Sounds like Mopar has led you down the needed path.
I have a Liberty Bell that is a little older. After i re-sleeved the coils and disassembled and cleaned/lubed all the step-up units, many weird actions went away.
Things like player advance when it isn't supposed to, frame counts off, etc.
The biggest challenge as Mopar discussed is knowing what is supposed to be "made" when.
Tracing the circuits can be a little confusing and laborius until you get your head wrapped around it.
