A few years ago I bought a restored twilight zone. The last time I moved it I noticed the bottom of the cabinet had pulled away from the back of the cabinet. I never got around to fixing it and kind of forgot about it.

I just moved the game again and want to get this fixed. What would be the repair method for this. Could I get some wood glue into the seam and wrap ratchet straps around the game until the glue dried? I would prefer a fix that is not too in-depth because the cabinet has already been finished and painted.

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Weekend bump for repair ideas or suggestions

Quoted from no-extra-balls:

Looks minimal, I would probably just leave it. If you feel you have to do something about it, get a little wood glue in there and use a few pipe clamps long enough to clamp the back panel and the front coin door panel vs ratchet straps.

No-extra-balls, thanks for the reply! I agree it is pretty minimal but my concern was when I was moving the game I saw the back and bottom flexing apart and didn't want it to get any worse.

I had also thought about getting some wood glue in the gap but I'm not sure how to go about getting the glue in there because there isn't much of a gap on the inside of the cabinet; the gap is the widest on the bottom side of the cabinet and this would be the optimum place to put the wood glue but I don't think that would work because the glue would probably all run out. Maybe I'll try to get some in there and clamp it quickly before it runs out.

Quoted from underlord:

MDF board will naturally shrink with age, as it is a processed material with wax built in it. Since it is inherently not structural minor gluing and clamping should be fine.
If it really bothers you you can build a poplar bottom. That’ll solve it permanently.
I insert glue by actually using wood sticks lightly pressed in to increase the gap, pour glue in and use large clamps overnight. Gorilla wood glue is great.

Underlord, thanks for the reply and great suggestion about using the wood sticks to open up the gap! I am completely fine with just using wood glue and not building a whole new bottom for it. I will probably use tapered wood shims to drive in the gap to open it up for glue. I will stop at the store and get some gorilla Wood glue. Thanks again!
