I first did business with Big Al in 1985. I traded a Xenon and 200.00 For a Centaur. Al and his wife delivered it to my work at Viking Village in St. Paul. I was 15 at the time.
Al is one of the main reasons pinball is as popular as it is in the Midwest area now. Alot of collectors here in the midwest got started via AL. He would always come in to the operators in the Twin Cities and buy their old non working/dirty games. This process repeated itself probably hundreds of times in the 80's to the 2010's. This gave operators confidence to buy more pinball machines as they knew when the games were rotated on the route they could count on Al to give them a fair price for them. If Al was not around to buy all of those games operators would not have purchased as much as they did back in the day. The company I worked for an operator in the 90's which bought like 35+ Addams Familys and after a few years Al would buy them. The operator would then invest in newer games (T Zone, TOM etc) and the cycle would continue. Locations always wanted something fresh. Even good titles would get stale after a while. Locations were always demanding wanting the newest game regardless if it was good or not.
If you see Al or visit him its good to say thanks for what he has done for pinball in Minnesota and beyond.

Quoted from skink91:

I agree. I think both Al and Aaron are awesome.

#13305 4 years ago

Surprising move. I would imagine going to quarters would increase likelyhood of breakins in the games.
Maybe they had issues with other tokens being used in their place?

Quoted from cavalier88z24:

yes. this guy tries to beat NHL high score. Seldon got 6 billion on Jurassic park and is trying to beat it. so he screws with the legs. lowers them in the back and jacks up in the front. The bubble level is off the chart. but what pisses me off is i walk up to the game not suspecting it. Put a dollar in it and hit play. then im like WTF. you cant turn it off or lose the game?. so you try to level it with it playing. lol. loss the credit anyway. If i see this guy im going to say something. This guy owes me money.

What is the value of a Harlem Globetrotters in very fine condition? Found one out there and the owner who isn't really into pins has no idea of its worth and neither do I.

I would say 400 to 900 depending on cosmetics. I would assume boards need attention and rubber. flippers targets need work. If well cared for and clean low use high end would suffice. I maybe way ofd the way prices are though.

I sold some pins to buy a car as well. Plenty of car people in the pinball hobby.

Big Al from Pinball Warehouse was smart as he attended car shows constantly and promoted his business as well at the same time. I recall in the 80,s he'd bring games to various car shows and have them in his booth along with Jukeboxes.

so it was a kit only? :/ no wonder you don't see many around.

I had like 6 of those on location in early to mid nineties. You could buy them from ops for maybe 200 dollars. They would pay for themselves in a month. They did well in laundromats and pizza places. Great game.

Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

Thanks for the tip. I will take a look. I saw a VOD of an amazing seminar from CGC last Expo. The dude went into great detail about how the mechs in CCr were re-engineered for durability. He had this legit Powerpoint going, with copious diagrams, and it really sold me - not on the game, but on the ethos of the company. To be honest, my interest in Pulp Fiction has much to do with that, as I get the impression that Doug Douba is more focused on quality than other company heads. Unfortunately, watching gameplay of PF from TPF has tempered my interest in the game a bit, but I will be excited to see/try LTG's when it lands at his place soon.

Chicago gaming build quality is really good and the remakes are great. I could tell a lag on MM early remake but games since have been spot on.

After speaking with Dan the last couple days I can say we are on a good standing.
Mistakes happen and sometimes when you hire a web design company they just want to do it the easy way and be done with it like other professions sometimes do. This appears the case here.
I look forward to visiting Luke and Dan's new place in the near future! I hope to play in the end of year tournament as well if timing allows.I forgot how much I enjoyed playing in them. Happy Flipping! JR
