Was trying to piece something like this together to use as a soldering 3rd hand to hold the wire, or diode, etc. onto a lug while holding the iron, and solder. I just found this USA company that makes versions with several arms, and a metal base for use on a soldering workbench. But I found that they also sell a single flexible arm, with alligator clip and a pretty strong magnet as a base as an add-on accessory. Other cheaper ones seemed to have reviewers saying the magnet was not strong enough. This one costs more, but looked like it would be better.
Just tried it out tonight on a small repair. It seems to work well! It is stiff enough to stay in place, and the magnet base is pretty strong. It held nicely on whatever ferrous metal I put it on. The alligator clip can be tightened on the end in position, and comes with a couple of black insulator tubes to put over the jaws if you want. It came overnight with Amazon Prime.

They also have the same magnet and gooseneck with a LED-illuminated magnifier on the end. I did not get that, but it could be handy under the playfield too.
