see https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/3d-printed-piano-mod-for-twilight-zone

We are now working on a silicone Trunk for the Theatre of Magic. The Picture is the first result of injection molding without coloring.

Follow our work on: https://www.facebook.com/pinballprops/

Will be ready soon. Curious if pinsiders want one of these when we are satisfied with the result and can make some more.

Quoted from Manic:

Do you have your "big boy pants" on? If not you may soon be told to put them on... among other things

I have the strongest pants in the world, where are you pointing at? The copyright on the artwork?

#56 7 years ago

Believe me, this material is unbreakable and doesn't wear. Only thing which could be a problem is the paint. We are going to test this truly, this can take a long time. We have to be sure that this is your last Trunk
About the price? I can only say that when we are finished, knowing the best paint material etc. Only a week now busy, but I like our progress and your reactions!

Now, playing and testing TOM in the weekend!

Quoted from RVH:

There needs to be some cushioning reinforcement between the trunk and the metal frame it is mounted on.
I use 3m gel mounting squares, you can get them pretty easy. Target, Home Depot, or online I'm sure.
I've had the same trunk on my game for years with only a little damage now, but it doesn't get a ton of play really.
Here's a pic of the 3m squares. Thay are double sided adhesive and is easy to build up the required thickness.

You don't want any damage, that's where we working on. We have tried much options, but always damage in a few weeks.

Still testing, next one with silver/ black

Quoted from Goalie:

I wish the trunks were that greyish blue color to match the trunk art on the cabinet.

Humzzz.. Every color is possible! We will look at this option, thnx!

#72 7 years ago

It's weekend! More testing and playing with colors.

How is the testing coming along?

Played about 20 games, paint not damaged, up to 100.

Quoted from meSz:

georgio are you taking down names of those that express interest or will this be something that becomes available and just placed up for sale? They look good and (ironically) my existing one just broke so I am in when they become available!

We are testing a lot, not only by us, but we have also sent a few in NL to TOM owners for testing. Finding the best materials. When we know exact which materials are best we will slowly producing. It's a hobby project not a factory.
The ones we made will be offered in this topic from number 1 who is interested till the last reply is done.
At that stage the final price and shipping costs are known. I will contact you by PM.
After the list is done I will place a link for future orders.
Fair enough?

I don't believe he's offering blue anywhere in this thread. On post 81, zaza, another pinsider Photo Shopped a blue one, Georgio, didn't offer blue trunks.
But I do have to admit, the blue does look really good.

I never offered a blue one indeed, but I also have to admit, this photo shopped one looks really nice. So we have this in mind and it's possible to make! Please be patient, we love to satisfy you
With or whithout the golden bunny is the question

Played about 100 games and the paint is still 100%
Have send a test trunk to another TOM player and he is very satisfied after playing many times without any paint coming off.
We also noticed that with the flexible trunk the ball is easier to shoot in the trunk, It's a plus for me, don't know what the others think of this.

I think we can start production in June 2017.
we have experience with the material, that will stay flexible. Only about the paint we cannot say now how this looks in a year. For now it is outstanding!

On the other hand waiting a lifetime to test if it is lifetime proof product is also no option....
So there is a little risk with the painting. But that's easy to fix. If there is a little bit of wear after a long period, there is the option to order a gold ink marker at aliexpress for about 50 dollarcent to fix it.

I will update soon with a price and delivery options.

#157 6 years ago

We are going to make 4 variations:

- Original Black-Gold
- Black-Silver
- Bordeaux Red-Gold
- Purple Blue-Gold

Pictures of the first color variations will appear soon.

Price will be 75 euro for one Trunk and 140 euro for a Double Trunk Combo.

I will look for an option to send many trunks at once to the USA to save on shipping costs. If I find someone to resend it in the USA you will only pay the local USA shipping costs. Otherwise it's 30 euro shipping to the USA to one address.
Europe shipping is around 10 euro. Once the first are produced I will contact by PM in order of the posts in this thread and send you the total price.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

If it breaks, you will replace it?

It cannot break, but if you show me that a peace has come off you can pickup 2 for free!

