.... And because of the legal shelter to dodge the lawsuits from customers who didn't get their games

Wow.... THAT LOOKS GREAT.
Any prices, I can find them.

Beautiful freakin game.
$549 annual mbrsp is rough
If the Arcade is $6k and the xtra is $9500 they will sell.

No history bullshit, just going off the game design and initial look

I think $6k would sell for sure.

But is it $6k + $549 annual?

$50 a month for DLC??? So, you don't get all the game content without coughing up a big monthly service charge??? Dead in the water.

Its better value than Sterns topper model
Can’t argue current free code support

Stern-plastic pile of shit $1,000
DR- values as described $549

Funny you should ask! One of the most interesting pages from the staging deeproot website is one that at first appears completely uninteresting (since it's blank): https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:9R5Uy13ZJZcJ:https://drpb.turnerlogic.com/shop/machines/retro-atomic-zombie-adventureland/editions/). However, I just dug around in the source code and pulled the below info out from a customization section (note that this shouldn't be taken as official, though looks plausible):

4999 for a arcade version will blow the pinball market upside down, if it's true.

#13461 3 years ago

"I joined deeproot pinball because Robert’s vision and enthusiasm remind me of the same strengths that made companies like Apple Computers or Tesla Motors so cutting-edge and successful. ‘Quality is Number One and The Sky is the Limit’.

Quoted from pinballwil:

No it won’t.

People aren’t going to stop buying games they actually want with playfield designs that aren’t horrible just to save $400.

That topper will always add value to that machine though. The $549 service disappears.

Deeproot Platform (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:d7tmL_ZU9g4J:https://drpb.turnerlogic.com/about/platform)

deeproot Pinball has spent years developing unified platform of various technology systems, intellectual property, innovations, and offerings to suit the needs, desires, and experiences expected by pinball enthusiasts all over the world. Many of these are protected by US and international laws as filed for (or in the process of seeking) protected patents (see Patents [link]).

WE AREN’T DONE YET! We’ve only release about 60% of what we are currently working on. As we continue to innovate (and we will), we will continue to update this page to reflect the comprehensive deeproot Pinball platform.

Definitions
Ae – Arcade Edition
AE – Aural Envelope
GI – General Illumination
IP – Intellectual Property
WB – Williams and/or Bally
Xe – X Edition

Cabinet
Since WB games helped drive and inspire our Company’s vision of pinball, it is only fitting that we would want deeproot Pinball machines to look similar (or the same) when in a collection with the WB games we all love.

Let’s start with the cabinet body itself. While the dimensions vary slightly, we have chosen to stick close to the dimensions found in the ‘standard’ WB cabinet. We’ve kept the general shape of the cabinet in-tact, with side and front art areas and a familiar coin door. We are using high grade laminated Baltic birch and have reinforced the joints with a proprietary hybrid dove tail and special adhesive process. There are an option of two cuts to the right/left of the coin door for our audio upgrade.

The reinforced leg bolt receivers support standard legs. However, legs from deeproot include a special easy twist T-bolt to ergonomically make leg adjustments.

On the Ae, there is the familiar hinge bar linking the backbox to the main cabinet. On the Xe, a proprietary hinge and on two vertical floating channels provides the linkage and allow a full unimpeded view of the cabinet sides.

On the Ae, the backbox features our proprietary backlit panoramic wrap to display game art, with a Cylon-style grill with a 24” ultrawide hi-res display. Two main drivers are located below the display. On the Xe, the backlit panoramic wrap floats above a floating backbar, with two vertical support columns.

On all models a capped connector socket on the top of the backbox allows easy drop-in topper attachments, providing electrical, data, audio, etc. A simple retention system on either side keeps the topper firmly in please.

All models feature our proprietary hinged, assisted lift and drop, glass frame and lockbar seal. Your choice of standard glass or anti-reflective, fingerprint-resistant glass firmly seals inside the glass frame. A seal and lockbar locks the frame down into the cabinet and seals/protects the PinbarTM from accidental liquid spillage. An option is available to add GI lighting to the underneath of the glass frame for variable, diffused lighting of the playfield area.

Inside the cabinet we feature numerous componentry such as two power supplies, PC and components, up-fired speakers (for 4.1 audio option), a custom subwoofer and enclosure, an amp, and an options shaker motor. We have designed active airflow to minimize fan noise from the power supplies and PC CPU.

