I'll also be looking for one extra party ticket. I'm only able to bring one game, but need a ticket for the wife. Happy to help out (or purchase one)

#152 7 years ago
Quoted from epthegeek:

I'm just going to throw this out there, even though it's not necessarily on topic.
I know the people who run the MilCog gaming group that brings the huge fleet of board games to the show each year that people can check out and play. Since they're not bringing machines, they don't get in to the after party. If anybody is going to have extras they wouldn't mind donating, or if I can help somebody with transport or something to earn a couple -- It'd be fun to get them access at least once.
Maybe I just need to hook up with Troy and help him unload

IF Dan is fine with this, i can probably help. Are you talking about the people that bring like 200 board games that are right by the hotel check in area, if so, then those people deserve it. They bring in a lot of stuff and always have people out there playing, so they are a group that contributes alot to the show

I think the lobby area is another group - the MilCog group brings the massive wall of games in the tent - like the whole north end.

aren't those guys vendors? or are they actually bringing games to the show for public use?

That whole wall is a lending library. The pair in the second picture own it, and they take it to shows (many shows) to promote board gaming. You can check out a game to try, and play it on the tables in the tent.

It started as a "meetup" group back in the olden-days.

Don't you think Dwight should get into the party too? Or should he start bringing a white wood or something.

What's fun is, they wanted the picture because he designed that game she's holding. I'm not sure they even care about his pinball connection.

he just needs to finish GoT and GB polish then he can have my spare wristband.

Sorry guys. I have been really bad this year. In past years, I got back to you in 24 hours. This year I have not been on top of things.

There will be an email going out this week. Sorry about the delay everyone!

At the current rate of work (zero) I'm not going to have Ironman HD any farther a long by MGC than it was at Expo. Should I still bring that?

I have to re-neg on this. I have a kid-school-thing conflict that I didn't realize was the same weekend, so I won't be able to make saturday at all, and its not stable enough to run without me there. Unfortunately.

any chance you can sell/ trade the kid of by then so that there is no conflict?

j/k, sorry to hear that, but hopefully you can make it that night for the afterparty, see you there

My Black Knight isn't quite done yet, but I think I might bring it anyway, just to get some burn time on the rebuild. My only other two pins are Pinbot and KISS, which are always WELL represented. No need to bring those.

I'm helping Dan with the Saturday night VIP fundraising silent auction. I gotta check here to see if that thread has been started yet.

MGC always seems to sneak up on us every year. I'm going to try and stay ahead of things this year.

MGC wouldn't be complete without a broken BK. No offense to person bringing one this year.

#176 7 years ago

Kiss. Watched Rodger sharp on one a few years back.

Your willing to take the Black knight challenge!!!!!
Let see if you can get %90 up time. The most I have seen in 7 years was up to 11:00 on Saturday. But that did take two BKs side by side.

Sorry if this was posted, but have preorder tickets gone on sale?
Thanks!

Quoted from chad:

Yeah, a long time ago! Especially if you are looking for Friday night VIG or the Friday night Brewers game please order soon as they are close to sold out. Due to both the limited nature of both of these events, these are hard ticketed even if you are bringing something to share with everyone. If you are bringing multiple games and would otherwise be claiming show cash, a few people have spoken with me about using that and that works for me, but please contact me if that is the case.

Show tickets for Saturday and Sunday do not sell out, but I'm constantly playing with making our expenses and income meet, so if you can purchase earlier it specifically helps us do more cool stuff right away this year. We have a lot of different possibilities in the pipeline, so anything can help.

If you are bringing a game, if you'd like to get a Limited Edition shirt, you can order one without purchasing a ticket. The shirt pre-order closes about three weeks from now, and we only print up the amount that are pre-ordered. We do expect a different shirt for the actual show this year too.

Hope this helps anyone wondering! It's been quite the crazy year - I don't know that I've ever felt so overwhelmed with stuff happening so early - but I think my plate is starting to open, and the line up that we have already seems awesome... I can't wait to see what else we end up with!

Tickets can be purchased at http://www.midwestgamingclassic.com/buy-tickets/

I am looking to sell a Black Knight pin at mgc but only if I can make a deal before hand. My Black Knight needs a bit of repair. The lights on the playfield are not working and I am not sure what the problem is. Everything else is in very good working order and plays very well. I am looking to get $1050 for it. If you are interested let me know and I will send you my email address and we can talk further.
Thanks

#180 7 years ago

Me and a few buddies are planning on bringing 5 machines total.
If all goes as planned it looks like it'll be:
Party Animal ( probably for sale)
Silverball Mania (probably for sale)
Goldball
F-14 Tomcat
Pharaoh

#181 7 years ago

I plan on bringing two

#182 7 years ago

I would be interested in buying any of the following in good condition if someone wants to bring said pin:

EBD
Gold Strike
Capt. Card
Jungle princess / queen

Maybe Harlem Globe

#183 7 years ago

Bringing a Williams Darling EM this year. Not for sale.

Going out to our email list shortly... For those not on it... If you're planning to bring a game to MGC this year, please send me an email to [email protected] to assist us with planning...

