Does it kick the ball out right away after hitting the lock shot or does it take a a bit and then fire all the coils and kick it out?
My first thought is that the switch isn't working telling the game that the ball is locked...but if it kicks it out right away that'a another matter.

Quoted from zjg35:

Also of note the game does register an extra ball when it is lit and enters the lock.

So the lock is lit, you hit the ball in there, the game doesn;t say "ball one locked" or anything like that, and then kicks it out after a few seconds...how "few" are these seconds

Are you familiar with the menu systems? You need to go into switch test mode and put the ball in there, and see if the switch is registering.

Ah I think i see now...page 2-51 of the manual there are 3 switches, 2 optos and a normal switch, that all should be triggered when the ball passes thru to the lock (#84/85/88). Maybe 'one' of the optos isn't seeing the ball and getting confused? You'd think the bottom lock switch should be enough though, but stranger things....

Can you tell me which switches are supposed to be triggered?

84, 85, 88....Lock center, lock upper, lock lower.

Quoted from zjg35:

So I did the switch test with the ball sitting in the lock and the "center lock" does register as closed.

I belivee 88 should be the lower lock, where the ball rests. Center should be switch 85. So if they are wired wrong that might be it. It might be thinking the ball is locked in ball lock 2 spot, which isn;t correct, and kicking it out?

Interesting. I wonder if the seller had it apart and wired it back up wrong.

That';s exactly what I think.

So, lift the playfield up (watch your balls ), the optos probably have little molex connectors coming out of the top connecting them...there are a million of them in TZ. Easily pull apart & easily hooked up wrong, probably just have 2 mixed up.
No metal tools, leave in switch test mode, see what happens when you physically push the bottom switch wit your hand. If it doesn;t say lower lock that's probably wrong & there's probably a few molex connectors right near there.

Well the lower lock will hold the ball. if you stick another ball up there you should trigger the middle lock, then one more should trigger upper lock.

Switch 88 lower lock locks liek wires are colored Green/Gray & White/Grey
