    Quoted from John_I:

Back in the day, every male of our species had to pretend to like Journey, REO and/or Foreigner at one point or another to get laid.

    #702 3 years ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

To their credit didn’t they get Hotel California out of the way early?
When I saw them they played it 3rd! Ballsy move!

Dont remember... but Im sure to them its a "lets get that shit over with" thing

they have to be as sick of that song as everyone else.

The length of the show is what got me...everyone had to do their little solo hits spot on and on.

I was bored after a hour.

    #703 3 years ago
    Quoted from Elvishasleft:

My ex made me go see the Eagles a few years back... they were fantastic musically.
They were also boring as hell.
They "sound like the record" live which I find about as boring as can be.
I have already heard these songs 4000 times.. most people have the records whats the point of standing there doing note perfect versions of the songs?
And it was over 3 hours... shoot me.

I could tolerate 3 hours of Vivaldi, if he was still alive.

This is very true.. when I was in high school I was super quiet and never talked to anyone.

Got in a band and played some high school dances and other shows kids could come to... boom... got a girlfriend who looked like Debbie Gibson.

Didnt even have to say anything.. she came up to me after a show and basically said hi Im your new girlfriend.

Kansas put on a great show, so did Uriah Heap.
    Clapton was good, but forgettable.
Elton John was really good, until someone hit him in the head with a weed pipe.
Next year someone set off a Military tear gas canister and evacuated 23000 from the Greensboro Coliseum.
Dooby Brothers put on a good show but the 3rd time we were over it. Same with Ted Nugent.
Steppenwolf were phenomenal, though they went downhill quickly.
Deep Purple and J. Geils were really smoking. Blue Oyster Cult even did better with all Band Members playing lead guitar at once.
Lynard Skynard was like a loud album playing, perfect background music to get ripped.
(A few of the Concerts I attended 1972- 1985 in the Greensboro area).

I wasn't pretending. I loved them all. I also loved Air Supply, Winger, Dokken, Christopher Cross...I could go on and on. And don't get me started on the new wave stuff: Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, OMD, Depeche Mode, etc., etc. I figured by liking all different styles of music, I'd have a wider array of chicks to pick from.

    I still couldn't get laid.

    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

The Residents were my favorite bands to trip to. Saw them live in Vancouver around 96 or 97

Speaking of unpopular music opinions... Wow I haven’t thought about the Residents for eons. Those eyeball heads were a great costume.

I met Penn Gillette once and all I could think to ask him about was whether or not he was a member of the band (he just hung out with them).

I once knew a dude who was so big, he broke an 80s Chevy Citation. It was his sister's car. We were parked in an open lot that doubled as the parking lot of the skating rink. Lots of potholes. Anyway, dude sat on the hood and demanded his sister drive him across the lot. Hit a pothole and blew the transmission.

    Quoted from NY2Colorado:

There has never been a good name named after a state, city, or country.
And don't give me Chicago.... Any credit they deserve, was wiped away by 80s Peter Cetera....

Boston and Kansas are good. When Terry Kath died, so did Chicago.

Soul Train was better than MTV.

I once saw The Fixx live in New Orleans on the US President paddle wheel boat while cruising up and down the Mississippi river. It was surreal. Right in the middle of their MTV hayday, would've been around 1982-83.

I wonder how that came to pass. I guess one thing lead to another.

    Quoted from phil-lee:

    Clapton was good, but forgettable.

Depends on the tour and who his band is... in 2006 or so he had Derek Trucks and a great band (Steve Jordan on drums I think) doing allot of the Layla record.

That tour was not forgettable.. Im sure there is video of that tour on you tube.

I saw him a few times after and it was kinda meh, seems to me like he needs to be pushed by younger dudes or a cracking band otherwise he is phoning it in a bit.

It certainly did! I only lived in N.O for two years and in that time I saw all the following concerts. Probably more that I don't remember. What good times!