#164 6 years ago

Listen Guys, This is much, much better then the original.
Rubber can't break. If you're afraid to invest 75 euro for this, wait for a year and read the reactions of the flexible Trunk owners.

I will keep everyone informed when the first run is done. There is a delay because of moviework which has to be done suddenly and a friend which works on this project with pain in his back. Had to be laying down for almost 3 weeks.
But all is restarting now, there is a holiday for me coming also, so I think it will be september when the first are going to ship.

Best,

George.

#189 6 years ago

We have found a local shipment service in USA and Canada. So for that countries, shipment costs are only local.
In the meantime there is still progress

I'm interested to see it after 1000 plays.

Then you have to wait for 2 years

#199 6 years ago

We will first focus on the gold and silver ones, because the base material is black so we can do this run first. After that we choose another color, red or blue.
Everyone who wants a gold/ silver one and a color one will be contacted with the question if they want the silver or gold first or want to wait a couple of months when the colored ones are ready to save on shipping costs.
Combo price discount will stay valid and will be discounted in the next order when you want the black one first.

What is the material these trunks are made of that makes then unbreakable?
Maybe it could be used in other areas of pinball?

It's already used in pinball rubbers, only these are more flexible. The trunks have a balanced compound that's not too soft and not too hard.

Good news! We have made the first batch of trunks, 90% gold and 10% silver. We think there's enough for everyone, so we aren't using a list of first interested anymore.
If you want a trunk, please mail gold or silver and the country where you live to [email protected] and you will receive the price including shipping and info how to order.

High Grade Polyurethane, unbreakable, made by hand with love. No more replacements.

Yes, it is not a latex, so it won't dry out.

Quoted from Damien:

When do we send payment? Will you be contacting us as you go through your list?
And out of curiosity, how much is it?

Please send a mail to [email protected], we handle orders by incoming mail. The price varies from country to country and the amount of trunks you order. I will quote you by mail.

#265 6 years ago

The amount of people who wants a trunk is bigger then we thought or ?
This weekend I'm afraid we will run out of the first batch. But we will making them every day!
We are not a company with a factory and production line, so it will progress slowly. We love to make them and make you happy to get rid of the breaking trunk problem.
So please mail if you are interested, mentioning the color you want (silver or gold at this moment) and where you live. I will contact you with a quote.
If they are out, we will contact you when yours is ready. You will never have to pay when we are working on them.

The startup was slow because we had one mold and tested the trunk a long time, especially the paint and technique to use. But we now have 2 molds and making some more, so production is a lot faster.

Also excuse me if you don't get a fast response by mail. I will do my best, but I have to spent more then 1 hour to make a trunk and cannot write mails in between with my gloves on Also we have the timezone problem between USA and Europe.

So please be patient, we will serve everyone!

Quoted from angus:

Can you show us more pictures of your test trunks after all the testing? How many games have been played? Very interested to see the results!

You can find this in this topic on page 4. Still looking great without any damage! post #191
And also interesting, the testers, including me, experienced a better game play. The ball enters the trunk more easily without weird back bounces. So higher scores and less stress also!

#269 6 years ago
Quoted from angus:

Well that was two months ago. I would think there would be a lot more games on it now and it is so easy to load pictures. Better to show lots of testing rather than just a little.

I posted pictures of even more games. This is all I can test, I'm sorry. I could have wait 2 years before selling this, that will be a good test, but you all have to wait that time. Maybe I don't have time anymore 2 years later and the Trunk would be a dead end.
Having a full time job, making Trunks in the evening. Shouldn't know how to get more time for playing pinball.
I think the best you can do if you are unsure is to wait a few years and read the stories of other users if it is good or not after that time.
And what many said: With these amount of games they will have changed the bad plastic trunk a couple of times.

#273 6 years ago
Quoted from angus:

I didn't ask you to wait 2 years, didn't even suggest that. I asked for a picture from today, didn't seem like an unreasonable request, sorry you feel I'm being unreasonable. Just seems you can post pictures of the finished trunks, posting one more of your test machine shouldn't have been that difficult. I think it is great you are making these, I know it takes a lot of time. Another picture of how well it holds up under another two months of play testing should help sell even more of these.

