Hi, it appears that I have a completely dead TZ clock motor - I measured 13V DC going to the motor on game power-on, the clock gear assembly spins with minimal resistance by hand with the motor removed, and there's no pinion movement when the motor's connected to a 9V battery. Therefore, I'm in the market for a new motor.

Does anybody know the specs on the motor, specifically the RPM? I see there are a replacements available via pin parts suppliers, but I would think a standard 12V DC motor with the same specs would work at a lower cost. Thanks!

have you considered pulling the motor apart?

maybe try compressed air in the vent sections?

Certainly worth exploring too. The armature isn't locked up and spins freely, so perhaps the magnets are just shot. Might be a hassle to find magnets that fit though (I'm not well-versed in DC motors though, so maybe not!).

I'm thinking the contacts that run on the commutator/shaft, they are quite fine and may just need tweaking?

magnets don't wear down, maybe a break in the circuit in the motor?

Yes sorry, I meant maybe the brushes are worn out. The symptoms actually began as the motor getting slower and slower over time when I'd power the game on, and now there's zero movement. I'll see if I can open it up to take a look.

As I don't know the motor internals or specs, and I'm not 100% on this but I don't think there are brushes running on a commutator but thin leaf blades that run on the shaft, so brushless.

Looking at the motor there doesn't appear to be the plugs on the sides that hold the springs and carbon brushes that would run on the commutator.

Looking forward to what you find inside.
