Quoted from yancy:I asked this question sincerely, to no one in particular, and got a PM telling me it was because "he didn’t talk enough. But then you know that already don’t you?" Capped off with "you people piled on him."
I won't dignify the PM with a direct response, just thought I'd share with the class. Also won't say who sent it, "but then you know that already don’t you?"

Quoted from Stuieb84:

* the pinballs are then auctioned off by a liquidator appointed by SEC to recover losses to creditors.

we don't know if the pinballs were even seized by anyone. For all we know, they could be in RM's garage. I'm sure he had time to prepare, as it looks like he knew about the investigation for some time. The Feds know nothing about pinball, much less pinball in pieces.......it would cost money to move them, to store them, and the return is chump change compared to what is missing. The more likely scenario is that Rm will try and peddle what he has stored away to pay attorney fees.....

Quoted from benheck:

IP? Gimme a fucking break. IP is only valuable if it's known to SELL. Slap Scooby-Doo or He-Man on a lunch box and it will sell... Because it has decades of sales behind it.
It doesn't matter how good the animations for Food Truck are or how cute Yukon Yeti is - if the public has no history with it then it's worth ZERO.

Gwj mentioned “selling his business”… i have no idea why anyone would ‘buy’ a one man operation cutting playfields… and contracting the big parts… but skipping that… this seems to be the mythical group of businesses that he keeps eluding to getting into pinball.

If you are dumb enough to buy a basement playfield operation you maybe are dumb enough to pay for jpop and his continuing failures? Or paper designs drawn by past greats?

He's a paragon of business... Who declared bankruptcy.

Yeah let's take advice from him.

I think one lesson out of all the others here is obvious.

Canadian Johns are ride or die.

Bad news for JPop is the overseas league - i.e. Japanese Pachinko - is in decline. Maybe Dave and Busters is hiring ticket counters.

That is very unusual no ? I mean he sold his business but still needed to declare bankruptcy anyway. Sounds more like fire sale unfortunately.

When I was 12, I actually drew a paper drawing of a layout and sent it in to Williams. Started on a foam core. Even got a personal letter from one of their designers which I saved somewhere. When I finally retire maybe some new pin company can hire me since I seem to have the requisite “designer” talent

Ah so John flagged his own Wikipedia page.

But he's not a scammer! Just needs management!

#25313 2 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Since we are now on at least THREE "rich" backers (Pintasia, AP, Deep Root) who have bought into this at one point or another after it already spectacularly failed at least once (not talking about all the rich people who actually BOUGHT zidware games, literally; they are up for Mensa nominations as well) I think I may have to beg to differ.
There are tons of dumb rich people. You can literally be born rich and that don't take brains. You can get lucky. You can be a dumb criminal who somehow manages to steal $58 million. You can be "smart" and rich and still do dumb things.
As completely loony tunes as Greatwhich comes off in his daily happy hour posts, there's definitely a kernel of truth in his rants. Wouldn't surprise me at all if some other rich genius bought into it in the future.
rich = smart? Not buying it. Read the posts here daily and you'll put that thinking on Ice

Hell I know a lotta rich guys that are dumb as a box of rocks and they weren't born rich.

So I want to make sure I'm keeping this story straight now though. Theres a set of people who think Jeff at TWIP is being "blackmailed" by DR detractors? Wow. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

It will disappear like a fart in the wind because it's nonsense. There's likely one person - not a cabal - of aggreived disposition that was fn with Jeff.

Nobody knows for sure who sent him threatening messages and it really doesn't matter. If he lays low for a week they will disappear, and when he comes back in a few months with the next TWIPPY ballot they won't return. Declarations of TWIP's death are greatly exaggerated.

Most anonymous hate mailer / hate callers have extraordinarily short attention spans. I speak from personal experience.