You're not unreasonable, it don't make sense for me to post the same picture, because the state of the trunk is the same, there are only a few games played more after the last picture.

#275 6 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

I backed out on buying OPs trunk because I think, ultimately, it changes how the game plays. That's not to say that OPs trunk is not of high quality, but with it being flexible, it would make the game that much easier to hit the trunk shot. Plus at $125 USD, I've read that getting a NOS trunk and reinforcing it with fiberglass is a good way to build a trunk to withstand the bashing, at half the US price...so that's the way I'm going to go once my stock trunk has gone too far damaged. But OP, thank you for offering an alternative product! Now, if you could make the trunk rigid and still be unbreakable, then I think you would have something i would consider.

It's not that much change in gameplay Also the Trunk isn't as flexible like a pinball rubber, just enough to keep it in good shape!
The most breakable part of the plastic trunk is the corner where the ball goes into the scoop. When you hit that point you get heretic ball moves and much force on the plastic because it bends at the corner and breaks many times later on. Our Polyurethane Trunk flexes the ball in the scoop at that critical corner point. Because it moves a bit with the flow of the ball and lowering a bit the speed. I have seen a lot of frustration with the plastic trunks on the trunk shot, and they are much less with the flexible trunk. That's all. More fun to play.
The trick with fiberglass is known by me, but this only extends the life time a bit, not twice. But as I said, if you don't trust or are unsure about this product wait a few weeks until the first try them out. I'm convinced this is a revolution.
And about the price: The High grade polyurethane we use is the best there's available at the market right now. High price also. 75 Euro for a trunk sounds a lot, but we didn't want to compromise on cheaper materials. We wanted the best material and the price comes second. Maybe some can arrange a local shipment action to save costs? Some did. Also two trunks are 140 euro and shipping costs are the same till 5 trunks. You can always quote for a price.

#276 6 years ago

Angus and others: This is how the trunk looks like today after all the games. This was our first production. Don't mind the lamp hole. These are nice round after this one.
The only damage I can see is the left corner of the trunk entrance. You see a little bit of paint wear there. If this gets some more after +500 games, it's easy to fix with a golden paintpen on Ali (1 dollar). The trunk shape is exactly the same with no damage. Also I didn't clean anything since the first game with this trunk.
The black color is mixed into the polyurthane, that will be never a problem.

My trunk spreads out at the bottom on the backside with the magnet and looks a bit funny. Any suggestions on what to use to hold the lower corners to the metal frame? I can’t seem to find anything that will stick to the inside trunk surface.

With our flexi trunk?

#320 6 years ago

And when you put the trunk off it is normal again I assume? I'm thinking that you tightened the trunk screws too fast or too loose. What happens if you don't use the screws, is the shape normal then?

I had one customer where he thought he tightened the screws, but one was not in the hole of the bracket, so he raised the Trunk at one corner side. Looked like the Trunk was totaly out of shape.

Must be something at the top side of the metal bracket.
Can you please send pictures to [email protected]? Also from the top inside, so we can have a good look if we see something.

And we don't like taping things in pinballmachines. If something isn't like it should be, we will make it better
Suggestions welcome!

thnx,

George.

@Damien, I don't understand the problem. The light should not be sticking out, but in the trunk behind the hole. Also if that is the case, there should not be a bolt peaking out or something.
Please attach a photo, so I or other members can look at this.

#350 6 years ago
Quoted from GimpMaster:

Hey guys, I received my trunk. As I was putting it on I noticed some foam spacers on the trunk metal. Are these supposed to be here? It bows out the trunk. Just curious what your thoughts are.

There should not be any foam spacers. This is probably done by the previous owner to prevent impact damage on the brose plastic of the trunk, to let is last a month longer or so.