There are three options for the cabinet side panel art. The vinyl based wrap is common to most modern pinball machines. We upgraded our vinyl wrap with a gloss coating. The second option is a direct print on the wood with PinArmorTM coating providing high gloss, hammer tested protection. Our XtraTM limited edition games feature a backlit double printed PETG lighted panel.

Playfield
Our Baltic birch ply playfield comes standard with our proprietary and (only found with deeproot) PinArmorTM quality protection.

Audio Visual
Our two high resolution displays, the Backbar and PinbarTM, share the same ultrawide aspect ratio. The Backbar is a 24” non touch display and the PinbarTM is a 19” display with capacitive multi-touch overlay with reinforced glass.

Our custom audio system comes in two varieties, a 2.1 Audio System and a Full Range 4.1 Audio System with AE compatibility. The speakers are custom designed for our Pinball configuration and enclosed for high fidelity full range sound reproduction. The 4.1 configuration adds two up fired mid-range drivers on either side of the coin door which channel sound using the natural position of the players body, to the ears.

We plan to add three addition audio visual features in 2021. First, the AE system is expected to be enabled for all machines equipped with the deeproot Full Range 4.1 Audio System which will auto mix audio channels in loud and quiet environments to ensure that the most important sounds reach the ear. Second, we will add ambient light auto adjusting to all new games providing an auto balancing of light above and on the playfield, as well as all other backlit cabinet pieces to the environmental ambient light. Third we will add haptic feedback around the lockbar palm area for games in 2021 to provide even more important feel during gameplay.

Cool Features
There are several random finished touches we add to our games. Laser etching on our polished stainless steel XtraTM games provides aesthetically pleasing vibrant flare to otherwise high gloss metal.

Our one person setup convenience changes a safety issue into an easy safe way to set up or break down your machine. All deeproot machines come with the attachment plate already installed on the under carriage of the cabinet. The attachment plate should be compatible with a majority of other standard body machines. Once attached to the attachment plate, the appliance can be extended to guide the lowering of the front of the machine (from the seated position), lifting the back of the machine to install and bolt the rear legs, and vice versa. One done, the application can be stored underneath the machine, or removed.

A properly levelled playfield is essential to fun play experience. Our Assisted Leveling Guidance prompts you whether to raise or lower each of the four legs to put the playfield in the factory-preset 6.5 degree level position.

Our PinPodTM is the perfect storage and moving protective cocoon for your prized deeproot Pinball machine. It is made of strong wood ply, water resistant, collapsible, truckable, and forkable. Its metal latches provide vertical and horizontal strength to falls, tips, and items resting on top.

As a complement to the PinPodTM, we offer, as distributor for the XSTO brand, a unique hand truck with motorized step assist, braking, and tripod capabilities in a compact package.

Electrical
deeproot’s electrical system is custom made to deliver power and data to a demanding innovative pinball machine. The power system starts with a custom power supply delivering 12V, 24V, and 48V rails, and a separate ATX power supply for the PC motherboard. The 48V rail is distributed to each of our control boards where a separate 12V and 5V regulator is used to provide additional power to individual high power MOSFET driver boards. This allows us to power outputs with 5V, 12V, or 48V on demand. Board placement is meant to be space efficient to allow for ease of serviceability.

Our board connections and wiring harnesses eliminates nearly all soldering. This substantially reduces complexity in maintaining and diagnosing machine issue. In addition we tag most wires, and use printing on the under side of the playfield to identify key components and wiring schematics.

Both the sub system and the PinOS run on a minimum 4 core CPU @ 3.6 GHz with 8 GB ram, and an embedded video card. While this provides ample power for RAZATM, each release will be spec’ed to accommodate Unity performance. A separate board drives the PinbarTM and capacitive touch. We offer dual WiFi dongles to deal with the demanding internet online connectivity needs of omnichannel worldwide access.

Our pinball games are meant to be always on in order to take advantage of modern technology and online connectivity. Sleep mode when not in use (just like most other devices in your home) reduces electrical and power when not in use.

Software
There are many features in our software that we can’t disclose to protect our IP and integrity/security of our systems. But we can talk about some key elements that make up our development and update process.