March 16, 2017

The 2017 Midwest Gaming Classic is rapidly approaching!
We are less than a month out and I can't believe how fast
it is coming. I apologize for not sending something out
to everyone earlier than this. Things with work and home
life have just dominated my priorities. I hate when life
gets in the way of pinball (my game of choice), but it
is what it is. I hope everyone is getting excited.

As in previous years, the
new information is at the top for those who have previously
brought games to the show. If you're new to bringing
games to MGC, you're probably going to want to trudge
through and digest it as there is good info in this whole email.
If you have further questions that aren't answered here,
then feel free to reply back and ask away.

There are a couple significant changes and activities that
might affect some of you. So please make sure you read
on!

We look forward to seeing you in three short weeks!

NEW STUFF:
*Cocktail and tabletop games: We've had to make the
difficult decision and will no longer be supporting and
providing game-bringing benefits to these machines. This
was a hard decision since these machines are part of our
hobby. Unfortunately, we just don't have the space to
support them. They require a fairly significant amount
of space and need seating to be enjoyed. So, until we
are able to expand our space, we need to limit the arcade
hall to stand-up, upright games.

If you have a cocktail machine that you are looking to
sell, we will do our best to find a spot for you but it
not be in the area of the arcade hall and will not likely
have good traffic so please keep that in mind. We can't
guarantee anything but if you were really hoping to move
that machine at MGC, we will try. However, there will be
no benefits for bringing the game (ie: no admission nor
after-party passes).

*BEST OF SHOW AWARDS - CASH PRIZES
Join us back at the arcade hall at 4:30pm on Sunday to
celebrate the best in show awards with help from the
Midwest Gaming Classic Arcade Party Auction! Two awards
will be given for best EM pinball, solid state pinball,
dot matrix display pinball, other pinball style (screen
or something else), single player video game, multi-player
video game, gun game, racing game, best mod, outstanding
original, and unique or rare game. These games will be
selected by a panel of judges. Additionally, each winning
game will receive $100 in cash! Both you and the game
must still be present to win!

There will still be voted-on categories, but the plan is
to award two best-in-show trophies and cash to each of
the above categories - that is 22 trophies and $2200 in
cash! These trophies will be given out by a panel of
judges that will be selected and will include where ever
the game is on the show floor.

Additionally, our fan-voted categories will remain (one
of all of the above) although those won't feature cash
prizes. We are also adding two additional trophies -
"Best New Game" and "Best Arcade Vendor". These will
be fan voted on and awarded to a representative of the
company (if present) for those particular wins!

*VIG: Reminder, the Friday night VIG even is not part of
the arcade party nor part of the free weekend admission.
Once again this year, a small portion of the arcade hall will be open
for those with VIG tickets. But, as in previous years,
the majority of the hall will be open for setup only. Note,
VIG was limited to 250 tickets and is already sold out.
Sorry.

* Will your game survive the whole show?
Are you one of those people who stick around until the very
end of the show? If your machine is still setup, operating,
AND playable at the end of the show, we've got a special
gift for you. If you're game goes down right at the end
of the show, we'll evaluate that on a case-by-case basis.
Basically, as long as you're making a good faith effort to
keep it going until the lights come on Sunday evening, you're
keeping with the spirit of what we're to accomplish.

* Passes for setting up in the arcade hall:
There are a bunch of official activities
taking place on Friday night at the MGC. However, the arcade
hall will not yet be open to the public. In order to
control access to the arcade hall, passes will be required
to get into the hall to setup. When you bring your
game in to setup (see below for setup times and load-in
location), security at the door will provide you with a
pass. In addition, you may also get a pass from one of
the arcade hall staff. We ask for your patience with
this process as there will inevitably be some kinks that
we will need to work. As is usual, the arcade staff will
be around and can address any issues or concerns that may
arise. So, just locate one of us if you have any issues.

* After-party - As in past years, the show will close
on Saturday night at 8pm. At that time the lights will
come up and we will clear out the hall. The
after-party will start at approximately 8:30pm and
go until 3am. There will be some changes to the areas
around the arcade hall to make the party a better
experience for everyone. The party includes food,
drinks, best-of-show voting and more! There is an
effort in place to do a silent auction just for you
guys with the proceeds helping to make the party and
game-bringer benefits even greater. You'll have to wait
for more details on that!
NOTE: This party is for you guys as a thank you for
bringing games. As the show has been gaining
popularity and the party has gained notoriety, we have had
issues with people sneaking in and thinking it's OK.
It isn't. We will be taking additional steps again
this year and will be strictly controlling access.

* Early removal fee: We've been forced to implement an
early removal fee for games that are sold and leave the show
floor prior to 11am on Saturday morning. Basically,
once you setup your game in the hall, you cannot take your
game out of service nor remove it from the hall prior to
11am on Saturday unless you pay a $100 penalty. The
MGC does not charge a sales commission on games sold during
the show nor do we intend to change that. In addition,
we do not prevent games from being removed from the arcade
hall floor while the show is going on. We feel that
this is much more generous and flexible than other shows
allow and we would like to keep it that way. In the
past, we have had games come to the show on Friday, get
setup and registered thereby receiving the benefits we offer
to game bringers. Then, that game might be sold and
removed on Friday night before the show even opens.
So, the show did not receive the benefit of having the game
there for people to enjoy nor the revenue from the admission
that the buyer would normally have paid. So, we feel
this is a good compromise between other options we could
have employed. We believe that most people will
understand the reason for this, but feel free to contact us
if you wish to discuss it further.

