So i picked this up a month or so ago, primarily as i needed another game for board testing whitestar repairs, but also because this is one of my favourite films of all time. Yes i know its a bit cheesy, but i like it!

IMG_1336 (resized).JPGIMG_1336 (resized).JPGIMG_1338 (resized).JPGIMG_1338 (resized).JPG

I am also starting another dmd rewrite using all the knowledge and code base from my other rewrites. It also gives me a chance to do more testing on my new controller board and raspberry pi setups.

IMG_1793 (resized).JPGIMG_1793 (resized).JPG

This is going to be a long slow process again just like indy is, but i thought i would start the thread and the clock! I will share pics of the dmd colourisation and screens/sprites/frames as i sort them out here and then some vids as i get further along. Don't expect it to be completed quickly though!!!!

Also a good part of the whirlwind rules set will be updated and used in here to.

The first thing and what i've been spending most of my time on recently is a full playfield strip down and restoration. I want the game to be as new before i delve to far into the rewrite. Plus i haven't done a full excessive restoration for awhile so am enjoying sorting it out, when i want a break from pcbs assembly

IMG_1647 (resized).JPGIMG_1647 (resized).JPGIMG_1648 (resized).JPGIMG_1648 (resized).JPG

Along the way of this restoration it has also led me to remake the magnet processor board! Yep, i am adding this to my portfolio of pcbs. The one i have is pretty knackered although does work, i'm not sure really for how much longer. People who follow me on instagram will have seen me chatting about this already (@mypinballs). I will create a quick thread specifically for this pcbs separately to, but here's the first pass at a new design for the board using mosfets and other generic updates i put in most of my boards (power leds, reset switch, reset led, reduced component count where possible, all plate through parts etc etc)

Some sneak peaks from the graphics recreation

See my latest instagram post for the first video of code working. This took awhile to get going but i have the animated background for the score display working now. Sega display graphics are so much more involved than wms! The detail on them is often overlooked i think. Possibly the best background animation ever A full few evenings on this to get here.

Great project. I have nearly finished shopping (not total restore) of my Twister and have spare decors for some places if you need them.

Great to see yet another Applecjuice-project! I'll even forgive you for liking the Twister-movie
It'll be nice to (once in a while) follow this project. Good luck, and have fun!

Very cool. I am about to tear down a Lost in Space. Cant tell by your pic but on most Sega you cant get to the bulbs from below which can be a pain. Your twister will look great when finished.

Where did you find a full new plastic set? And do they have another one?

Looking forward to seeing this. Good motivation for my own.

Now turning my attention to the backboard

fullsizeoutput_c2a (resized).jpegfullsizeoutput_c2a (resized).jpeg

Really wish i could add some flashers and lamps behind this, but the plastics is made from black moulded plastic. I could get a new backboard made (the wood part) with some holes for flashers and lamps like on whirlwind, but not sure what to do about the plastic part as its black and wont show the lamps through. Wish there was a way to get this remade in clear and painted.

Anyone got any ideas, or want to make a new one?

You could make a silicone mold using the original part. Then cast a new one using a clear urethane plastic.

What happened to this?

#16 5 years ago

If you have any more info I would love a new magnet board and color dmd.

Nothing happened, other than being super busy making all sort of pinball products and rewriting games. I am still working on this, but its a full rewrite from the ground up so will take time as i can't work on this full time unfortunately.

I can add you to the magnet board order list no problem.

As for the dmd. There is no colour dmd product. I am rewriting the game from the ground up using new hardware and code which includes recreating all the graphics in colour, but this doesn't run on it own and not using the original whitestar cpu.
