Anyone here get the Game Show??

#6252 9 years ago

How do the launch parties work up there?

What is the play structure? prizes? Second competition on other games?
IFPA or not?

etc...

#6253 9 years ago

Anyone interested in some projects? I am out of time and out of space. 1800.00 takes them all..

1.I have a Black Hole that fires up if I play with the relays. Might need some small things done to be finished. Like bumper tops put on etc..but all parts are there. All displays are good etc..
2. Gorgar played fine just would not eject ball after draining. Head is all black and could use some work to get 100%. Playfield is pretty nice. Backglass is fine but I would replace it if I kept it. Someone put led's in the backglass .
3. Star Trek 25th Anniversary. Needs driver board and translight and a few other small things. It has been a while since I worked on it. I remember ordering most of the small things needed. Has new power supply board. Head is all Black and is missing artwork. Was in a building and had slight smoke damage. The playfield will need to be torn down and cleaned it is just a light haze.

I might be able to get pic's, but to tell you the truth my garage is one foot walkway right now. If you pm me your email I'll try to get pic's sometime today.

I will be listing some of my other machines (shopped working) soon, but I want these gone first...

Curious if anybody is randomly headed to Omaha and back and wants to haul a pin back for me, for a price

I am headed to CO and back from Madison. Omaha is on the way and I have room for a pin.

Message me if in need and this would suit you.

I'll check with my boss and see if we have a run going down there. I never know from day to day where I'll be going.

We do it a little differently. Standard IFPA format is everyone to play 1 game and top 4 playoff...that's no fun IMHO. I don't want someone to drive a long way, wait to play, not have the best game of their life and then go home. I can understand why some places would work that way if they only have 1 machine or a tight timeline, but that's not really a party IMHO.

What we have done for the last 3 parties is the op has secured 2 pinball machines of the launch party title. For Walking Dead we actually had 3 TWD pins...one was on free open play the entire night in addition to several other games on free play as well. Everyone gets 2 qualifying games, 1 on each machine. Only your best score of the two is counted towards qualifying. Top 16 players qualify and play off in groups of 4 which are seeded by qualifying scores. Top qualifier in the group goes last, next top qualifier goes 3rd...etc. Each round the bottom two scores in each group are knocked out. The finals are played in a group of 4. This way everyone gets to play at least twice as many games as they would, but many will play 3 or 4 times more games with allowing the top 16 qualifiers.

We have really gone out and got a lot of prizes too so that the majority of people go home with something. We had 51 people at the TWD launch party and we had over 40 prizes that people could win in random draws. Some big stuff too like an autographed Vikings football, Laseriffic TWD topper, gift certificates and more. That was in addition to the Stern stuff that they send like the trophy, translite and shirts which are given out of the final four. The final four also gets the cash payout from the tournament entry fee money. The op always does custom launch party t-shirts that are given away to the first 20 or so people and then available for sale after that. Our op here really goes way above and beyond, we are lucky to have him.

We haven't really done a side tournament before at these, because it is so much work coordinating and keeping people organized for the main event. We might try one in the future though. All our launch parties are for WPPR points and I am excited to see how the points shake out. In the past with 51 people and the winner needing to play 5 games to win but only getting 11 points out of it, that's tough.

http://www.ifpapinball.com/view_tournament.php?t=407#results

I think the format we landed on has really worked well for everyone. This way, people get a lot more opportunities to play, have fun and win something. Our attendance has increased for each party from 43 for Metallica, to 46 for Star Trek to 51 for Walking Dead. Should be interesting to see how it goes for Wrestlemania.

#6260 9 years ago

That being said, I just plan on telling people to "Snap into a Slim Jim!" yelling "Ohhhhh Yeah!!!!" a lot and throwing chairs.

Then I will weep into my beer and pretend to be haunted by the ghost of Miss Elizabeth.

I'd agree with John, I think the format they've come up with is really fun.

I'll take the Black Hole and you can have the other two....

#6266 9 years ago

Thanks for the info on launch party Les! Sounds like you guys really have it all fine tuned and a great time!

Something to aspire to for our location. First step would be biting the bullet and buying a brand new game I suppose...

Do the IFPA points for launch parties change with the new system?

I have had three Black Holes..... Now that I have Haunted House, it would be a pretty fun pair to have next to each other...

It's all good.... Not a bad price for the trio... Good luck Bob!

Yes, before all launch parties in a year were part of the same point pool. Now, all the points will be based on number of games played and strength of field (number and quality of players) and they will be unique to each launch party. If Stern released 4 games this year and we had 4 parties, they could all be potentially worth maximum points instead of the points being divided up among them all.

#6270 9 years ago

Thanks,

Hopefully I'll see you guys at the tournament. I'm going to try and make it.

#6271 9 years ago

Les, for launch parties does IFPA waive the month advanced notice thing for an event?

It seems like often nobody knows exactly when the new games are going to show up and the launch parties are pretty much as soon at the game gets there, correct?

