great pics. Amazing attention to detail!

Bryan, what is your current preferred ultrasonic concoction?

I asked this already but didn't share- Purple Power.

that is what it looked like based on the color, thanks

diluted or 100% strength?

Only ice in my whisky, thanks.

Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

Sorry, man, but the logistics would never work. It was difficult the last time. You'd need to find someone who literally needs to Shadow me and this is not my nine to five job so the hours are all over the place. I laugh every time I send Brandon a pic at 7:00 AM on a Sunday morning. I'll get a couple hours in before my wife gets out of bed.

Where there is a will there is a way. I can't imagine a local pinsider with a flexible schedule that wouldn't be willing to shadow you. Maybe Whysnow and I can figure out the logistics if you would be willing to be shadowed at some point.

#106 9 years ago

I unfortunately love way too far away to make spur of the moment trips to MN and I also have no video skills.

Quoted from Glarrownage:

Maybe there would be a better chance of obtaining the old tapes, editing them down, then only inserting new clips for changed procedures. Its also about time for another pinball kickstarter to presell DVDs.

I'm cool with that as well. If anyone else is interested I'm all ears, count me in.

50 - 50 mix with water. Making sure the water is hot makes a big difference too.

I've sent a hard drive copy to two other people over the years and nothing ever came of it. It's funny, I had no idea exactly what and when Chris was recording. When I got the hard drive, it contained hundreds of recorded clips anywhere from 10 seconds to no more than a minute long. Maybe close to a thousand of them. Twenty two hours worth of 10 to 30 second clips.

I watched about a third of them, to try and get them organized. No way in hell am I going to edit that shit.

This is just amazing. That dickhead does a nice job!

Having Bryan Kelly restore a pinball machine for you will enrich your life and make you a better person.

Looks great, and local. Just subscribing so I can watch progress.

A quick update from this morning. The cab decals are all done, now all of the clean stuff has to find a way in to the cab. The Playfield has not been started yet - the plan is to strip it down soon and send all the trim , rails, diverter, etc off to get powdered. During that time, Bryan will be focusing on other customer's games.

Man I sure hope Rick at PPS is commissioning his art guys to redo all the B/W stuff and address all the little errors in the repro sets(or even start fresh). As a graphic artist, the way that front decal is wrong really gets to me. It's such an easy thing to have corrected before all these decal sets were made. It makes me almost wonder if whoever originally redrew that artwork actually even had a TZ there with him to contrast and compare.

Still, absolutely beautiful workmanship on everything(as usual)! I love going on these restoration "rides" with the OP's that post these threads.

Please no pointing out problems in things that I neither knew about nor can control! Now that's going to stick in my mind and I never knew there was a problem....

I know, I suck. The thing is, though, ALL of the repro decals are like that. They're even like that on Chris Hutchins' TZ restorations.

At least you didn't buy the early Phoenix Arcade TZ decals that had the overly huge red bloom on the sides.....those were awful.

The TZ I did had some major decal issues on the front lower part of the cabinet. PPS worked with my client to get a better front decal. It seems hit or miss because the second or maybe third one I got was acceptable. I see a little bit of a problem with the BOP set I just ordered but I'm not sure if I want to deal with it or not.

Brandon, I'll put this artwork on 100 cabinets and 99 1/2 of the people will love it.

You'll like it.

Sorry if this is an ignorant question as im not an expert on TZ artwork, but are you talking about the reflection of the LI on the bottom front?

OP your work is fantastic!

Might be.

To be clear, I am not skilled in these arts, so the only thing I can be praised on is the good sense to recognize that about myself and send the game to Bryan Kelly who knows what he's doing!

#126 9 years ago

My bad. Bryan you do great work! And yes OP it looks like you made a good decision.

Oh yeah, thanks for that - I hadn't figured it out so I let it go. You an Miguel have seriously f'd with my OCD. DAMMIT.

Great job Bryan! The amount of effort that goes into this hobby is crazy.

Yes, I did check for that! It seems crazy to me that such a mistake went to print in the first place. Maybe they thought it was an improvement.

Yes, very odd! That's the only thing I can think of: as an improvement or a simple mistake that somehow got missed obviously by accident.

Black bolts on the head was the right call. Very sleek when joined up with the black powder coating.

My work has never been called "sleek." I like it.

#134 9 years ago

Just curious, to get it to this point, what time frame are we talking about?

I mean, this thread is a little less than a month old. is that a correct time line?

Chris

#135 9 years ago

Yes - I started the thread the day it shipped out - I think it arrived about 9/2. I haven't demanded to know how much longer it will be, but I know there is some delay while waiting for powder & boards to come back from the Cauldron. In my case I delivered to Bryan an already restored and cleared playfield, so no long delay waiting for that process.

#136 9 years ago

i see the 2 holes where the coin box goes.....is there a bracket that goes there?

Thanks. That is what I figured. You can't really put a timeline on a masterpiece though!

Wish I could afford to have a machine restored.

Those are there for import games. There's different bracket mounted for a different coin box.

Looks like you have some extra to sell. Its all about priorities - I had 20 games, now I don't. I found I'd prefer to have a few really nice ones so I've consolidated somewhat. Really personal choice on what folks value - the only right answer is to do what you prefer.

See? I just noticed what was wrong, at least I wasn't a dick enough to point it out!

By the way, btw75, a TZ with the black hardware is in my future, too. I've got most of the parts already, just waiting to pull the trigger on the rails and lockdown bar until everything else with my TZ is in order. (I work from the inside out. I've only got a couple of plastics left to replace or put protectors on, then I've got no excuse!)

#141 9 years ago

this is such a thing a beauty!

I am really enjoying this thread.

#142 9 years ago

I've had a few people PM me and have suggested that I be the one to post the pics and add the commentary. It would be more helpful to them.

Well, I did that once https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ij-restoration-started and have no plans on spending the time to do it again. Simply put, it's a shitload of work.

Brandon simply asked if he could share the pics I send him and I said sure. What he does with them is up to him.

Yeah - After just trying to keep up with posting the pics I realize now how hard it was for you to do the IJ thread. A lot of the pictures you send remind me specifically of the IJ commentary, so I see no need to replicate. Thanks for participating when folks have questions on here and thanks allowing me to share as I'm not only proud of the project but I know I love to follow these pinporn threads and figure others do as well.

For the rest of you, stop pestering Bryan otherwise he'll stop sending me pics! Note that I use the captioning feature to occasionally offer "color" based on what Bryan has told me along the way.

The Indiana Jones thread is a wealth of information and I would recommend it to anyone contemplating doing a restore themselves. I know I have referred back to it several times while doing my STTNG.

Bryan or Btw75 if you don't mind can you tell us which decal set you prefer for TZ. I think it is going to be my next full restore on my personal game.

Bryan used the PPS Next Gen. Way better than some of the ebay ones - look above for discussion on that.

ALSO -
Bryan just texted me the words "okey dokey". Should I fire him or is that just a Minnesota thing?

#146 9 years ago

You must have started that restoration job on IJ right after you restored my BSD I bought from you.

Thank you.
Good to know.

Now if they would only fix that little problem. It will bug the heck out of me too
