    Eric Clapton is overrated

I'd exchange Clapton to get SRV back.

If you think you hate them now, just wait until you've played the game more than five times.

    Quoted from lastlight:

I don't think a band has been bigger and then hated more. It likely doesn't help that Bono is... the way he is lol.
I was a diehard fan until they stopped innovating. Admitting that these days certainly qualifies as unpopular lol. Zooropa was the last album I was into. After that they gave up in my opinion. Saw their popmart tour twice and was thankful but I really wish I'd been born sooner to have seen ZooTV.

Zooropa is a fantastic album, but it didn't have any traction. Pop is good as well, after that I lost touch with them. I did see them on the Popmart tour, was my only time seeing them and they did look like they were going through the motions a bit, but it was still a great show.

    Quoted from ThatOneDude:

Regardless of Reznor's words, the original is made of win. JC did an excellent job, but I'd still give the edge to NiN. Especially in concert.

Respectful of that opinion. I guess we can all agree it's a great song either way.

How bout Johnny's take on Soundgarden's Rusty Cage?

    Quoted from o-din:

The owners wont even get 5 plays in before they decide to sell it for the next machine that gets announced with another relic theme.

    #607 3 years ago

I'll take any cover of a Sojndgarden song I've the actual band.

Yeah, if they wait until 50 plays like some do, the playfield will blown out by then.

We've got Cash doing Personal Jesus too, if that more suits your fancy.

Yeah, we all remember the album.

    Quoted from o-din:

Hmm. Pretty much the same feeling there. Love them both, but I was caught up on Badmotorfinger for a bit when it came out.
I caught Soundgarden and NiN a few years back on tour together in Mountain View, and it was the best concert I've been to. Both bands were on point, and they hit every single favorite of mine. Neither is absolutely my favorite band, but that show was something else....

I will always be torn on U2 - loved them in the 80s and seeing them on Joshua Tree tour (Hampton Roads) was a lifetime concert highlight - seeing them in 2018 (WF Philly) was a huge let down. Not worth the time or the money and I honestly don't know who changed more, them or me.

    Quoted from o-din:

Sorry, Martha and the Vandellas is the only correct answer.

Loved their video for Nowhere to Run. Shot on a Ford production line, imagine those dudes spraying paint in 1965 with no respirators, you think any of them are still alive today?

While an avid admirer of your wit, I was really thinking of the 30yo black dudes that were painting 40+ hours a week on that assembly line.

    #621 3 years ago
    Quoted from Elvishasleft:

    And so? Its his guitar.

Also Music Man necks are notorious for warping and having other neck and neck pocket issues over time which would explain that complaint.

Maybe that attention to detail is how you become a world famous musician that has companies asking you to endorse their products and make a signature model instead of being someone working in the factory making them?

Yer killing me, Cowboy. He was whiny, and even Dudley, the guitar designer who helped save the whole enterprise, got tired of it... and he worked with Prince! Albert Lee was picky without being whiny, so was Lukather, and Tony Levin, and almost everyone else that came through.

Re: Someone working in the factory... At that time the "factory" was maybe 6 dudes. I did EVERYTHING from raw wood all the way up to sanding for finish. And our SLO made necks most certainly did not warp or have other issues AT ALL. That's a recent thing. I'm talking about 35 years ago.

    Epic

    #624 3 years ago

I saw the band U2 at the Hollywood Palladium in 1980 or 81 and they sure were proud of themselves.

    #625 3 years ago

God I'm even more unpopular I mistakenly said I jumped off the U2 bandwagon after Zooropa. I forgot about Pop I guess haha. I still really enjoyed at least half of that album. They were still trying to be creative. It really all boils down to age sometimes. When Achtung Baby came out I was a moody as fuck teenager and everything was dramatic and that was the soundtrack to it all (for me). I could worry about music instead of raising a family haha. Achtung Baby is in fact the best album of all time but everyone here already knows that.

    Unpopular U2 Opinion...

Achtung Baby is a fucking classic album. The ZooTV tour that year was amazing. Openers were Sugarcubes and Public Enemy.