Quoted from greatwichjohn:

Deeproot is finally dead except for any assets being sold & IP. I try to say that JPOP will likely find another job doing pinball work. 4 failures & likely the 5th will be his final return. Do not know why that gets so much hatred here, & I feel bad for all his customers, suppliers, people that worked with him at Zidware, & those companies that thought they could move forward with him.
Until we hear more insights from those that really know anything. I will go with JPOP just being another poor designer with some games developed. Do not think he was the mastermind or in control of Robert at Deeproot Pinball. Unfortunately the Deeproot saga is not likely over for years.

It's the blind leading the blind... leading the blind.

Who else blackmail and threatens other than a mob?

Sorry we disappointed you Benny. I know you loved so much seeing other people lose money. I lost mine in 2014 and then wrote it off.
Nope. Some in the hater MOB here threatened TWIP, anonymously of course.
Maybe you since you have non stop DR posting derangement syndrome.
Comments were directed at Jeff here for NOT uncovering the fraud sooner and being too positive towards DR

Fake news. Not surprising. As usual you make things up as you go along, to suit your narrative, which is usually wrong or, worse, purposely misleading. Play better. Or something you’ll relate to more easily: Be Best.

Funny, ForceFlow had been updating his Wikipedia page. I wonder of Robin can lookup 98.239.50.169 to see which Pinsider was vandalizing the Wikipedia page.

expo is in 2 months. john's zidware page is up, you should send him an email and tell him you want to have a coffee. i guarantee it will only take about 15 minutes to get a different impression of how he is in person.

Better yet, tell John you’d really like to invest in AIW, and make a good faith down payment. And watch him give you his PayPal.

Actually I operated my business for many years from my large basement. When I sold the house went in with a commercial workshop. Hard to believe but many people actually lose money in pinball parts production. I sold my business to a new group that was interested in what I was doing. Sold at a loss in order to make sure all my vendors paid in full & those Seawitch customers made whole. Some people do not make decent money at their day job, & my wife has not worked for many years to health reasons. Some of you guys are cold, wish you never have to have next to nothing financially! Just like the poor suckers scammed of their money with Robert.

Drinking some beer tonight since I got my shitty pension check. As for Deeproot Pinball Robert was too stupid to even get a roller system installed. Should of got lines installed along with his stupid 2 person work benches. Have parts standing close by on the shelves, & what was needed at the quad or octo stations. Many other things that I can even figure out. Even JPOP is not that stupid, if you look at his past. JPOP is just too lazy to actually get things done.

how bout I pay you a compliment?

You ran a BUSINESS out of your existing basement.
JPOP squandered a million dollars producing nothing out of his 3,000 square foot zidware building

Did we ever get a timestamp or any metadata from those vacant deeproot office photos? Did someone notice a calendar showing Dec 2020?

Has anyone contacted the building owner and just *asked* how long it’s been vacant? If RM was a difficult tenant, I wonder if the leasing company might share some thoughts on the whole ordeal.

Nobody cares at this point. dr pinball was a scam, people here believed and hyped the scam. The SEC finally said enough. Rats are jumping ship and or rewriting history.

Both threads will surely just limp along, until the usual suspects find another shiny to pimp. Buyer beware...

I wouldn't put too much stock into someone being too lazy to replace a calendar. Parking snooper reported cars in the lot well into this year.

Telling though how much crossover there is between what Jim and Chris are both saying about artificial scarcity and value, about what you get for your money versus what you should expect, warnings of what may happen if the cycle continues unchecked, and now about the potential for microtransactions and the abuse thereof; these all being more universal to the core of the respective markets. Because 'pro-consumer' doesn't have to mean 'anti-capitalist'.

I see what you’re saying, but disagree— I think the timeline and context are still really interesting because they help us frame how RM was trying to be perceived at various points of hopelessness. Ex: were his emails and statements intentionally misleading, or was he still just foolishly bullish about his outlook.

I agree that there’s probably not much left to debate, but I still keep checking in on this thread because I find all the little details interesting. *shrug*