The Fixx, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Ozzy Osbourne(twice), Loverboy, Foreigner, Vandenburg, Blue Oyster Cult, The Neville Bros, George Thorogood and The Destroyers, Kansas, Survivor, Uriah Heap, Cheap Trick.

    Sick!

Was the Stones show at the Superdome?

Do you remember where you saw Ozzy?

I saw the Scorpions at the Mahalia Jackson theater lol

But REO was rad. Gimme some sweet-ass High Infidelity!

    Fortunately I can say

    no way
    It is straight up schlock

You had a nice rhyme going until the last line, and that's where I lost respect for you. Not sure if it was the rhyme or the sentiment.

Well the only word that rhymes is pejorative so I had to come up with something else.

And really schlock is too kind. That album is awful of the worst kind.
I had the pleasure of meeting those gentlemen (Gary & Kevin) before that album came out.
And by gentlemen I mean douche bags.

I liked your band-slam poetry lol. My mom used to fucking sing and dance to that album which was terrible to hear and watch. And I still love cranking that album in the car (windows rolled up to avoid arrest).

Aw... my sister loved that record.

Not my thing overall but the guitar playing is good for that kind of music.

I think that guy never did another thing and died from alcoholism after getting booted from the band.

Yeah, the Stones were at the Superdome. It was Neville Bros, George Thorogood, then the Stones.
Ozzy was at some outdoor show with La Roux, Foreigner and Loverboy.
The other Ozzy show was an outdoor show in Baton Rouge with Vandenburg and BOC.

I dug through my old ticket stubs. Two more I forgot about. Blackfoot with Billy Thorpe at The Warehouse, and Kiss with Zebra at the Superdome.
Also in Biloxi, Def Lep with Krokus and Jon Butcher Axis.

Cool man! I lived in Hoover(Riverchase) for several years. Watched them build the Galleria. Hardly any shows worth seeing come here any more. I did see Joe Bonamassa a couple times here over the last few years. Saw Robert Plant with Allison Krause like 10 years ago. Most of the stuff that comes through here now is garbage.

oddly enough someone gave me a ticket to see Scorpions on their last tour..

was pretty good considering the singer looks like he cant walk anymore.

Did they? it was at a casino and I didnt have to drive so pretty sure I had a few too many, dont remember that bit.

The singer was like hobbling around and shit, can still sing though.

I think Queensrche or whatever the fuck their name opened without the original singer which was pretty lame.

One of those bands where the singer is pretty much the sound of the band, just some dude doesnt really cut it.

    #736 3 years ago

Wow that Robert Plant and Black Crowes ticket stub.... seems like a great show.

My older Brother used to have hanging up, a poster, ticket stub, drum stick and signature from Mott The Hoople on Broadway in a small theater. The opening band was ..... Queen. it was their first US tour and he saw them.

    #737 3 years ago
    Quoted from finman2000:

I saw a show during the same tour. The Cult was excellent.

July 7th 1989 Popular Creek Theater
Myself and five friends went to see the Cult open up for Metallica. We were there mainly to see the Cult and seeing Metallica was just a bonus, but none of us at that time knew any Metallica songs except for One.
We arrived more than early enough to see the Cult open up and stood there on the lawn waiting & waiting & waiting. Then the stage finally went dark, and to our surprise we start hearing Metallica play. My friend yells out, where the heck is The Cult? The four gentlemen in front of us, (all with matching chain wallets), turned around and said in unison “We booed those F$#@ off stage after their first song”.
I have been waiting 30 years to tell that story to someone. To this day, whenever I hear from one of those friends, this is always a great laugh for us to share. Thanks to those four guys, we never forgot that night.

I was at that show as well. What I remember is the crowd screaming "F**k the Cult!" when they played. Seemed like they played the usual five or six songs for an opening act. The Metallic set was great. Probably my favorite Metallica concert to date.

Seeing the Cult as the main act was a totally different experience. They were great and the fans loved it.

What a fucking waste. That was on the tour of their Sonic Temple CD too, their best album. This is one of the reasons why I don't go to concerts anymore due to the bigotry and close minded shits in the audience.

