Quoted from Squeakman:Obviously Phoenix Arcade has a reputation for high quality, but domn those are double the cost I have seen. I need a set for mine and would love these. Can anyone explain why the next gen are crap and what the differences are?
I know I had a hard time pulling the trigger myself but I have been talking to PA for the last two years to see if he would have been willing to sell me a set. These came out of the ones he set aside for his own personal use however recent health issues forced him to stop doing restoration work so he decided to sell, I just happened to be browsing eBay and came across them.
His are silk screened and every silk screened set of decals that I have used have always been better. The look and feel of the decals are just like the originals that were silk screened on the cabinets from bally Williams. Production is super labor intensive and you have the ability to mix your own ink to get the colors perfect. Of course it also depends on the artist when they scan the original art to make the screens they have to make sure it’s accurate too, something PA has been very good at. I think he had one issue with early versions of TZ but was eventually corrected.
With Next gen everything is done via printer ink think a higher end inkjet printer. This process is much harder to get the colors right you don’t have the ability to customize like screening does. Just like screening the artist ask has to clean up the scans and some of the nextgen producers aren’t that great. They also don’t have that same feel to them as the screened ones. When you get a chance run your hands over the original artwork on your game you can feel the raised ink.
I would 100 percent recommend going for these over the nextgen if you are picky like myself. I ripped off 6 month old next gen decals off my T2 becuase a guy out of Germany made silk screened ones that got the fluorescent colors a dead match for the originals.
