I'm starting to get this issue. I'm actually running down a few issues which I think are related to some bad chips on the main board (post battery damage), and this is a symptom that has recently popped up now and then. I plan to attempt a repair on the board soon (and just replace it with a RD if I fail miserably). I am curious to know if you tried replacing the ribbon cables or not, and if that helped.

It's only happened a few times, and when it did I would press on the roms and re-seat the ribbon cables and it would just work fine after that. Havent had an issue with it in over a year at this point (knock on wood)

I decided to replace my main board with a Rottendog and magically all of my mystery issues stopped being issues. I still have the original board and I believe it is repairable, but I had to be honest with myself about my soldering skills.
