Yeah. Pretty sure nobody knows what refreshments Deeproot will be serving at their reveal.

Root beer.

#7852 4 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

Heard its cheese and whiiiiine.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up sounds great to me. Not a beer fan.

#7853 4 years ago
Quoted from Yelobird:

But if we did people would find a way to complain about that also.....

I wonder why noone's allready doing that.

I mean, they're not telling you what refreshments'll be there so the natural thing to state as an absolute fact is that there wont be any and that they should have hired a professional catering team!!!

Anybody that is going. Can you grab a doggie bag. So we can see what the appetizers were.

I personally think it’s a huge mistake not to disclose the refreshments at least 60 days in advance. It’s common practice to thoroughly list all libations. Doesn’t Stern have an entire part of their website dedicated to them? This just feels like a huge mistake.

#7856 4 years ago

I heard they are dumping their entire $750k/week allotment into the refreshments. Read it in an SEC filing.

Stern is now a lifestyle brand; therefore, we know their refreshments will be craft beer that goes with the perfect lumberjack beard and flat brimmed cap, sticker and all.

I just want to state that I hate you all... while loving you at the same time! XD

(Lost track of it, since I had multiple nightshifts in the hospital, due to colleages beeing in Corona quarantine.)

And you have to beat this guy before you are allowed to leave.

I would expect to see a few RAZA available for play and ORDER, ....

With AP supposedly cutting prices on game #3 and Jack cutting the price of Wonka SE last year, I think pricing is going to be very crucial for Deeproot. I think going at it with a emphasis on "value for the money" as opposed to hitting a competitive price point could be a bad move for a new company banking on volume in the currently over saturated pinball market.

Has it really taken the other 20 pinball companies this long to figure out that a "pro" level commercial pinball machine at around $5,500 is what people want?

It's not like Stern has made a secret of this. It's their bread and butter!

#7864 4 years ago

Its not that companies don't WANT to make a $5500 pinball machine, its that they can't without having enough margin to stay alive.
Nobody can compete with the Stern pro, except Thunderbirds so they add features to compete with the premium model.
We'll see if DeepRoot proves me wrong. I hope so!

Actually, I want Stern Pro machines for about $4200, but I digress

Your biggest market segment is the cheapest trim level of game. If you can figure out how to make profit on the game at that price level, you instantly have a competitive advantage over everyone not named Stern.

Quoted from JodyG:

Yeah that’s about the max I’d pay for one NIB. Otherwise I’m perfectly fine buying 90s pins and others. And once the 1Up machine comes out for $600, even less interested in taking up space I don’t have

Deeproot is making the old computer space cadet pin. About a year ago twip posted this and yesterday inserted a space cadet picture at the end of the DP interview.

Robert mentioned at a convention (I believe at Expo 2018?) that 3D Space Cadet was his initial interaction with pinball and that it was special to him. Not sure if this is just a reference to that or if they're really making it.

If someone were to make a virtual pin into a real on, I'd prefer it be Timeshock. That's a truly fun game to play. I saw some one was homebrewing one, but don't know what came of it.

I’m guessing Stern is the only manufacturer making real money. Their model works financially and I’m sure they could get more price competitive if they feel the need.

Silver Castle is making the official one but it has been several years now and I'm starting to lose hope. The homebrew guy was made to go dark.

Quoted from LTG:

They probably ran smack into the reality of making pinball machines. One thing out of their control can gum up the works.

if TPF is cancelled over virus concerns, will DR even hold their on-site reveal? if not, that opportunity is lost/postponed. the saturated market conditions dont bode well for them either with GNR, TNMT, hot wheels, CGCremake being introduced AND 4.5 million dollars plus $addon still outstanding from ~700 RAM buyers. simply a very bad point in time to be introducing an additional game/manufacturer. factor in the impact of the economic/societal revamping currently underway and we have big trouble from little china.

im having a hard time seeing where the $$ and demand for RAZA will come from. liked the screen, but the gameplay and layout wernt very compelling. biggest beef: even if players can eventually make the complete whirly ramp once in a while and send the ball down the left return, the design of that plastic is ridiculous. covers/obscures the atomic lane, hides the duck shooting gallery, projects into the pf to dump the ball in front of the left sling, further impairing visibility. 18" of katana sword plastic that may rarely come into play - it shouldnt even be there. completing the ramp to the left should simply dump the ball into the squiggle track atop the center left plastic, which then feeds the left inlane.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Don't fret about the Launch... this is just the start! This is only a taste of what we are doing, there is plenty more to come (again.. more promises instead of more deliverables)

almost every one of roberts latest comments comes across as "we are still behind schedule".