Our PinRDE (Pinball Rapid Development Engine) is a point and click device to rapidly develop the core framework of a pinball title. All playfield assets, light animations, and script definitions can be rapidly developed or edited. Our PinOS is a multi-threaded framework engine that serves as a communications hub between our proprietary game engine script, Unity frontend, and our FMOD audio engine. All animations, sound, and interactivity on the PinBarTM are served by calls to and from the Unity engine. Updates and boot recovery software are served by Linux and lower level code. So what does all of this mean? It means that we could develop and code a game in mere weeks, rather than months or years.

We capture, record, and timestamp nearly every event that happens under the glass. This allows us volumes of data to enhance online offerings like shot log and scoring. It also assists with diagnosing or anticipating issues with the pinball machine.

With our worldwide omnichannel access, users can log in to any deeproot machine whether or not it is connected to the internet. Personal games preferences and/or saved game data can be loaded and scoring can be saved. We also have the ability to push updates by the minute, hour, day if we choose to, allowing you a hassle-free way to make sure your machine is always up to date.

We currently offer a simple admin and end-user security system. Access to machine settings requires a two-step authentication process. First is physical security by requiring the physical key and coin door are open. Second that a four-digit PIN is known and entered. Admins can also change the ‘Environment’ setting to Home Use (Private) or Event or Location Use (Public) that applies pre-set settings to protect your game. These affect access to settings and elements of log in and log out.

Three Model Approach
With the introduction of RAZATM, deeproot is also announcing the three editions that will conintue for all deeproot games over the next few years. The familiar package known as the Arcade Edition (Ae) is our budget version, but yet packed with more value than games 2-3x as costly. The X Edition introduces our floating backbar aesthetic with upgrades over the Ae. The XtraTM is just that. It’s a limited run, numerically sequenced, X Edition offering with all the extra luxury addons for a flat fee.

With these editions, we are focused on making customizing your pinball machine unlike any other pinball buying experience. Customization is easy and allows you to have power over your purchase and cost. While RAZATM features all three editions, most games will have one or two editions, but not all three.

PinbarTM and Framework
The PinbarTM is the most powerful, revolutionary innovation ever to be added to a Pinball machine. It takes the modern touch display used countless times a day on our smart phones, tablets, laptops, and kiosks, and creates a permanent blank canvas for us to expand pinball with infinite possibilities. It links the physical world to the digital. It opens doors to nearly endless new ways to interact with your pinball machine.

We want to challenge the last few decades of pinball by changing from a habit of walking up to a deeproot machine and saying, “Where is the start button?”; to walking up to any non-deeproot machine and saying “Where’s the Pinbar?”

The Pinbar’s development took years, with methodical consideration of thousands of engineering and GUI design concerns to make sure if we were going to tie a touchscreen to a pinball machine that we would get it right the first time. Some of the considerations that follow show how much engineering has to go in to adding a touchscreen to a pinball machine:

Aspect Ratio and Size must be perfect due to Hand Position and Apron
Matching Aspect Ratio with Backbar to minimize photo and animation scaling
Durability and impact analysis, and length of life of screen
Ease of replacement without a technician
Increasing ease of viewing screen information during Play, without having to look up and away at Backbar
Keep existing expectations / habits of touch interactivity (from other devices)
Keep screen content simple and uncluttered, with ability to add more for power players
Ability to start a game almost as quick as a traditional Start button, but add extra flexibility and options
Signal what to touch, how to touch it, and when not to touch … by preconceived expectations and visual intuition

So, why is the PinbarTM so Revolutionary? Here are couple of thought we have on the immediate impact the PinbarTM brings to the pinball experience:

Visibility… Eyes are usually focused between the Slingshots (above the flippers) and looking up at a screen on the Backbox is inconvenient. Looking down (more like ‘glancing’ down) is much more natural and easier to quickly capture information and enjoy the beautiful deeproot HUD and animations.

Aspect Ratio… Vertical display areas on the pinball machine are almost impossible without making it not pinball anymore. Most modern displays use horizontal real estate rather than vertical. Matching aspect ratios offer many benefits from a development perspective.

Input… The decades old 3 or 4 button control behind the Coin Door is archaic, very difficult to use for simple testing, maintenance, or tasks; and offers no flexibility, complexity, or dynamic content

Interactivity… Usually visual content or mini video-games can only be controlled by the existing flipper buttons (or adding an extra physical button) which substantially restricts interactivity, experiences, and features. A multi-touch hi-res screen provides unlimited and dynamic interactivity, just like your smartphone.