Also, during the "All You Can Leave Behind" tour of 2000, my daughter and I went to see them in L.A.. When we walked through the security checkpoint, everything lit up and an alarm sounded. I bought my tix through a scalper and thought I was done for. A guy walks up to us and says, "follow me". He escorts us to the front of the stage and we ended up watching the concert (along with Kings of Leon) with out elbows on the stage. Turns out it was a promotional thing. We were gobsmacked for the following three hours.

...and yes, Bono is a unsufferable douchebag. Two amazing shows, though.

    #628 3 years ago
    Quoted from PismoArcade:

    (along with Kings of Leon)

Sorry Cowboy, Kings of Leon didn't even have a band together until 2002, first record to tour on was 2003. Musta been a different tour.
At first I thought: THAT'S why they started sounding more and more like lame U2.
KoL's first record is the essence of rawk! after #3 it was all u2 kinda moan and drone.
Still, his voice... I could listen to him mumblesing the phone book.

Achtung doesn't have one bad song on it. If anything negative can be said, the guitar echo he uses is a bit repeated in multiple songs, but REM did the same thing on Monster. I hear you about age...both Achtung and Zooropa caught me at a wonderful time. By the time Pop came out, I was out of college and it wasn't the same. Still while Pop isn't as strong, "Gone" is one of my favorite songs by them.

Unpopular Opinion: The Van Halen demos recorded by Gene Simmons is the only good material they ever recorded.

    #631 3 years ago

Kings of Leon are kind of cool.

(was going to go with nobody gives a shit about Kiss, but thought I'd be merciful this time)

    #632 3 years ago

Unpopular opinion part 2: Van Halen's demos recorded by Gene Simmons is the only good thing any member of Kiss has ever done as well.

Opinion 3. Van Halen is just a glorified garage band from Pasadena.

"Reverend" from their last album is pretty epic IMO.

I was the biggest KoL fan on the planet when that first record record came out. We still do "Red Morning Light" on band night now and then.

Actually David Lee would prolly agree with you. His autobio is a must read. Whatever you think of DLR, he does what makes him happy with no apologies. One of the qualifications of being his bodyguard/assistant was the ability to rollerskate.

When Howard Stern jumped from terrestrial radio to satellite, a few major markets thought DLR would be the perfect replacement and threw a bunch of money at him.

One of my all time favorite radio train wrecks.

They prolly didn't let him smoke Mother Herb on the radio, and without that he's Doctor Mile a Minute. He has a great section about forgetting lyrics all the time and just shoobopshowapadoo-ing his way through.

Let's get back to unpopular opinions...
    I like Disco.
"You Sexy Thing" is a killer song.
"Tell Me Something Good" is a killer song. Rufus and Chaka Khan rocked.
"Upside Down" is a killer song. Go Disco Diana!
    "Funkytown"
    "Kung Fu Fighting"
    "Theme from SWAT"
The list goes on and on...

Now you've touched on two things I'd probably rather listen to than the next rock themed pinball machines.

Don’t you mean Ska is just Reggae played double time...
    Which came first.

From 1979-1982, I was the DJ at the dance club Station 51 in SLO on Broad street. Proudly wore my polyester suit, gold chain and coke spoon.

You Sexy Thing was good, but my favorite Hot Chocolate songs are "Emma", "Every 1's a Winner" and "Confetti Day"

Rufus & Chaka Khan did indeed rock..."Stay" is one of my all time favorite songs, although "Do You Love What You Feel" got the dance floor jumpin'.

    #645 3 years ago

My unpopular music opinion: The Offspring is one of the top punk rock / pop punk bands ever. Highly under appreciated band today that had a string of several great albums for about a decade.

Upside Down is a pretty good tune, same with Kung Fu.

Funkytown needs to die and have all evidence of it's existed wiped off the planet.

Regardless, no one did Disco better than the Bee Gees. They almost made it an art form.

Chet Atkins was the greatest guitarist of all time. "Mr. Guitar" Title doesn't come easy.