#356 6 years ago

Wauw, sure the nut is the problem? Anyone else with the same problem? You must have had a bigger problem with no flexible trunks, because they don't compensate. How was that? The shape is exactly the same as the original. There is some space between the bracket and trunk side, that must be enough. I tested a bunch of trunks on different toms and didn't came across this. What happens if you remove the trunk mounting screws? Is it gone away then? I have seen this with screws mounted next to the thread, so one side of the trunk is lifted.

#357 6 years ago

I looked again at your picture, you already had the screws removed, but why is your trunk so shifted? It is not straight in line with the magnet plate. Wish I could touch it from here and fix it for you. Must be something wrong and different from other trunks

#360 6 years ago
Quoted from Damien:

I took the screw out, and even remove the light, and still it was the same issue. After inspecting closer, the trunk itself has one side much thicker than the other three sides, and this is why it is not sitting flush.

No that can't be the problem, they all have one side thicker than the others, the original does too. It's coming out of the same mold. They cannot vary in size, than the dots on top would vary in size too. They are all exactly the same. Everyone should have had this problem when it's the cause of one side is thicker. Thinking.......

#363 6 years ago

Damien, the outer side is always the same. The inner side can vary from 0,5 to 1mm because of the inner plug which goes into the mold. But the side with the light is always thicker because of the original combination of trunk and plug we have got. I have them all fit on my TOM before sending.
Ofcourse we want to solve this problem for you. This weekend we wil have a new batch ready to paint. I will look for the closest one that looks like and match your trunk and put in in my TOM and show you the picture. If this will bend like your picture I certainly send you a new one if the trunk is the problem.

#369 6 years ago

If you want a trunk, you can mail us at [email protected]. I will reply when we have some new Trunks ready.
The issue with damien will be checked today on two tom brackets with a Trunk with an even thicker wall.

#370 6 years ago

Damien,

I have made one of the thickest Trunks this morning. It fits without problems like al the trunks I made did. I measured the outer bracket width, this is 83mm. Even with the thickness of this Trunk, the inner side of the trunk is almost 90mm.
So there is 3mm free space on both sides between the bracket and the Trunk.
Can you measure the width of your bracket and also the inner width of your Trunk for me?

Good news and bad news....

The good news is that we now are permitted to make this part by the official Bally Williams licensee! We can make these trunks without breaking copyright rules and will not have problems that we are forced to stop making these trunks.
This way we support making good pinball parts in the market. There are more parts to come from us and this way we open the future cooperation.

The bad news is that the trunks will cost some more, but it will be a reasonable amount. I hope you all will understand that I wanted to save these product for not being taking of the market and many TOM owners can enjoy this.

And now I'm going to work on the new batch!

Please measure your bracket, just to be sure that this is not the problem. I'm curious for that size, because the size of the inner plug is constantly the same, only a bit shifting from left to right. I have seen some light skewed sides, but that was fixed with the lampholder mounted inside instead of outside. As some said here, the trouble was the head of the bolt peaking out of the bracket.
If you say that with the lamp holder completely taken off and still have this problem, your bracket must be 5mm bigger than the normal ones. Can you shift the trunk some mm from left to right? if you force it to the right is the problem gone? In that case you can use a drill and make the holes in top of the trunk a bit bigger to the left. Many possibilities to solve this issue, but you have to give more information. I have nothing on the information that this one is thicker than that one etc. They all differ somehow because of the placement of the plug in a dark vacuum container.

#376 6 years ago
Quoted from NYP:

Could be the 4 hex stand offs aren’t straight causing the trunk to twist ?

That would be fixed with shift drilling the holes somehow

Gord

Thank you for the response. This is why we love to make them.

#470 5 years ago

All trunks gone and a few reserved awaiting payment. We are very pleased to hear the succes stories past year. 4000 games, without a scratch, wow, It acts even better then we hoped and that's only refering to the painting. We had experience with the material we are using, but not with the painting on rubber how it will last, The 400 games we have played during testing it stayed very good. Then after reading the feedback we see it's way more games without covering up with a gold painting pencil on the spots which are beaten up at the trunk.

We loved to make them past year. And we hope the trunk you received will last forever, that was our goal.

