What a cool looking game! Not the game I was thinking of at all when you asked if I had ever played one last weekend. I think I was thinking of spectrum.
Love that guys videos too, after Hanks repair tips he's the funniest guy in pinball.
Played it at PAPA for the first time this past weekend after appreciating its groovy tunes for some time now. Fun game, totally 80s sci-fi. Love it.
side note >> my cabinet is pretty rough. If anyone knows of a decent cab in this same style or someone that can remake me a new cab in this same style please let me know.
Took me a while to find one, it will probably be longer till I actually set it up too!
I fell in love with it at PAPA 3 years ago in the A division. A rare pin indeed!
I own a whole bunch of Gottlieb system 80B games and a TX-sector amongst them. Like it a lot. Genesis is my personal favorite for Gottlieb system 80B but TX-sector comes into 2nd place. Great sound, great ramp shot. Mine has the lighter area between the slingshots. Too bad Gottlieb didn't proceed with the vitigraph playfields.......
Love my TX Sector but it was my "Money Pit". It took a lot to get it 100%. I also have a alternative translight on it that a friend gave me. I took it to Rocky Mtn Showdown this year to give it a good test and it won most unique in show. The sound is the best esp for this era game.
Quoted from Elevatorman:I love my TX Sector! It's in great overall shape! It has to be one of if not the best sounding machines ever made!Robowar is right up there with it,great game and absolutely phenominal sound!
Check out my nice little combo which are practically bolted to the floor!Yes - my idea exactly.
Love my RoboWar - $488 CL find summer of 2012 - and now it never leaves - too good a game. The search goes on for not only a TX Sector, but one with the purple toned Vitagraph playfield.
Someday--
Quoted from Tsskinne:Want to join the club, anyone selling?
sure... 10k and you can have mine.
If you were looking to buy a TX you just missed your chance at a beautiful and unique whitewood tx which Gerry had put together about a year ago. I believe it just sold this morning according to another thread, and to a guy who has machines on location near Phoenixville PA so there's a small chance it could be out in public every now and then.
I've been bringing my TX to York and Allentown each year since I got it a few years back and people generally love the game. The game isn't difficult nor fancy and there's no real goal in multiball but the play is unique and the sounds absolutely rock! I don't generally bling out my games but LEDs really add a decent light show to this title which accompany the sounds well. I'll keep bringing it until it starts to fall apart or someone offers me a sick amount of cash for it because these games were meant to be played, not hide in someones basement as a collectible. I figure the day I sell it is the day nobody will ever get to play it again other than the owner since I've found that most people are too concerned about damage to ever bring their own games out for public free play. <somewhat related rant> If you buy a game which was out for free play at a show, is it really going to kill you to let others play it for the rest of the day you selfish SOBs?</rant>
Best of luck in finding your own TX but you should at least be able to play one at Allentown or York for a few more years. Ok, that's my one post for the year. TX is a great game!
I took mine to MGC last year and after a full restoration of the inside I will likely take it back so you can cone play one there also
Can any owners chime in and tell what size coil is for the single drop target in front of the left ramp?
Quoted from MarAlb:It has 2 coils. The (big) resetcoil is an A5195. The 2nd (small) tripping coil is an A18642.
Thanks Mar!
Just found a TX sector here in the Cleveland area a month ago and I found a Robo War here about 8 months ago!! Both are next to each other and they battle it out for Best sound!!
A question for fellow TX owners.
My RoboWar top panel is hinged, allowing easy backglass/translite removal.
But my TX isn't hinged on top, and the upper score panel and backglass/translite MUST be installed simultaneously. Is your game the same?

Yup. I don't know what they were thinking when they did that?
Thanks for the feedback guys. Indeed...what were they thinking?

Yep... stupid design.
I have another question for you owners:
The initial shot from the ramp... If you do a hard plunge are you able to routinely hit the right ramp from the left flipper; likewise, soft plunge and hit that captive hole above the right ramp?
I always have trouble with that initially and really only able to make it by hitting that tunnel to that left spot target. Almost like I need good ball momentum to make that shot.
Started my restore process a few weeks ago. I have had my tx for about 3 years since i bought it and havent touched it until now. Just wait till you see what I do with this baby. Hint...shaker motor. Also notice anything different in backbox photo? My Genesis will now have a neighbor ☺
speaker upgrades?!?
Please let me know where you found cab stencils to redo art? I would like a set.
Are you doing anything with the lighting in the backbox?
I thought it would be cool to have some sort of flashers in the backbox when you teleport on the playfield.
Yes, and Yes!
Quoted from Schusler:You flip flopped the display.
I was never a big fan of the speakers at the top on some of the Gottliebs. Just looked a bit top heavy to me. I know some like to stick to the nostalgia of it all but I want to make it pleasing to my eye ya know!

Schusler I have big plans for the back box seeing as how that translight is so..."different" for a better choice of words (lol). I was thinking that exact same thing about the backbox lighting and teleport period. Im going to do a separate light panel as in the williams games.

Hey "whysnow" I am definitely upgrading the sound system including a 12 inch woofer and amp as in my Dr. Who restore. Not sure what I will do with the side art...may change it altogether or see if I can have it reproduced at a graphics shop...stay tuned .

I would LOVE to buy a new cab art stencil or decal for the lettering.
Please let me know if you opt to go that route, as it may help with cost if getting more than 1.
I'm in the process of restoring my TX-Sector playfield to acceptable quality. After some big disappointments, it's starting to look pretty nice.
I started out with this. Some typical Gottlieb wear by the flippers. Apart from that and some wear by the upper flipper, the playfield was decent.
The starting point
Because of the flipper damage and the mylar above it getting dull, I decided to clearcoat the playfield. So I pull off the mylar...
Mylar removal: BAD MOVE!
Quite a lot of paint came with the mylar. OUCH. Lesson learned: do not use the hair dryer/Goo Gone method on an 80b-playfield. Or better: don't touch the mylar at all.
That was about a year ago. Last week, I had some time off and have repainted the damaged areas. After that, I started clearcoating the playfield with Spraymax. Not a high-end restoration by all means, but I'm pretty happy with where I'm getting. These pictures were taken after 2 layers of clearcoat:
Clearcoating 1
Clearcoating 2
Clearcoating 3
I'll post some pics again when the machine is back in one piece.
And... it's back on track! Yesterday I finished shopping my TX-Sector. The machine really came out nice. With the smooth clearcoat and all the stuff going on on the playfield, you really don't notice the touch ups.

I consider myself lucky that the machine came out so nice. Things looked very different when I first took the original mylar off some time ago and lots of artwork decided to stick to the mylar instead of the playfield... (see pictures in the above post).