Ruleset and Content… The existing system does not allow robust, on demand, and flexible updating and customization of ruleset and content. A touchscreen is the perfect input/output canvas for a framework that allows unlimited ways to add new content on the fly, and seamlessly change the digital rules of a physical game.

Problem Solving… It is very difficult to diagnose and repair problems using the current pinball systems without having a prior extensive knowledge. The PinbarTM now allows more intuitive interaction to display and diagnose issues, as well as remote management and video chats

Not Approachable… Current pinball machines are simply not approachable to most people who expect demand interactive audio-visual experiences, just like their smartphone or tablet.

Innovative and Virtually Upgradeable… Because of the fixed, static ‘physical’ nature of existing pinball machines, there is no way to instantaneously and dynamically expand features or build upon the physical world. The PinbarTM changes that with interactive settings and upgradeable content using the unlimited virtual world.

PinApp
Our mobile iOS application, the PinApp, adds a mobile and easy way to take the deeproot experience with you, everywhere in the world! Not only can you log in to deeproot Games, but you can edit and view community profiles, and view leaderboards, scores, achievements, and ratings. The PinApp also is a handy way to review FAQ and Support materials, and Help Videos. And to order a deeproot game too!

Manufacturing
We have designed the deeproot platform from the ground up with increasing quality and consistency, simplifying processes, and reducing waste and costs in manufacturing. Through a network of vendors and in house manufacturing, the Quad Assembly process is well thought out and designed to spec with the best Agile and Lean principals for our space and product processes. Not only do we standardize parts and technology leading to more efficient manufacturing of multiple games titles at once, but the repeatable and low cost of our Quad Assembly work stations allow on-the-fly throttling of production to meet demand.

I know these are still just prototypes and production is years away....

But are they really gonna go with the “solderless” idea whenever they finalize production models?

Connectors are the single biggest point of failure in the history of solid state pinball. I don’t think adding dozens of them is a great idea.

Better stock up on those $1,000 extended service plans.

Also I hope they just build longer legs for the front rather than ship with the front levelers jacked up. It looks silly.

#13467 3 years ago

Exactly what I was thinking - solderless ? How many crappy molex or other new "innovative" connectors they come up with going to do ?

Agree with Levi - that sounds like a recipe for troubles.

#13468 3 years ago

If they are serious about it costing $50 a month for DLC, in order to unlock all the modes for a game....that $4999 doesn't stay $4999, unless you want to play all the free modes over and over.

#13469 3 years ago

More enterprising folks than me might want to compare what was in the Sep 2020 TWIP article (https://www.thisweekinpinball.com/deeproot-pinball-platform-pinbar-pinarmor-ecosystem-future-games-and-future-plans/) to what I posted above (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/twip-is-deeproot-the-next-misadventure-or-a-pinball-revolution/page/270#post-5975900) to look for significant differences of note/intrigue

You do realize that solderless connectors are the industry standard from medical to aerospace to automotive? Whoever wrote that spiel above knows nothing about connectors or they would not even have mentioned the part about solderless because it is assumed. Anyone mocking the solderless connectors knows even less.

I guess this is the first I'm hearing about Deep Root getting the Goonies License and I'm excited for that if it ever happens. Insta buy for me on that title, hope they do it justice. I posted this in the Where's Goonies thread but here it is again:

I hope that one day this game will officially get released, what an amazing theme. Would love to see;

some rube goldberg type crazy sequence contraptions opening a gate for the ball to go through
truffle shuffle shaker
water slide type ramps
under playfield revealing one eyed willies treasure
sloth lifting his legs as a target revealing a captured ball for you to hit and escape
the call-outs quotes
booby traps
fratelli chase
have fake 50$ bills print out from the game
moving pipes
mouth multiball

This is an instant purchase for me.

