Two rare Gottliebs battle it out-which one prevails as the victor and why?

Pricing for these two is also getting closer as TX-SECTOR has trended upwards quickly

    #3 40 days ago

Both are fun games with good sound + lightshows whose code is a bit lacking. I find spirit's playfield more interesting though, and the multiball start is cooler

I've had both Spirit and TX Sector in my collection. TX Sector is still here and not likely to leave any time soon.

Both are great games from one of my favorite designers, John Trudeau. He's a favorite game designer and a least favorite human being.

My two biggest complaints about spirit are:

    1. Some parts are no longer available.
    2. As a wide body, Spirit game play can be floaty.

I put two powerballs in my TX Sector and I still love playing it in a rotating, 25 game collection.

I was hoping you would chime in-looking for people who have enjoyed both and have feedback. Spirit intrigues me with the dual levels and TX-SECTOR fascinates me with the layout and sound package. Both awesome games I would like to explore more

TEXAS-Sector has got the beats (seriously the soundtrack just slaps) and that weird one more game quality that a lot of those Premier games do.

Spirit is neat to see just because it's rare.

Hey man, you are always welcome to stop over for some games.

I'm sorry Spirit is no longer here for you to try, but someone offered me stupid money and you know how that goes. It was a beautiful example too.

However, my TX Sector is rock solid and always up and running should you be in my area.

I may have to go out and get a DO-RAG and some good palmed gloves and take you up on that one-can I come over and just nod my head to the tunes?

No seriously TX-SECTOR has some serious tunes. I wonder if it is the #1 in terms of sounds? Hell this video is getting close to 30k views-not too shabby for a pinball music video

FYI. I bought a piece of wide body glare glass for my Spirit thinking it would fit. The glass was both too short and too narrow for that machine.

This is a good question to ask. I'll give the nod to TX for both the sound and that if set up right it will kick your ass. Spirit is a longer playing game especially with the outlane saves and the art package is absolutely fantastic. (Although everytime I've played one I've sucked at it) Both great games!

The Pringles Man for the win. TX-Sector...

    #13 40 days ago

Visually, I like spirit quite a lot more.

I haven't had much game time on either title, but I found TX a little challenging, but spirit was way too easy. I eventually just had to let the ball drain and walk away otherwise the game probably could've gone on for ages.

I agree and the look of the game has always attracted me. There is something about the backglass art that really stands out. I played a few games at Mr68's but did not know what I was doing and would like to dig deeper into it. I have played TX multiple times and every time I play it-I really enjoy it.

I keep doing double takes and squinting my eyes-Is that a girl or a guy?-I can't tell!

When I glance by at the TX -Sector translite, I see mustache and bowl cut hair .

Then look at a Pringles can lol.

    Edit: Older Pringles art.

Ah-I thought you were referring to the flyer

The translight on TX does have the weird factor but does not stand out much

I did not realize how cool the backglass really is on Spirit and how it spins?

Love Todd's videos and this one is one of his old school one's-I love his explanations...

Love the lower tone bass sounds in Spirit-may be a great game to add an external sub to. The layout and rules look cool as well

1230 machines made-where did they all go?

Tx Sector all day and twice on Sunday!

I don't know they both look stellar to me. I think part of the problem is the rarity of Spirit-have many people really put some good time on one? TX-Sector seems a lot more common and I see them come up often for resale. It looks like Spirit may have more depth? I actually dig wide-bodies with the amount of shots and paths.

Right now regardless of price if I was offered either one-I am leaning towards Spirit-change my mind!

As I've already stated, T-X Sector was my real world choice between the two, but you really can't go wrong with either one. Both very desirable and for a lot of good reasons.

My understanding is they pretty much all went to Europe, making it quite the commodity over here.

The below is an old post from the late Steve C (who knew all things gottlieb) and based on that even 10 years back you might be looking at maybe a couple hundred out there?

"They made over 1200 Spirit's but I don't think many have survived through time. The Pinball Owners Database only lists 52 Spirit owners, 8 of which are in the USA. After looking at my list of USA owners that I'm aware of, there are an additional 9 of them not registered. The internet Pinball Serial Number Database only lists 17 Spirits. From the data, I must assume that most Spirit owners don't want to bother with registering their games for some reason or another.

The European market is where a large percentage of them were sent but I hear they are hard to find there now as well, especially since a few of them were exported back to the USA. I know there are more out there but how many more is becoming the big question. All the one's I know of are now in the hands of collectors that have had to look long and hard for them so they're not likely to sell. Mine isn't going anywhere, even after I'm gone, it's already got a new home planned.

For those looking for a Spirit, good luck with your quest.

    Steve"

I've never found Spirit that interesting, but that era Gotts are not high on my list.
It has a lot going on in it with cool shots & flippers etc....but overall just meh. Certainly the most overpriced game i can think of; even more than Stargazer.

Oh I can think of lots of games that I consider overpriced games. So Spirit is what around $8000-$9000+/- because of it's rarity, etc. Meanwhile games like Fathom in your collection I consider overpriced for what they are. Fathom is a great looker and the art is spectacular but I would take Spirit game play over Fathom any day of the week. BTW-the most overpriced game is JJP Pirates CE

Too bad you are not into Gottliebs-you are missing out big time

Fathom is like half that. Or if its more that's good as I am looking to sell it. Doesn't have the staying power for me.

Ha, but obviously true on Pirates. That's just so stupid I didnt even think aboot it.

Looks like Classic Stern Iron Maiden has moved up to the top as well.
