I got a new to me Airway in a beautiful gig box. I think the box alone is worth more than i paid for the Airway.

Anyways its in beautiful shape and did come some assembly acquired. The previous owner bought new parts (Balls, leg bolts, fasteners etc) for the restore. There are some nylon leg levelers but it also has either the original or period appropriate ones that i will use instead.
There were also extra parts that don't seem to go with this machine, kind of like someone made an order for multiple prewar machines.

I honestly don't think i will do much to this beauty except maybe repaint the legs.

Here are some of the unboxing pics. More to come later including some parts questions.

OK so it's on legs and reassembly has begun. It's interesting how simple the mechanics are. It's all based on the ball (or pf on start up) hitting an actuator lever.

Questions include
should this be a spring instead of the rubber stop?
plungerplunger
What's this lever for? If It's Locked withe the play field forward, the game won't start. Do I just leave it in the up position?unknown leverunknown lever

Here are some additional internals pics.

OK next question? How do you untilt? It is difficult to actually tilt as you have to lift the machine but I wanted to check the function.

As far as I can tell it doesn't stop game play . It looks like there may be a mech to get the ball out of the tilt hole but I can't tell how. I would think starting a new game would reset. I'll go look at that.

Problem solved. Like I thought and Dirt confirmed.
When you start the game the entire under playfiled slides back via the coin mech and is what opens the commode lids and should hit the lever which untilts the tilt ball mech.

The actuator was bent in such a way that the ball wouldnt come out of teh tilt hole.

Small adjustment and its working as expected.

Ill tell you this game is fun as sh*t. I cant get all 10 planes yet but ill keep playing till i do.

Now i have to figure out how to set the coin mech up for free play.
