Deeproot HQ auction results news drop!

We've got some documents that provide an overview of what the auction brought in and who bought what for what.

Overall net sales were $598k of which $512k went to the trustee account.

I've attached three of the four court docs related to this stuff.

What I've not attached: the 43-page doc that lists out every lot, the winning price, and who it went to. This is the most interesting doc. Unfortunately, we aim to not post docs that include home addresses of non-businesses and this one does.

If anyone is willing to go through the doc to redact that info and post a revised version, please let me know and I'll gladly send it your way. Definitely a lot of good content I'm sure people would enjoy reviewing.

Chris Turner buying up significantly more than just Robert's insurance assets

Maybe Robert was inspired by this guy?

I may have missed some.

However, he bought both RAZAs. And the lot of four pinball cabinets. Basically, all of the most expensive game stuff.

And multiple former employees + common sense say he has to have the RAZA code (and any other game code that was ever produced).

It's interesting.

Maybe going for deeproot 2.0/zidware3.0/fancyofficesnacks2.0???

#30859 1 year ago

This is outrageous. It's clear Chris Turner is a proxy for Mueller. So Mueller is buying back is own assets from the bankruptcy. Wonder where he has the money for it. Oh that's right he stole a bunch from old ladies.

#30860 1 year ago
Quoted from Richthofen:

I don't think it *is* clear.

It's certainly *suspicious*, but without additional info, it's a conclusory leap.

This could instead be an insider just taking advantage of the situation.

I think the RAZAs could probably be worth a fair amount more with working code on them. Without working code, their value was likely significantly diminished. Maybe the plan is to install the code and flip them for profit?

#30861 1 year ago

So what do you think the next iteration of Zidware/deeproot will be called? TuYo Pinball? TriBall? TryBall?

Hopefully not as many people fall for it…yet again

Snack box boy isn’t about to make a pinball company and I don’t see why any existing company would want these scraps. What a waste of money

Quoted from Richthofen:

The more logical assumption is that because turner logic made the code, it makes financial sense to buy the machines and sell them as working for far more than he paid from the auction. Whether he decides to build any additional games beyond the 2 complete-ish prototypes is the real question, but I doubt Robert has anything to do with this business venture.

#30863 1 year ago

Even if Turner is in possession of the code, one assumes it is the property of the bankrupt LLCs and an asset to be liquidated by the trustee, no?

That’s assuming deeproot owned the code and it wasn’t licensed to them

I do/would assume that. But I suppose one never knows with this zany pinball adventure.

Eh, the same could be said of the artwork on the game and all the other parts in the auction.

The value would be in the licensing of the artwork/software for using it in new products.

If the code gets installed on the games, I would guess that the most it would potentially be is copyright infringement, but I don't see the bankrupt LLCs pursing that since a copyright case would cost $$$, and the likelihood of an award of damages would probably be iffy. So, pursuing a case would likely be a losing endeavor if the goal is to claw back as much money as possible.

I would guess that if there are legal/copyright/licensing issues, the seller could claim that there was a problem in the game that he "fixed", and the auctioneer (or bidders) weren't able to diagnose the problem during the preview period, maybe since they weren't "experts" in the game. That might get around potential legal/licensing/copyright issues and would be quite difficult to disprove unless someone took the time to dump/inspect the memory storage on the games and documented it, or took photos of the storage device showing zero space used.

Another item of note from the auction results:

David van Es picked up several lots for Barrels of Fun, LLC, an outfit incorporated just short of a year ago (https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_tx/0804073800).

Haven't heard much about van Es since his departure from Spooky. Seems a talented guy. Wonder what we'll see from him and BoF. Wishing both success.

Realistically, does anyone really think Chris Turner is going to 'finish' RAZA? RAZA couldn't even be finished with 68 million in retiree money, never mind by some code jockey with a snack business. That he'd blow tens of thousands or more on prototype equipment to try to flip them after some software tweaking for how much? There's no reviving selling RAZA, even when deeproot seemed legit they couldn't sell 100 games. The only reason he'd buy the RAZA prototype is so that Mueller can sell it to a greater fool or flat out just sell to a "collector". I guess there are collectors of nonworking clunkfests (see Magic Girl) out there.

Chris Turner is a proxy for Mueller. Even if Chris wrote the RAZA code why is he buying up life insurance? He's buying up Life Insurance policies and Mueller's RAZA wreck because Mueller is backchanneling it somehow. It's a way for Mueller to get deeproots remaining valuable assets without any of its debts, kinda like he did with Zidware. Mueller is shameless and probably not done with underhanded dealings. Prison can't come soon enough for him.

#30873 1 year ago

TBH I don't care if Chris Turner tries to make and sell RAZAs. If he didn't learn how hard it is to make pinball before, he deserves whatever failure is about to happen.

Just hope they don't sucker some other pie in the sky pinball enthusiasts that drastically underestimate the manufacturing complexities.

Code, while it can be challenging, is relatively easy compared to manufacturing a physical product with hundreds of parts. If Turner wants to noodle away, then so what.

Quoted from Richthofen:

As I said before, this is speculation, not fact. If you actually have proof to back this up, I would recommend that you present the evidence to the appropriate lawyers.

Rich was the first one to call this an out and out scam without hedging his bets, YEARS before everybody else caught on. I'd say he's entitled to make whatever bold claims he wants!

There is only one logical conclusion: Chris Turner met up with Greatwhich John for discussions of bringing RAZA to reality. 29 beers later they established the newest underground pinball company.

#30877 1 year ago

I have had no talks with Chris Turner. But maybe he has something going on with Jpop. None of what I have seen bought has been from 1 serious party looking to get into production, & the other party was turned off by the high risk of trying to salvage anything from deeproot pinball. Anyone who bought up playfields, cabinets, or parts has not contacted me to move forward. I will be at my booth at Pintastic show to promote EZ Pinball cabinets. Meet with industry people & see if I can move into production again for pinball parts. Feel free to stop by & talk pinball. Donations of free beer gladly accepted at the show since everyone knows us Canadians love to drink beer!

interesting? Hell this adds a new chapter to the screenplay and elevates Chris Turner to major player status. I want to be cast as him, he seems evil and CONniving and with many secrets to discover. This could be my breakout role. If this films in Maui, I know of a confiscated condo I could rent.

If the condo gets listed on the market, YOU should bid on it, Blueberry. You are already searching for the casting couches too, right?

Kauai.

Pretty sure I found the condo many months back. Should go back to that to see if anything's changed with it.

Anyone can reach out to me about pinball production, & or parts production. Going through my personal bankruptcy, & enjoying my retirement. Anything towards pinball production will be done by me locally. My wife still has her parents, & my brother is in Austin, Texas. So if I were to get involved with a major pinball company in Texas, Multimorphic p3 would be a logical choice. Thank god I did not get employed at deeproot.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say a gigantic thread about a scamming, failed, dumpster-fire company is probably not the ideal place to advertise your services.

It would not surprise me if Jpop continues on. Too many weird things going on with the auction. Like I said the one new upstart I was talking to seemed like they had a game plan for the future. You would think Chris Turner has a plan of using the stuff he got with a group that could get this done. Pinball manufacturing is extremely hard, but the guys I was talking to seemed to know the risks & to start off with low production. There is lots of money in Texas, so you could find a group to invest, & possibly use as a tax loss during start up.

After RM could not sell 100 RAZA with the image of tens of millions behind him… you think he believes he can still make money with this corpse if he just tries again behind some other image?

Nah… i think the guy has got bigger fish to fry trying to dodge prison and keeping his hidden stashes intact. He’s gotta have more lucrative schemes in mind than just repeating himself
