I kinda like the look of the cab and the pinbar seems super cool to me. And it looks like multiplayer and score sharing is built in.

On top of that Raza itself looks cool. I like the theme and ZY art. Ill be paying attention when they get closer to launch. If they dont want a deposit that far in advance of shipping I may bite.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Do any of you guys really find the service buttons on your pinball machines to be "very difficult to use for simple testing, maintenance, or tasks?" I agree opening a door and using buttons can be pretty difficult if you don't have any hands, and the Pinbar (TM) will help out there as you can use your tongue or penis instead, but I just don't see this as a huge improvement when it comes to ease of use.
Reminds me of those "as seen on tv" ads where someone can't use a basic onion peeler without losing a finger or setting their kitchen on fire.

Sure it works, but just because it works doesn't mean it shouldn't be improved.
Anyone that has used the JJP sevice menu v. the standard service menu (back then) knows this was a big improvement. And what about the old 3 button setup? 4 buttons were a godsend/luxury once upon a time.

Quoted from NeilMcRae:

did they have a manufacturing line?

That's not in the allowed "talking points" Neil. Not a peep.

We are back into total fantasy land here again. Look at this, look at that, now how do they actually get made, in any volume.

I'm sure Bob has threatened these guys if they go outside the NDA. Well, we know that he has.

The NDA is as worthless as the paper it's written on. While i would try and comply out of courtesy, the DAMAGES as a result of any violation would be ZERO. Any damages are SELF INFLICTED.

The thing is that Deeproot made claims they were going to blow the competition away with innovations, putting everthing down etc. So you could argue these reactions are justified somewhat.

They did more than that. Robert harassed quite a few people/companies a few years ago. I notice some folks who are not posting in this thread at all or talking about DR. That's for a reason.

Karma is a bitch.

Quoted from zenbone:

i am hopeful the lockdown touch screen can be converted to play like Candy Crush or Tsum Tsum... just to keep the machine relative after what i am assuming will be a triumphant and incredibly successful launch.
of course if it had a sarcasm meter that would probably a great innovation too!

Exactly!! Ok, you played the pinball game for a buck, want to play Minecraft on the Pinbar(TM) for 20 microtransactions for 2 minutes!! "SURE!!!!!" as the kids get the phones out, to interact with the Pinbar(TM). It was then, that deeproot(TM) pinball died.

And something I predicted years ago(The APP, I didnt see the Pinbar(TM) coming). Those JPOP buyers get a Pinbar(TM) itself. They connect it to a phone and use it with the RAZA(TM) App, which comes free, with the Pinbar(TM). Normally $5.99.. There, now the JPOOP(TM) guys are paid off!

I understand it has much more functionality than just options but how about instead of a screen in the lockdown bar, the game can just connect to your phone or tablet via bloothtooth and an app?

Does anyone else think these slides look like a pitch deck?

Felt that way. I'm guessing the pinball celebrities had to sit in the theater and watch Robert go through them all.

#11210 3 years ago

Does Stern do original titles? No? Why?

How about Spooky? Not after their first title. TNA was Danesi and then came Rick & Morty. Btw, Hot Wheels is ranked at 35 while TNA sits at 45.

How about JJP? No more after Dialed In. Why? No matter how great some think it is it didn't sell because of the theme.

How about AP? Nope.

P3? Gerry is turning the corner with Heist and I'm gonna get one probably. All he needs is a great "licensed" theme next.

So Deeproot has cracked the code on original themes now? Ok

#11211 3 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

I can't believe the amount of people apologizing for such a stupid theme!
I can't imagine more than a handful of people buying a theme like that.
You guys know it. "Take my money for Food truck! I'm not getting Avengers, GNR, Toy Story, James Bond or any other game because Food truck kick ass"
Ain't gonna happen.
Can you imagine if a successful company like Stern announced a "food truck" game?

People said the EXACT same thing for Dialed in.
Food truck is a better theme imo

#11212 3 years ago
Quoted from tilted81:

People said the EXACT same thing for Dialed in.

And they were right. The game didn't sell and most people here still hate the theme.

It's a great game but people just weren't into the high-concept theme. They just wanted Fletch or Van Halen.

I'll give you that. Dialed In didn't sell well and the secondary market is terrible on that game because of the theme.

Popeye>Food truck > Dialed In as a THEME. LOL

Mmmmmmm... man I may have confused it w/ wonka, but I thought there was just very recently another run of dialed in, which I recall asking “who’s buying?!?”

#11217 3 years ago

With all of these titles on the "drawing board" how many games a year do they expect to produce let's say in 2021?

It takes 300 employees at Stern to crank out about 18,000 pins.

Is this gonna be a Spooky level production? 750 games every 18 months?

AP? JJP?

Where is the assembly line? How many employees?

No answers to common sense questions.

You can justify whatever you want. Even if I don't like someone or something, I am not gonna bash to the point of posting 10-20 negative posts just to make sure people hear me. There is a whole team of people who are putting their work into this. Countless hours I assume. Just put yourself in their shoes before posting some of the nasty things people post is what I am saying. I guess that makes them feel important or something.

Food truck theme inspired from this Fun With Bonus link from 2016?

