Just put back together my new TZ after taking everything off the playfield, rebuilding clock and gumball, new flippers, rubber, bulbs, coil sleeves everywhere, etc., etc. Found a weird plastic piece in the backbox, white, about 1 inch long and 1/4" in diameter, with a longitudinal groove down the side, and the number 4 embossed on one end. Any ideas what this is? Game plays great without it, but I hate it when this happens!

Thanks!

It looks like the Nylon tip from a plunger. If you found it in the backbox it's probably from the knocker.

Seconded. Seen several plunger tips with the groove, how ever not the number on it. Maybe from an old plunger that broke, and was replaced and left in the back box?

I believe it is from the knocker assembly. I checked my BSD (built around the same time) which I am working on. It has a similar plastic part with a slit in it. Can't confirm the number though.

BTW....BSD and TZ use the same knocker assembly per the manuals.

Thanks, all! That's exactly what it is. Press-fits into the end of the knocker piston. Didn't realize it was supposed to be there when I cleaned and re-sleeved the knocker. What a great group!

Great pictures! Glad you solved the mystery!

I don't think it's pressure fitted, if you look on the sides of the plunger you will see a indentation where they tried to lock the nylon onto the steel shaft. Personally I would have put a new one and suspect it will fall out again.
