My tz played great for months, not one issue, suddenly during one power up, she started blowing f105. I have looked at all the solenoids on that matrix, nothing's looks out of place. Any thoughts?
Thanks

So when you power on the game does a coil lock on before the fuse blows? If so, the transistor or coil has an issue and is causing it to blow. If not, does the fuse blow if you remove the solenoid connectors from the power board and power up with them removed? If so, internal board issue. If not, check each pin in the connectors for short to ground with a dmm. Check each transistor tip to ground for those coils. Tip102/122 transistors test tip to ground for shorts.

Nothing locks or at least it doesnt have time to. Which connectors should I unplug to isolate the board?

#4 10 years ago

You can look for them in the manual in the back. The board is also labelled. I think they're along the middle bottom row.

I have no manual, unfortunately.
I will remove the bottom row

I removed almost all of the bottom row, still blew right away

Manuals are posted on ipdb. Gotta learn to help yourself a bit

Totally forgot about ipdb having the manuals. I will have to print them out.
Anyway, still blew the fuse with the bottom row unplugged

Keep in mind that Bally/Williams fuse designations for solenoids are probably wrong more often than they're right. Don't isolate your search to just the solenoids listed for that particular fuse.

Any ideas on what else to look for?

F105 will be for solenoids, you need to find the one that's shorted, has a shorted diode, or driver.

Pull all the connectors off of the bottom of the driver board and power on. If F105 still blows, you have a locked on driver. With the connectors still off, test continuity to each TIP102 tab to ground. The one that shows continuity is shorted.

Well, did you look at the manual? That fuse controls sol 1-8 which are located on J130, which is not on the bottom row. Unplug that one and then check.

That of course assuming the manual is right - but at least start there!!
