So, is this the "Final five days of Deep Root?"

If RM is so smart, why not mine some gold and fund his 22 games?

He may have been correct when he stated he was a jack of all trades, but he didn't finish the statement, master of none.

How embarrassing.

#21052 2 years ago
Quoted from TreyBo69:

Hope to hear the story on both some day
I figured all those animators had to be doing more than some pinball cinematic.

Nope.

#21053 2 years ago

Dang…he really was paying a couple dozen people to make cutscenes for pinball games?

I gotta stop giving him what little benefit of the doubt I do give him.

Edit. I should have said paid some of the time to sometimes work.

#21054 2 years ago

They tried to offer the "Goodwill Deal" to people and have them sign off so they wouldn't get sued. Everyone didn't sign off, so are the rest of the people keeping the lawsuit going?

wow, just wow. dinosaurs, abe lincoln preserved head, a wizard and.. oh lets throw in an alien.. every game needs aliens.

remember when Keith joked of a monster trucks and dinosaurs pinball way before he made archer? this is sorta like that, except an artist actually spent some time on that.

I said it before - Ego is driving the bus. Then add arrogance and incompetence. Set up for failure at day 1.

Lord have mercy, you would be gobsmacked by the sheer number of full-time deeproot employees that have been hired to manufacture exactly zero pinball machines.

I always thought it was super sketch that he only showed their first names. No way to look up what their past work & credentials are. Might as well be stock photos.

I think it's just a fun drawing with lots of random characters and not that every character is meant to be something included in a pinball game.

I think.

I have no qualifications to judge (can barely draw a straight line), but it seems like the studios folk are capable of nice-looking work (which unfortunately will never make its way into real pinball machines).

And the people are in fact real people, many with findable portfolios. I won't post links or their linkedins here. That said, perhaps it would be doing them a service, since as you mention they aren't set up to get proper credit or promotion via their employer.

Fictitious job interview-

Ex-Deeproot Studio Artist: I used many cutting edge techniques and created some sexy graphics that could melt any cold-hearted, bastard’s heart, for a pinball company.

HR: A pinball company, you say. What is it called, maybe I’ve seen your pinball machine?

Ex-DR Studio Artist: It is called Deeproot and well, it is more of a concept. It’s an idea that there should be a pinball company like Deeproot in the world, but it is not really one. It’s president needed another $20M to actually build games and to grease the skids. Everything about the company looked ok from my perspective, until they quit paying me. Not just me, everybody and noone works for free. So I quit to find a real job, and that is what brings me here today.

HR: What’s the name of the sorry-assed president?

Ex-DR Studio Artist: It was more like a brain trust than a single man. We referred to the life force as - RM‘JPOP.

HR: It sounds awful.

Ex-DR Studio Artist: It was. RM built walls to keep anyone from coming and going and then served as The Gatekeeper. JPOP was toxic and he poisoned everything he touched and everyone within the company walls. Staff were doomed from the start, they just didn’t know it. It reminds me of the victims in Halloween or Friday 13th episode. You know a gruesome end is coming for each, but you can’t turn away nor couldn’t watch it soon enough.

HR: Were there any victims?

Ex-DR Studio Artist: It was a design house / virtual pinball manufacturing concept with a big legal department, so probably less than 200 people were screwed, in the end.

Quoted from Yoreland:The Latest:
Dear RAZA Customer:
We are sorry for the length of time without an update. We have been contacted by a few of you within the last few weeks. The main topics were how many people took the refund offer (3), is the refund offer still available (No), and what the status of the RAZA builds are.
A legal matter affecting RAZA arose around a month ago that we did not expect. We were advised by counsel to not send out any substantive communication while they worked to resolve it amicably. We have taken that advice while patiently waiting for it to be resolved. The back-and-forth has taken much, much longer than we expected. So we are providing this brief update so you understand what the delay is about.
We cannot discuss the parties or what the complaint is about. We cannot provide a timeline. What we can say is that we are working hard to resolve/settle it and we hope will be resolved very soon. We will be able to give a meaningful update at that time. Until then...

Rotflmao. In other words: “we’re disingenuous, full of shit and you guys are idiots”.

There is ZERO reason they couldn’t update on game parts, supply chain, production, UL,etc.especially if any future titles are planned. Wha a crock.

These guys are absolute buffoons.

Question for the legal eagles since we've seen not paying employees alleged several times: Isn't that illegal?

Quoted from Lounge:

Does anyone believe this “legal issues” argument?
DR is basically saying - ‘for the last 7 years that we’ve been working on RAZA we have just now discovered a “legal issue” with RAZA or the IP surrounding it, and we can’t ship games.’ It’s not even a licensed game. Does that make sense to anyone??
If it was a PPP issue, you could still build and ship games. At this point, the only thing preventing DR from building games is DR.

This a pure bullshit smokescreen. First of all, Robert claims it's a legal issue that "affects" RAZA. OK, build something else in the meantime. If everything Deeproot hinges or is depending on RAZA being built, sold and shipped, then Deeproot is Deep Sixed. The claim is there are other titles ready to be built.

Or, in reality, this legal issue "affects" everything and the welfare of anything ever being built hinges on this, then the whole fucking thing is really worrisome.

Robert purposely used the generic words affects & legal issue, never said there is a lawsuit on RAZA. I don't think this has anything to do with WC Brandes

Deeproot is nothing more than INDUSTRIAL-SCALE JPOP.

Spend tens of millions on art. Produce NOTHING. Hope someone buys the company/IP. Game Over.

Well, I mean, in case you haven't been tracking the multiple threads, it is becoming increasingly apparent that most people on this site will find a way to defend anything as long as they may be getting something out of it and it didn't directly impact them.

It’s just Mueller chasing ghosts so he can bill up 100’s of chargeable legal hours to the investors.

If you are being forced to self fund DR due to being cut off from use of 575 funds, its not a half bad strategy. Legal services on behalf of 575 to help protect the funds prior portion to DR. Brilliance !

Some of the raza folks are like Linus.

This time is different. They will make raza and we faithful will get the greatest game ever made.

You’ll see, jpop and Robert will reward us faithful with a game so awesome it will solve world hunger. You’ll see. This time is different. This time we will get our games.

Quoted from blueberryjohnson:

Question for the legal eagles since we've seen not paying employees alleged several times: Isn't that illegal?

You could submit a "Wage Claim" if you didn't get paid.
https://www.twc.texas.gov/jobseekers/how-submit-wage-claim-under-texas-payday-law

Wage Claim Process

TWC takes the following steps on a wage claim:

When we receive a wage claim, we mail an acknowledgement letter to the employee making the claim. The acknowledgement letter provides a brief overview of the wage claim process and notice of receipt of a claim.
We notify the employer by mail that a wage claim was filed and request a response from the employer. We send the employer an employer response form along with a photocopy of the claim and any supporting documents you submitted.
Once the wage claim investigation begins, an investigator may contact either party for additional information as needed.
Based on the investigation, TWC makes a decision in the case and notifies the employee and employer by mail. If either the employee or the employer disagree with the decision, each has rights to appeal.

Collection from Employer

Wage amounts awarded in wage claim cases are not drawn from state funds. Any monies due to an employee must be collected from the employer before they are disbursed.

If the money cannot be collected, TWC may file a lien as a permanent record of the debt owed to the employee by the employer. Any money collected on an employee’s behalf will be forwarded to the most current address on file with TWC. It is the employee’s responsibility to notify TWC in writing if his or her address or phone number changes.

For information regarding employers who have been found in violation of the Texas Payday Law and have active administrative liens of $2,000.00 or greater, please see Labor Law Liens.