Quoted from JodyG:

I'm more curious about what they will show for their manufacturing capability at launch.

its going to be super disappointing if DR is unable to demonstrate the ability to produce games at this point in time.

#7874 4 years ago

And if the worst happens, they should be prepared to make this a livestream-only presentation.

#7875 4 years ago

Did deeproot develop and release this virus just to get out of the reveal?

It wouldn't be their grandest plan.

Space Cadet was big for a lot of my friends and I. Back when there was only Minesweep and Solitare, the launch of Space Cadet while we were in our K-12 computer labs was HUGE! I always wanted to make a physical version homebrew. It would be cool if Deeproot could do it as I'd probably screw up a million things about it.

No idea what will happen.

I do feel sorry for any manufacturer gearing up for a reveal at TPF and having it fall apart.

Hopefully things can get rescheduled and move forward. And not have a negative impact on any manufacturers future.

Best wishes to these companies in these trying times.

China did, to make us forget about HK. Also to get rid of seniors, since they do not contribute to the party anymore. Cost cutting measure!!

I see the new Deeproot reveal happening during the summer where they will have 3-5 titles ready for purchase.

They emailed everyone. The event is Still going on but they understand with the close of TPF many will not be able to attend.

#7884 4 years ago

I'm sure their investors are a lot happier they put their money into deeproot pinball instead of the regular stock market.

Is MGC going to be cancelled too ?

I havn't checked in to this thread since page 68. Anyone excited or have information on Barry Oursler? I love his games and am glad he is back into pinball after a while off. I would say most of us have owned one of his games at some point?

Or still do... but I am the most interested in seeing his newest design, not JPop’s. I asked him at TPF last year if working at DR was like working at B/W and he said it was better than working there, they give him way more freedom to do what he wants, and he can’t wait to show it to us.

Did Barry say if it was a licensed or unlicensed theme? I am looking forward to it as well.

I asked that question, but he wouldn’t (couldn’t?) tell me. He was chomping at the bit, though, and acted like a kid with a secret. That passion for pinball is hard to hide, but he does a fair job at it sometimes. My dream theme would be for him to do a real sequel to Pinbot and Bride, like Son of Pinbot... but not just a reskin like Jackbot (which was an ok update, but why the casino theme?!?), but a whole new take on the theme of giant robots IN SPACE!!!

Everything will be canceled till September or October. What you are witnessing are the last spasms of denial.

It’s irritating that your always so optimistic?

11?

Shutdown is beginning here...

From DR Website:

"deeproot Launch Information
UPDATED 3.12.2020

It is unfortunate that the unprecedented COVID-19 (Chinese coronavirus) pandemic has negatively affected ALL aspects of our launch. While we take the pandemic seriously, in Texas the threat of COVID-19 is still very low. Therefore, our launch day events will continue as-is at the present time as we expect well less than the recommended maximum group count of 100 to be here.

We understand if some credentialed attendees cancel their plans to attend the launch day events.

For those still attending, we will offer sanitized areas and ample sanitizer and wipes as a precaution. We will not be permitting any other attendees at this time other than local media. We have not changed plans to stream the event on a delayed broadcast around the globe.

While our launch event here in San Antonio is still a go, deeproot’s plan to attend the Texas Pinball Festival in Frisco, Texas have been cancelled, due to the 2020 cancellation of the event today. Our gratitude and thoughts go out to Ed, Kim, Paul and team during this unfortunate time.

Zidware customers who were offered VIP access to TPF: we will be in touch with details on how we will deal with these issues.

REMINDER: Our launch to be streamed to the public on delayed broadcast. Check back here for more information."

Quoted from romulusx:

I simply don’t understand the mass denial and the arbitrary “end date” people are putting on things.

Disney says they’ll open March 28.

Really? Wanna bet? I think that’s just when they plan on ceasing Payment to “cast members.”

MLB is gonna start “two weeks late?” Oh great. Where’d you come up with that date?

People need to end the denial and move on to acceptance. I just started my first full work day at home and first weekly staff meeting via conference call. I also did my first food shopping in ages, as I don’t plan on eating out anymore. And I eat at restaurants at least 2X a day.

It won’t last forever but we need to get used to it for the immediate future.

I cannot wait for this launch party! This is no doubt going to go down as one of the biggest, most over hyped jokes in pinball history! Robert is already backpedaling and spinning. Just remember Robert, we cannot be wrong, we are the buyers of your games. When your Deeproot launch is met with disappointment and laughter by the community, you won’t be able to wordsmith your way out if it. This is not fake Corporate America, this is the real word! Games shipping in 2099!