I push the wrong buttons all the time and back out too far or blip into the wrong section. When you are looking at the menu on the screen you can't see your fingers, frankly I've always found it pretty annoying. I wouldn't call it "very difficult" but I would call it annoying, poorly designed and ready for an upgrade.

#11221 3 years ago

Not a league player myself, but couldn’t there be some value in potentially being able to log in and track games? At least keeps things on the up and up.

Welp, deep root is the pinball company for you!

It’s good to see some alternative opinions as people come out of the woodwork to timidly praise what they’ve seen so far. If “innovation” is what you crave there’s no doubt they are throwing a ton of shit against the wall and hoping some of it sticks. They are surely delivering on their promise to do things differently.

I don't know about value, but it's fun with Bride of Pinbot 2.0. It remembers your achievements, tracks a bunch of stuff, and you can see everyone's scores live: http://www.dutchpinball.com/bop2/live

I've kinda figured for years this is where pinball was going, Golden Tee and Big Buck Hunter do something similar, it seems like an easy way to bring more to pinball games without spending a lot of money on development costs.

#11224 3 years ago

After seeing the video of Steve Bowden clicking through, the pinbar is growing on me. I still worry about reliability.

Any reason why the glass of a touch screen would be less durable than the normal pinball glass?

According to their article the pinbar is “durable and easily replaceable”. It would be nice to get more clarification. What kind of glass is on the touch screen. I would assume a bigger screen on a pinball machine would have thicker and more durable glass than something like a phone. Also how much a pinbar replacement would cost.

#11230 3 years ago

Some of my favorite games are unlicensed themes but they're certainly more risky.

Licensed = instant sales as soon as it's revealed. People will buy based on the theme, even if it's not a very good game.

Unlicensed = buyers will wait to play and see if they like it before buying. Game must be good to sell in volume.

#11231 3 years ago

Y’all are talking about Food Truck but forgetting that we now have a pin that we can share with the Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons who come to our doors.

#11232 3 years ago

I want to like this, but I just can't get into the PinBar. What's the point? It looks like it doesn't belong there and it doesn't seem to display anything you couldn't just put on the backbox display. As far as having a touch screen, that doesn't sound particularly useful on a pin. Changing settings? Maybe if it was smaller screen... or why not just have the machine interface with your cell phone for that? I go years without changing settings on some of my games, so it would hardly be worth having a large, flipper blocking apron display to make it easier to do so. I would seriously be more interested without this feature, but I can tell a lot of development has been sunk into it, so I doubt it's going anywhere. I can't help but be reminded of Zidware and how time was spent on developing unique leg bolts and cabinets, a handful of odd themes were announced, and random artwork shown before even one functional pinball machine was built. Having said that, I am trying to keep an open mind on this and looking forward to seeing the progress.

I must admit, for me personally some of the "innovations" worked for me and some did not. However, I find myself really rooting for a successful launch over at DP now for the simple fact that they teased us with Goonies. That and BTTF are the two themes I've been craving for years. I could not have been more thrilled to see that someone is finally doing this. Raza needs to work so they can get me a Goonies pin!
Let's gooooo!

Quoted from nwpinball:

I weirdly like the Food Truck concept, I also think it may be appealing to younger folks than old guy rock bands and 30 year old movies. It seems like Deeproot is making a concerted effort to go after younger players and lure new people into playing pinball, maybe that's where they see their market growth since Stern already has the 50 year old white guy demographic down. That's my demographic, but I see value in creating your own market and bringing in newer generations of pinball fans.

So, hard metal edges and easily breakable touchscreens that might very well render the game dead. Expected from this demographic i suppose, where planned obsolescence is now 2 years(smartphone) before you are tech-shamed. It was good they delayed the launch.

Like many have mentioned, whats under the glass is what counts...

Quoted from NoQuarters:

I'm with Levi on this. Pretty much everything they did is stupid. The "innovations" are goofy. That's one of the crappiest hot messes I have seen. The came up with stuff just to have new crapola. Might as well put square tires on a car.
The only thing stupid I might like, IF it was done right, are the dumb themes, with forethought, and IF done by another company that can actually produce a game. That's even a flyer, but a funny theme or an off the wall title "MIGHT" work if executed correctly with an experienced smart manufacturer. Even that's a big stretch. Just trying to find something to sort of like.
They haven't even tackled the hardest part. A factory line with workers and processes that work, and so on. Too busy designing the Edsel pinball machine.

Soo, JPOOP is the Edsel of the pinball world? Nah, Edsel at least wasnt a fraud. deeproot regrets that decision....

#11249 3 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

It doesn't look like they actually have a license. Sounds like they have "a concept."
So many concepts. I don't currently have the Harry Potter license yet either but I've provided a concept.
I do love me some fuckin' Who. More rock pins the better. Everybody says they are sick of them but they sell.
I think the reason you aren't seeing any excitement is because nobody believes Deep Root is ever actually going to produce a Who pin, "unique mechs" or no.

Seems like this would have been one of the first pins mentioned, not an afterthought behind dueling religions (Unless they have a location specific setting, could kill on route!!!) and a food trunk. Confidence level at less that zero.
