I replaced the batteries of my TZ less than six months ago and when switched on the machine I got the dreaded "Bookkeeping Total Cleared and Factory Settings Restored" message. I measured the batteries and they were indeed drained, between 1.2 and 1.3 volts. What could have caused this fast drain?

The machine was not played a lot, does it drain more when it is turned off or on?

Diode D2 is shorted or leaking.

Thanks for the quick response LTG, but reading the pinwiki it says D1, which makes sense because the machine was turned off for a while. I probably replace them both, just to be sure.

Doesn't TZ have a clock that has to keep running for Midnight Madness, or am I thinking of a different machine?

Midnight madness has nothing to do with this. Every game keeps track of time when turned off. And TZ doesn't have the playfield clock running when the game is turned off.

TZ has a playfield clock that only works in attract mode to show the time, not a midnight madness mode.
