Hey guys, so I turn twister on the main title screen appears on dmd then goes blank. The GI lighting works but that's it. Game won't boot and dmd won't stay on. I've checked fuses and reseated roms. Any thoughts? Thankyou
Check around the batteries on the MPU. Any leakage, past or present?

This pin has given mW trouble since I bought it couple years ago. Magnets haven't ever worked I'm just about ready to part with it.
Power down, and then reseat the connectors on your Whitestar boards.
Also, check for any loose wires on the connectors. (IDC connectors are fairly cheap and crappy, and it's not unusual to experience some intermittent issues as a result of them.)
What LEDs are 'on' each board?
Wondering if you have all the voltages.
Snap/post a picture of the boards?
also, if i undo the ground/5v from the dmd and plug back in the dmd goes on for a second with the main twister screen with version then goes black again. i can repeat this over and over but it doesnt stay on.....

That's normal operation when the CPU isn't communicating with the display driver board. You'd see the same result in a working game if you pulled the data ribbon cable.

Are any LEDs blinking?
Have you measured the 5V test point on the MPU?

Two things I see. First, I've never tried booting a WS board without any sound ROMs. I'm not sure it's possible. If Chris or someone else has successfully done so it would be good to know but you might want to get a set in there to be sure.
Second, the sound RAM at U4 looks like it may be installed incorrectly. I can't make out from the photo what it is but if it's a 5116/6116 and it's jumpered for that. it should be even with the top of the socket, not the bottom. As a result it may be bad.
Also interesting this board looks like it never had a battery holder unless it was clipped by someone previously - again hard to tell from the photo because of the grain. Does the serial number on the sticker on the board match the S/N of the game?

That is a sharp eye Viperrwk.
Since I assumed that this happened "all of a sudden", I didn't even look at that.
@pinsrus...you'll need to address the first two points vip made.

pinsrus, what is the 5 volts measuring? You stated it is good, but 4.70 to 4.75 volts may or may not allow it to boot.
I noticed in your picture that the LED 204 does not appear to be lit up. So the machine may not have completed booted up. Possibly either due to low 5 volts or the sound ROMs missing (just as Viperrwk stated).
Have you tried to add 6 credits to the game and then hitting the start button? Since you don't have a battery on the MPU board I don't see it being in Free Play. Possibly even it could be set up from the factory settings to take 2 or 3 credits per game.
Wow that's ridiculous lol, I have no clue where the sound roms are. I was working on the spinning mag disc issue with a friend months ago. I basically turned my back on it out of frustration but recently went back at it again. I'm thinking I gave them to him to try and copy and totally forgot about it but I'm not positive. Either way I just ordered all new ones. And yes your right that ROM in the pic is not right I had swapped it thinking it was in wrong position but none the less I'm sure that rom is fried as well. The volt is 4.95ish so I think that's ok. As far as the battery holder I took that off as I have a off the board replacement I need to put on but I did work fine before without it just had to add credits. I'll keep you guys informed if I find the old ones of get the new ones. Can't believe I didn't see that, good to have extra eyes on it. Thanks again guys
So then sound never worked on this machine either?
Hopefully we will help get your magnets working too. Though, does your drop target work correctly?
If it doesn't I don't think the ball lock magnet for the disc will work properly from what I see with my machine.
Sound ROMs aren't needed to boot a Whitestar CPU. In fact, there's very little in the sound section that will keep the CPU from booting. Not sure about the mis-placed RAM, remove it and try, it will boot without the sound RAM.

There was sound, but at some point I had removed them and I'm not sure where they ended up. New rams are on the way so hopefully that will fix it or narrow down the issue. And the drop target when it worked, worked fine it seemed.
Consider either installing a NVRAM (to eliminate the battery pack) or install lithium batteries instead of regular alkaline batteries.