* Grounding and game safety: Once again this year, we
will be checking for safety ground connections on all
games. If a machine was designed to have a grounded
lug on the power cord connected to the metal on the game,
that must be intact and functional. If that is not the
case, you're machine will not be allowed on the floor of the
arcade hall. We will try to have cords and personnel
available to assist you with repairs if necessary for a fee,
but we cannot guarantee availability. So, please check
your power cords for ground connections as you shop and
prepare your games for the show.

A really good article on game safety was written by Matthew
Sell of the Seattle collectors group. There's a ton of
good information there and I encourage you to read it.
I've attached a copy of the file here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yol59fn7nryuqa1/Arcade%20Game%20Electrical%20Safety%C2%A0.docx?dl=0

* Setup times: The hall will be open for setup with staff to
assist you starting at noon on Friday afternoon. We ask that
you try to be there no later than 9pm if you plan to setup
on Friday night. However, if you think you'll be later
than that, please let us know and we'll do our best to
accomadate you. Also, if you need to drop off a game
prior to noon, let us know and we'll work that out. If
you are unable to setup on Friday, we ask that you make
every effort to arrive at 8am on Saturday to setup. We do
understand that it may not be possible for some due to
travel distances, so please let us know if you plan to
arrive after 9am. We will do our best.
NOTE: There has been some confusion in the past, so we would
like to clarify this. On Friday and Saturday morning
(prior to 10am), access to the hall is for drop-off and
setup only. Once your machine(s) are ready to go, we
ask that you leave the arcade hall. There is no
pre-party in the arcade hall. We really need your
cooperation with this as it helps us do our job of getting
the hall ready to go for everyone's enjoyment.

* Setup Location: The arcade hall is now located
where the vendor hall used to be which is on the northeast
corner of the hotel. The best load-in doors will be
the entrance on the east side of the hotel, north of the
main entrance. I don't recommend trying to come in the
main hotel entrance nor the north doors.

* Registration: Once you get setup in the hall,
we will get your game registered. At that point, you
will also get your reward tickets and party passes.
You can use your rewards for a weekend pass at that point if
you choose to do so. This year, in addition to the
show serial number, we will be requiring a telephone number
to be on each machine so we can contact you via text or
voice if your machine has an issue. Here's a
suggestion... if you're like me, you aren't thrilled to have
to stick a label to your nice game. What I do is bring
a couple 3x5 cards or scrap paper. I stick the serial
number and phone number to that and then tape that to the
apron under the glass. After the show, you just toss
it.

If this didn't answer all your questions, please feel free
to reply with what you want to know. We look forward
to seeing you in the very near future!
Keith, Steve, Chris, and the rest of your arcade hall crew

The $100 early removal fee is a great idea to keep games there all weekend. I'm sure some will bitch but I hate seeing games leave early and I didn't even get a chance to play them.

#186 7 years ago

You put the afterparty will NOT start at 830 and go til 3?

#187 7 years ago

In regards to the after party, I really like the stepped up enforcement.

Grinds my gears to see the people sneaking in. After last year and the dudes with fake wristbands, I would like to see charges pressed if they try that shit again.

Fixed and thanks. What sucks is that was a copy and paste error carry over from last year damnit!

The early removal fee is just there for the first hour the show is open to fix a "glitch" people were exploiting. We try not to use penalties to keep games there for the show but prefer to give incentives to keep games there.

Glitch == pre-arrange a game sale, take it in, set it up, claim wristband, buyer takes game ? That's pretty shitty.

I could bring it over for Sunday. It would just be unwise to have it there saturday without me there to babysit, because it will break.

Bring it the entire weekend. Put it in my room and baby sit it there. Worse case, it goes down when you're not there and we turn it off until you're back.

Quoted from epthegeek:

It's actually even slightly worse. The above happened sometimes, but also...

We would have people set up a game, someone say they were there to set up a game, go in, make a deal for it and walk out with it. In one specific case, I had someone in one of my Facebook groups post the pics of the STTNG that they bought at the MGC last month (this was a couple years ago).

I asked about where it was on the show floor, as I had been trying to get some time on one to decide if it was a future acquisition target, and the response was that he had snuck in Friday night and bought it and removed it because "It doesn't make sense to buy a ticket if I can just get things Friday night, and besides who actually wants their game played all weekend?"

Considering we really don't make much of any money off the show, and I'm constantly terrified that I'll have to personally cover the shows $150k+ expenses, this was a fix we thought was very fair. It covers the cost of a two day pass as well as the cost of a one day pass.

Its also why who can be in the hall is enforced stricter now.

It's references to stuff that aren't right and haven't come up to catch, mostly.