I like your style of 2 plays for qualifying, 16 advance to playoffs and 4 pack playoffs!

Good prices on the trio Bob. Interested to hear what else is going after you sell these. You are close and have a few I would like to have. I also would love to come out and just see/play ratrace!

#6273 9 years ago

Still looking for a $1500 ish DMD pin in okay/good shape. Maybe even two....

#6274 9 years ago

I went to pinball HOF yesterday. Got to play pinball circus and the em, Challenger. Good times.

#6275 9 years ago
Quoted from Whysnow:

Get in touch with the IFPA/WPPR about running them.

When they with Stern first started the launch parties you had to have three machines. So I never tried doing them.

Since then rules have changed. So contact them to see what you can do to run one.

When I used to get a new game I'd have it on free play, a tournament, and Famous Dave's ribs. But attendance kept dropping off on those so I quit doing them.

So you have a lot to consider for your location.

If you are one of the official launch party cities, Stern adds your location and date to the flyer and they help promote it. They usually have a suggested date that they know all the initial games will have been delivered by, but you can choose your date within reason of the other dates. As long as the dates are relatively close, it has never been an issue for us. We have never had a problem with the 30 day rule either. For instance, we did the TWD 2 weeks later than we really wanted to last year because of Expo and the Pinball Circus so we didn't interfere with those events.

Anyone know who is selling these in Minneapolis area?

minneapolis.craigslist.org link

I'd be interested in the WCS if it's in nice shape and the price is a tad lower, not sure what the going rate is for one of these.

#6278 9 years ago

Dkazz those look kinda like the ones from Goony golf, but I'm not 100% sure. If they are I believe pinballnut3 owns those.

Paid that price for mine a year and a half ago. Mine is in great shape. They seem to be a bit higher lately as I've seen many from 2400-2800. No idea if they are selling for those prices though. Will probably list mine for $4000 at MGC just to piss off the price police.

LOL, kris was just telling me how he'd never let TAF go.

LOL

Yeah I hear ya Ken.

Looks like I have a couple of people who have this game and are looking to sell. Not a real fan of the theme (soccer), but the game itself is so much fun. My son and I played it (him in the tournament at MGC two years ago) and it is a blast to play. Looking for something new as we are just about done totally going through our TZ - it's nice having a "little helper" who is as interested in pinball as I am. Although he's a better player than me, and I'm ok with that.

Now I might need to bring a bigger truck for my trip down to Milwaukee the end of the month.

I thought this was the Minnesota-Wisconsin thread! I think your lost charlie.

I may end up keeping it. I will definitely buy another in a couple years if it sells.
Just looking to shake up a couple things, need some cash to play with. I would prefer to sell other games I have. But I know if addams sells there will always be another.

OK, The story you have all been waiting for, the $200 Centaur. A friend of mine got it and I moved it to WI where all Centaurs belong. Picked it up last night after work. I am not going to name the buyer or the final price because that's not my business to spread around.

The lady got over 100 emails right away so she instantly knew that she had made a mistake. It was her ex-husband's game and she assured me that it was hers to sell now. After the emails started rolling in so fast her first reaction was to kill the ad and list it on ebay. She did get a number of people who told her right away that her price was too low and they would pay closer to what it was worth so she decided to contact some of them.

She ended up holding her own little auction and the price ended where it did. She felt bad about the way things went but she also wasn't going to leave that kind of money on the table after she learned of her mistake.

The game has a very average cabinet, nicer than average playfield and backglass. There is some wear through the paint in places. Boards are all present and haven't been tested yet. No legs, no keys. I drilled the coin door lock in hopes of finding a key for the backbox. No luck but I did learn that her ex had ok taste in porn with the exception of being into DP. I turned those over to her and her new husband or boyfriend.

I asked her how many of the emails were people assuming they could come get the game for $200 and she said about 90. Some got nasty even after the ad was pulled. She apologizes to the pinball community for stirring things up. I asked her how many people used the phrase, "CASH IN HAND". She smiled and said quite a few, also some pretty much demanding her address so they could come and get it.

Game is going to a good home. That's it.

#6287 9 years ago

I don't feel any better about it. I emailed so soon after it came up, and I'm 2 miles from where it was located. Would like a shot at it if it comes up for sale.. crap luck as always.

Sorry, just to be clear I am not looking to change anyone's opinion of her or the way it was handled. Just telling the story and confirming it was real.

Oh, i know. Just saying. Tough luck for a lot of people. She had no idea I'm sure. Just hate when something this close gets away...

Happy to see that Centaur was real and went to a good home. Thanks for sharing Rusty.

#6293 9 years ago

Glad it went to a good home, and glad the owner got something more reasonable money wise.
The second she posted it for $200 the table probably warned her. "Bad move, human."

When she found out it was worth more then she thought I wonder if she realized that her x wasn't such a dumb ass after all.
