Friend had an mr2, that thing was like a go-cart (but a little cramped for me who's 6'4"). Still sorta want a mazda miata. Even though it's not the fastest car, it drives like it's on rails

Now motorcycles.., I had a 1982 Yamaha 650 Maxim 4 cylinder. A man's machine if there ever was one.

I need a shirt like this. Not want. Need.

That shirt is probably the worst I've ever seen.
Well atleast we know where all the fabrics from curtains they couldnt sell in the seventies went.

I think the de-evolution (Dee Eee Vee Oh) of this thread into carguments and 80’s retro BS is just a symptom of how pissed off we are with the DR RAZA reveal. I generally think people would have liked to have seen something more close to a JJP machine, or phuck it- even a massive throwback to a 90’s B/W Jpop semi soft turd wrapped in standard cabinet and no Painbar(TM)... but what we got feels like Zidware 2.0, a pitch deck, a painful kitchen appliance nobody wanted, and a cabinet that makes the leftover Champagne Edition Cabinets from Rapidfire blush. What more could you ask for in a hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside a train wreck?

This my contribution to the 80s cars. This is my 86 monte carlo ss.

Ok my first two cars were a Malibu station wagon (brown. Nickname: the turd)

And after that I got a nice silver two tone crown Vic. I loved that car!

Still the last two cars I’ve owned! Living in nyc it’s been 20 years since I held a title.

That Malibu was one of those cars where the rear windows didn’t open. To think that Detroit thought this was a perfectly acceptable design compromise for tens of thousands of cars.

Nothing new for this thread , over a year ago it turned into a discussion about 80s TV shows . We've got to talk about something why we're waiting for yet another reveal .

In an alternate universe, there is a DR who just shut it and just quietly focused their passion into making great pinball until it was ready. We would all wish them the best.
But in this universe...

In this universe... They hired JPOP. Despite EVERYONE telling them not to.

Adding to the car thread. I rocked this for 20+ years. I think I cried a little bit when I sold it. '88 Acura Integra 5-speed

Crazy. Love that car, hard to sell. I had a much worse car for 13 years but it just wasn’t worth what it would have cost to repair.

Quoted from benheck:

But what 80's cars has JPOP owned? That is the real question now.

#12318 3 years ago
Quoted from rai:

What rear window? Windows in the rear doors?

Correct. Tens of thousands of cars. Maybe more. Every Malibu Sedan and station wagon and every other similar car from all the GM labels. For years.

The rear doors were too small for the window to roll down. So they just didn’t.

That’s American car companies in the early 1980s folks.

It was always fun in high school on a hot summer day with the ac broken seeing the look on my friends’ faces when they realized they couldn’t roll the window down. There were tiny “vent windows” you could open but they were worthless you got no breeze.

Loved the 80’s, my second Fiat X1/9 1984 (first car I ever owned was a 1982 X1/9) with my Dad’s 1988 Anniversary Vette. Fiat on flatbed due to my thinking doing a Dukes of Hazzard jump over a hill in the road is a good idea (the day I got it) - it wasn’t as I cracked the transmission, busted some gears, and broke 2 engine mounts - cost me more to fix it then it did to buy it.

Yeah. I was saving that one since last night. A few of my buddies drove those. They still leaked oil like every other USA 80s car.

Next up,

Redesign of RAZA is temporarily paused, while dr is now laser focused on developing cars for their employees to travel back and forth to work. Robert took inspiration from 1980’s vehicles and is building them as exact replica’s of the finest examples from this age with one difference. Each car comes with a Pinbar (tm) and the dash has been scooped out to allow docking. Robert explained, “each pinball designer has different needs so the community will notice there is much variety between our offered models. The cars are all in various stages of completion and we plan to (hope to but will probably postpone) show them off at TPF 2021. Automotive companies may choose to license our designs to produce these models once they see how swell they are. We will also be totally disrupting the auto industry. We want car renters to ask themselves, where’s the Pinbar (tm) in this here car you gave me?

As a bonus with fun exercise, try to match Deeproot’s pinball designers including Robert to a car model.

I do intend to convert it into an EV though. - It‘s cheaper in the long run, since parts become rare and there‘s always some fluid leaking. XD

That's good to hear! He loved his job and work. He drove his 1971 Pontiac LeMans until 1989 with 269K on the clock, the heads were removed for replacement gaskets, but that was it on the standard Pontiac 350 2-barrel.

I saw a fan win one of those at a Washington capitals game. Shot the puck through a tiny little hole! Was pretty sick.

They drove that little shit box right onto the ice as the crowd went wild!

Yes, on most American cars, the 80s saw gaskets removed and cheaper RTV sealant being installed from the factory. And not the good stuff they have now. Shit would leak well before warrantee ended. Everywhere. Meanwhile, in Japan, they were using rubber o-rings. You don't want leaks, you bought Japanese. But even Japan turned out it's share of turds.

You know your stuff! He made over 30 trips to Japan, I want to say they worked at least with Nissan and Toyota. He wrote a book that covered every type of 'static' seal gasket: chemical, o-ring, metallic, and non-metallic. But enough about my Dad, let's get back to 80's cars.

Awful car!

Honestly we hit on a lot of losers until the Mercury Sable.

My daughter drove the grandson of that Skylark, a 2002 Cavalier, for several years before she recently moved to England. And although it didn't have leaks and was fairly reliably with relatively low milage, there wasn't much improvement in the engineering of that car 30 years later.

Worst piece of shit to work on ever. Take the whole front of the car off just to replace a headlite bulb. Nothing is easy. So, in that sense, the 80s were still around well into the 21st century.

One particular 80s car line was designed and built to run forever. Many 100s of 1000s of miles.
My friend's may no longer have power steering or AC, but still runs like a top.

Still way more comfy then a VW Polo the same age.

I had one of these bad boys back in the day. Greet car that had no problem with Wyoming snow. It also was also the only car that would start in the mornings on those -10 days. I jumpstarted countless neighborhood cars with it. Left it at the bus station in Oceanslime, Ca when i got out of the USMC in 1996. About 10 years ago, I get a letter telling me the state had auctioned off the car lol. I present to you, the Mercury Lynx

Quoted from Bublehead:

Mine has a fricken dial, but it’s just a button toggler when you spin, it moving to the next LED lit option and so doesn’t work like Odin’s. It has all that “gee-wizardry” of Direct Drive and brushless motor, sensors out the butt and yet what kills it? Unsealed shitty bearings that fail when using the machine “per the instructions” with fabric softener. And be it snake oil or not, it will get women kinda touchy and pissed off when their panties and bras feel like 10 year old sun-dried canvas when washed without it. I can do without it, I did when I was in the Navy, but I broached the subject early on in the marriage and that idea got succinctly shot down 30 years ago.

We moved to Tucson ~4 years ago and bought a washer but not a dryer. We line dry everything. 300+ sunny days a year. Our friends, family and guests alway comment on our “crunchy” towels. I must be lucky and found a wife that likes everything stiff.
