Can a bad sound board effect my display?

Not impossible. More likely ribbon cables.

    In short: YES.

In long: the CPU, Fliptronic, Sound and Display board all share a 34-pin ribbon cable. That cable carries logic signals. If, for example, one of the data or address bits are held low or high (by a faulty IC) then the bus no longer carries the signals required by the software to function correctly.

A related question please. The sound on my Williams IJ is out. I checked the 2 fuses on the bottom left of the sound board , they are fine. What should I check next?
    Thanks very much.

    I replaced the ribbon cables.
