[SOLVED] Pivot was gummed up with old grease. Cleaned pivot.

Short version: Outhole coil buzzes while trying to pop and plunger is very stiff. Will not eject ball to trough.

Fired up TZ after a few years. Ran tests and all seemed fine so I tried a game. The powerball was first out and was recognized. Shot it around a bit and as soon as it passed the flippers, the game could not find any balls and stayed in 'Give it back' mode and would periodically pop around the machine to find a ball.

In test mode found the outhole coil does not fire, only buzzes repeatedly. I can push the plunger but it's stiff (with machine turned on). If I push it out it does pop the ball just a bit. There is a bit of residue by the coil and it also appears to have been replaced at some point.

The powerball is still in the outhole position with one regular ball in the trough.

Any advice much appreciated.

Take the apron off. Likely the plunger has seized, or the plunger arm is caught somewhere.

Sounds like the plunger is binding in the coil. I'd take the coil off and look for mushrooming or burr/corrosion on the plunger, clean it up and change the coil sleeve to allow it to move freely. Then go from there.

Yep, what Coyote said. That's what happens when I open a thread in a new window and then don't read it for a while

The pivot was badly gummed up with old grease. Got it cleaned out and everything moves freely now.

What kind of grease (if any) should I use on the pivot to put it back?

No greese just clean all that crap off and reassemble . I just fixed 2 friends pins with same issue

Yeah - no grease. No game - aside from some special 'toys' use grease.

But if you ever did need to lube a metal on metal pivot joint area, make sure to use a 'dry lubricant' as to not attract and hold onto dirt.

Something like Tri-Flow Dry Lubricant.