Now we are busy for 6 months and when we are back and have some spare time, we will make another batch.

Please let us know here your experience with our trunk, negative or positive. We will learn from that and make this trunk even better.

See you in 6 months!

I have a theatre. I made my own “unbreakable trunk”. Purchase a new standard one for around $30. Get yourself an epoxy tube from Home Depot. Coat the inside of the truck with epoxy and let dry. Mine has been on for 7 years and not a single crack.

Amazing! Almost unbelievable, because the cracks will begin from the outside, not from inside. Must be some magic!

Hi guys,

Just an update. The batch is almost ready, only the painting has to be done next weeks.
I love to hear that all the trunks are doing well and you find them beautifull. Good news! The new batch is slightly nicer
I had the most perfect trunk to make the molds and with your nose on the trunk you will see some more perfection.

Beginning in the second week of January 2020 I will mail all the subscribers with info and completing the shipment etc.
Because I have a job from monday till friday and don't want to spend my whole weekend with trunks making and mailing, I post +/- 20 subscribers in a weekend beginning from the 1st on the list who is waiting the longest time. Sure I reserve some for subscribers which missed my mail or I missed their mail.
So after five weeks all is done.

I hope you can wait and understand this way I'm working on it.

Hope to satisfy you soon! Check your mail next month!

Quoted from Phantasize:

I should be on the list as well? Any chance you can say how many are still on the list, but haven't heard from you yet? (How many will have to wait for the next batch of trunks?)

No, pinside names are different then mail adresses, You can send an email to [email protected] and I can check if you are on the list.
If you are on the list then the trunk will be made for you this or next month.
You can also check your inbox if you got a reply from me that you're on the list. Saves me work.

#540 4 years ago
Quoted from Coils:

Would be nice if you issued everybody an order number and then post which numbers are being served. This would probably reduce everyone asking when their trunk will be sent.
Just a thought...
Thanks for producing an excellent product that every ToM owner needs

No time for that, sorry, then I'm asked when their order number is being served, same problem and I have to post on different sites. I cannot guarantee when they are exactly ready, I have my work and of days etc. etc. It must stay as a hobby under control

Maybe next time it is the best to stop working with a waiting list. It takes me a lot of time with mailing etc. I rather make trunks with that time.
When I have some ready I post it here and see who is first. The mailing and answering/ explaining isn't a nice part of the hobby.

Please don't send mails when you are being served, everyone who has got an email that he is on the list will be served this or next month.

Due to Covid Flight restrictions my molding partner is stuck for more than 2 months outside Europe. We both are hoping he can return in September and that we can start the new batches. This was not planned and giving a delay as long as he cannot fly to Europe.

Hi guys,

Sorry if I don't answer emails or with a delay. Everyone who mails to [email protected] is on my list. When trunks are ready I will contact you in incoming mail order. I cannot answer questions such as where am I on the list? How long do I have to wait? How many are in front of me? Sorry, confusing, but I understand you are waiting too long for it Please be patient. Dear Sender,
We're sorry,
Due to intensive work for a new movie and the doubled price of PU Rubber resin we use for making our unbreakable Trunks, we temporarily halted the production.
We will be back in March 2022 and try to make a new batch for a fair price.
All people who mailed us before 19 december 2021 will be added to the waiting list.
You will be served/mailed first in incoming date of mail.

Sorry Don, you totally don't understand how it works. Print money? Wish we could mass 3d print or mass injection mold these Trunks. I don't understand why you don't make them by the 100's yourself if it brings so much money?
1 trunk is 3 hours of work! Thanx for your support

Prior to installing the unbreakable trunk I was replacing the trunk once or twice a year. It is well worth the cost and it looks great.

You were one of the first! Great to hear that the Trunk still looks great after 4.5 years! We have received mails from operators that our Trunk still looks as new after 10.000 plays. Better as we expected! Plays and aging approved! Nice!

BREAKING NEWS!

We started making a new and large batch of our unbreakable rubber trunks.