A couple of my friends went to a Tom Petty concert where the Replacements opened. A similar event happened where they were booed, and left the stage early. What a bunch of assholes (the audience, not the band).

I saw the Hooters open for the Dixie Dregs at the Philadelphia zoo. What a strange mix of people in that crowd. No problems, though.

haha... I was in a band just like that.

We did lots of opening slots for bigger bands on the east coast and if we were given a hard time we would do our best to trainwreck it worse and annoy the audience.

We did one show where we just played Crazy Train over and over. Thank you thank you... now here again is Crazy Train this time half speed.

    Glad I dont drink anymore..

I have some friends who were in a 1990s band called The Bogmen, and they were hoping to bust out of the NYC scene. They got on the bill for the KISS reunion tour as openers.

Well, turns out KISS fans really only want to hear KISS, so the first night, they were booed mercilessly between songs. Like savagely.

So they made a decision for night #2: Play the entire set fast, with no breaks, so the crowd couldn't boo them!

It did work, but of course when they wrapped up their 30 minutes or so the crowd exploded in an orgy of booing, the likes of which has never happened!

THey didn't last very long on that tour sadly.

My other savage booing story would be when I saw AC/DC at a special club show in 2003 at Roseland Ballroom; they weren't on tour, it was one-off industry show to celebrate the RNR HOF and also a new round of AC/DC reissues (in fact that's how I got the tickets - by buying the whole reissue set at a downtown record store, not bad for 50 bucks!). THe tickets made a big deal about late entry: as in, we won't let you in if you don't get there by 7pm. Probably bullshit, but the place was PACKED at 7pm. I guess Sony/Epic wanted to force us to see the opening act, some young kids in a kind of Rage Against the Machine knockoff called Vendetta Red or Red Vendetta or something.

Needless to say it didn't go so well! This crowd wanted to see some AC/DC, not whatever this was. THe booing started early, but it being a club show, it started getting ugly, with the singer picking and audience picking fights with each other, throwing the bird, etc. A few beer bottles flew. I remember the singer awkwardly saying "Shut up you old fucks! I mean...AC/DC is old, but they are cool! You guys are old fags!!!"

To their credit they made it through the set, but that was the last I ever heard of Vendetta Red Vendetta.

    AC/DC was fucking amazing!!!

    LOL

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendetta_Red

After opening for AC/DC at the New York Roseland Ballroom,[5][6] singer Zach Davidson said that the fans during the show were acting "blatantly homophobic":

"It was scary how blatantly homophobic a lot of that crowd is. AC/DC's music, whether you like it or not, is not socially conscious. You wanna drink, fuck, and smoke weed when you listen to AC/DC... and eat steak. Fuckin' American dream. I can handle anything, but I didn't really like it when, before you play a fucking note, the minute you go onstage, people are yelling 'Faggot!' That, of course, made me have to go down there and start kissing boys."[5][8]

    LMAO!

Ok I guess the kid was trying to make a point when he called us all old fags, but it was lost on this crowd. He also certainly didn't kiss any boys he looked terrified up there and just wanted to get through the set.

For the record I wasn't booing or throwing anything, just taking it all in. The crowd wasnt being too reasonable, but it was just a dumb position the record company put these kids in.

We saw Bob Mould a few years ago.
Nobody seemed to have a problem with the gay thing.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

LOL...The Bogmen. I thought I was the only one who owns a couple of their CDs.

I heard "Suddenly" on the radio and really liked it. The lead singer is over the top but overall they were a pretty good band.

Gonna have to dig through my stuff and give them another spin.

I dont know if this is unpopular or what. Im just confused... what is up with John Legend?

I feel like I see this guy on tv or internet daily even though his music is piano based schlock and cheez as far as I can tell.

Pretty generic and bland and its not like he's a great singer... plus dude looks like a bigger version of Webster from the 80s.

people like this shit? I realize he has ten grammys probably but who likes this?
