing the Bieber and Swift card when it comes to modern music. Obviously, they don't get out much.

    #683 3 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

    It's magical!

If you like pictures of stuff from the 70s pulled from google it's the thread for you.

Lawn darts! Shitty chain restaurants that have been tits up for 30 years! Various earth-tone colored appliances.

    It's all there baby!

The inspiration came from that 80s thread which is oh so much better.

If only I had a time machine and could go back to the 80s, I could buy a brand new K car!

    #685 3 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

My parents had a 1981 Plymouth Horizon. It was the worst car we ever owned and it's not even close!

But will it get us to the Madonna concert?

    #687 3 years ago

Ah, the supreme 80s, back when our feet did the work. Even if you didn't live close, you walked because your car was a piece.

    #689 3 years ago
    Quoted from Electrocute:

Oh, and the best car from the ‘80’s would be the brown 1982 Toyota Celica with the 22r motor and sunroof!

    Great car!

But remember, the 80s were all about buying the new and improved American quality machines! 0% financing is here! Buying Japanese is pure sacrilege! Our cars are better!

Lee Iacocca wouldn't lie to me!

    #690 3 years ago
    Quoted from NY2Colorado:

    And don't give me Chicago....

I give you Chicago Transit Authority. Great outfit! Especially if you like to ride the bus.

    #709 3 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

    The Supreme 80s.