Story (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:P_AueyoIvvgJ:https://drpb.turnerlogic.com/about/story)
Why Pinball?
I was never into pinball growing up.
****
Pinball is complex, but not hard.
*****
After having our launch day dashed in March of 2019 (our fault) and March of 2020 (pandemic), we finally launched on September 21, 2020 with a reality-style factory tour production with some amazing pinball personalities.
****
However, we couldn’t get very far when the only standard was ‘What would Robert want’? In time, we had to create much more realistic and measurable standards that refined and focused our sights on the final deliverables. Some of these include that our machine should be designed for a 100lb user that weighed a fraction of the pinball machine, who couldn’t ‘operate a remote’, and had little to no knowledge of pinball.
****
For our electrical system, we chose to go a solderless route (even though more expensive) to simplify assembly and consumer maintenance
Distributors (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:mdb-z_85yOUJ:https://drpb.turnerlogic.com/contact/distributor)
Prior to December 1, 2020, deeproot’s policy for U.S. distributors is as follows. A distributor may provide one of its customers with a specially formatted URL or code that the customer must use to purchase a RAZA pinball machine in our online shop. No special favors or rights will accompany these sales. We prefer that games be shipped directly to the customer and not the distributor. The US distributor will be compensated with a commission on the sale, to be paid to distributor according to company policies, no later than five days following full payment by customer.
*****
After December 1, 2020, a U.S. distributor (i.e. Domestic) meeting the below criteria, approved by deeproot Pinball, and who executes a distribution agreement, may assist a customer in the sale or limited service of a deeproot purchase. Domestic distribution rights of our products require the following four criteria to qualify:
A registered legal entity, full time staff, with a defined geographical territory
Prior pinball sales experience
History of marketing, along with a marketing budget
A minimum commitment of 50 sales per contract year

There's probably a few dumb assess on here that still like to burn money, but if they're really doing this, ouch. Way to kill any chance of success.... I really wanted to buy this game to support them, even after Robert's bs and the shitty Ferris wheel, but if they go this route, not a chance.

YOU ALL TALK CRAP that isn't true. [quoted image]

that looks like a playfield swap by someone. I can't say for sure if WMS ever tried using spade connectors for flippers, but if they did it was a failed experiment and they switched back to soldering them on.

that looks like a playfield swap by someone. I can't say for sure if WMS ever tried using spade connectors for flippers, but if they did it was a failed experiment and they switched back to soldering them on.

No it's no playfield swap, it's a wms pinball 2000. A no again they didn't switch back why? they closed

Quoted from pinballwil:

Wms has solderless coil connections.
YOU ALL TALK CRAP that isn't true. [quoted image]

Not sure why it’s hard to understand how solder is a better connection than a connector.

Haha. That’s because they went out of business.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

I admit I know nothing about those industries. Do they have solderless connections at points that see constant and significant vibration?

They would probably solder a pigtail on the coils then use a connector

The do use solderless *especially* where there is constant vibration. I dare anyone to show me a soldered pin on a connector in a car or a SpaceX rocket for that matter. What happens is that the solder wicks up into the strands of the wire and makes it really stiff. Where the solder stops, the wire is flexible again. That interface between the flexible and stiff part of the wire is a natural place that it will break off after being exposed to vibration.

For pinball coils, I like the spade connectors Williams used on later games or a short pigtail with a molex connector. Nothing wrong with soldering direct to the coil either, but this conversation is about "connectors".

It wasn't the question what is better (solder is) The question was if there where connector in use on coils, yes both pinball 2000 used it.

Thanks well said, your English is 1000 times better than mine.

The backbox looks like a fish tank.

The backbox looks like a fish tank.

It’s all part of the paradigm shifting, game changing innovation of deep root.

One day, you’ll look at a fish tank and think, “gee, that looks like a deep root game!”

" Where's The Fishtank"???

Did Deeproot makes claims that their pin is air worthy ? Guess I missed that. When pigs fly - or for that matter pinball machines.

Spade connectors on a coil suck. It's a pinball machine, not an airplane. I'll take solder thanks. Not flying my pinball machine today or driving it down the road.

Or maybe a toilet tank.

I really like the look and know nothing about play other than last night watching .I was interested in getting this for my kids but if it’s $550/year to play the expanded codes I want nothing to do with it .I could honestly see a one time charge for a upgraded code maybe that would speed things up with coding in general on any games but the last thing in the world anybody wants is another monthly payment .

So who doesn’t use solderless connectors? I’ve never seen one unless it’s an absolute hack.

Doesn’t HEP do Molex connections on coils?

Yes. Those don’t have solder. No connectors do. Haha

Oh, guessed I missed something. Are we talking push on (ala: speaker style) connectors for coils? If so, then totally agree that’s a bad idea.