Everyone on the waiting list will be contacted first. Only one Trunk each person to keep it fair. Don't worry if you're not on the list, we are going to make a lot every batch. 150 Trunks already molded and waiting for the special paint and coating. From this moment on we accept no new requests by email.

We will place the new trunks on a website when they are available. I will make an announcement here so you all have the time and are first to order online. Pinsiders first!

Stay tuned.. When the batch is finished we start mailing/ adding them to the stock on our website.

See you soon!

Fantastic news!! Do you know what the price will be?

Not at this moment. When the batch is finished we look at the hours, material costs, failures etc. etc.
We try to maintain the old price, which was 95 Euros, added with the increased price of rubber compound.

If anyone doesn't want to wait, Zitt is selling some over here for $138: https://pinball-mods.com/oscom/trunk-p-89.html?utm_source=pinside&utm_medium=link

Selling some? That's not our trunk! Our Trunk is made of rubber, not vinyl and not so thin.
Tested and approved by many.

Quoted from lilmul123:

I'm sure it'll be fine. It's certainly more durable than the OG trunk in any case.
I think it's funny you didn't start making these again until a competitor appeared lol

Competitor? We already started this 1 year ago, because of the rubber compound going out of date. You're very funny! You make them yourself? We just finished our movie props job and have 6 months of free time now to make new batches. Past 2 years already mentioned. LOL
Vinyl is used for making old LPs

Thanx!, you did receive a trunk from us, right? Just checked the waiting list

Lol, you think we made 150 of these in a week? Very funny guy indeed!

Blue and Red ones also in this batch!

Well, considering 55 days ago, you said you didn’t know when you were going to make these again leads me to believe you didn’t have any intention of making them any time soon. And this is after a nearly three year hiatus with people saying they will literally throw money at you to make them. The timing is just too coincidental, sorry.

I didn’t make them ‍:/

Whatever... Have a nice weekend! And it's still a hobby/ free time project for me!

I should be on waiting lost hopefully. A couple years ago signed up.

Yes you're on the list since 8 March 2021 !

Quoted from MiniPinHead:

Can you please re-post a photo of the variations you’re expecting you make?
No rush, but please put me down on your list

We have made a few in Red and Blue color. Problem is that the color is different with each trunk. We will place the colored ones on our website as single item so you can choose which color you like. But first the regular standard ones.

Very busy now!

The rubber compound we are using is thick and flexible. I personally love the Blue Gold color in my TOM.
Maybe an extra rabbit on the trunk would look great!

I have your Black / Gold version from your first run years ago.
I agree the Blue / Gold does look sharp! Especially seeing it in the game.

How is the Trunk doing? Still in the same state? Because of the thicker rubber the Trunks looks more 3D in the machine

?

It looks like a deflated pancake to me! So thin and missing details. More 2D then 3D.

I would really like a blue trunk. I requested this a long time ago, but you decided not to make any colors other than black at that time. Can you please reserve a blue trunk for me?

You ordered 2 black/ gold trunks in 2017, right? Please send an email for a quick reminder to [email protected]. I will contact you when one is ready.

Amazing the work and efforts that go into a rubber magic trunk.
Thanks for doing this on such a great game!

Thanks for your reply! Rubber was a big challenge for us. Injection molding with a mold and plastic would be 100 times quicker but that doesn't work with rubber compounds. Also rubber and painting without tearing was an issue. After 6 months of testing, we believed our product was "ready".
Glad it did after many years and games. Better then expected!

#696 62 days ago

No Panic if you're on the list or not. Making more every day. There will be enough!
When we are done, the Bally/ Williams/ PPS licensing will be arranged and the shipping can start

Sorry if I don't reply to your e-mail. Very busy making them. Please just wait.

Quoted from etien:

Just to say I have one for 7 years now on my TOM and not a scratch. Highly recommended

Thanx for your input! Damaging the paint on rubber with steel balls hitting it all the time with flexing rubber was our biggest concern. Even after testing the Trunk for a long time. Came out better then we expected! Also after 10.000 games played and 7 years later. Paint companies didn't had an answer to our question. We can use our painting proces also on other rubber products like the goldeneye radar disc which is next to offer.
