If you own one of the TZ slot toppers I will be offering FREE upgrades to Limited Edition status at the Golden State pinball festival in Lodi. Here is what it looks like:

I guess that's one way of looking at it. I'm offering something for nothing but you don't have to take me up on it. If it makes you feel better I can charge you for the upgrade.

I am the original electrical engineer on this topper. I revised the code for the additional patterns as I always felt the design unfinished. Now I want to get my upgrades out into the wild.

Interesting.... alas I’ve never seen more than a handful of them over the years :/

I have one of these toppers on my TZ. I won't be able to attend the show. What does the upgrade involve and will you make it available for sale?

#9 4 years ago

I am interested too, but am unable to attend GSPF.

#10 4 years ago

Me (in Germany) and a friend in Austria we would also like to upgrade our toppers.
We will not join GSPF

I have been getting a lot of requests to have toppers shipped to me for upgrade. I don't really want to deal with that but I can be persuaded for a price. Pay shipping both ways and a hundred bucks to me and I'll do it. Make it easy on me and it's free. Make me work and I gotta get paid. Any topper sent to me I will need verification that it works before you ship it. Have one that doesn't work? We can talk. PM me for details.

It ssems that we have to stay on old code ....
Shipping from Germany to the US for an update is impossible. This topper already costs real hard money 10 years ago when I bought it in the US and had shipping to Germany and discussions with customs.

Is the code on an IC stored or kind of flashdrive ?

Cheers
Tom

Considering what one of these just sold for on ebay for I'm hesitant on shipping it. Can it be upgraded via a chip replacement?

Can it be upgraded without sending the whole unit?

$1,725 on eBay... this hobby is getting out of control

I've had several people mention that I should sell mine.

But my TZ would be naked.

Crazy prices on these.
I have the gum ball machine version, which one is more sought after?
I'm considering selling mine, and I'm not sure how much to ask for it.

#18 4 years ago

so.. how many more of those $1725 toppers do you have?

#19 4 years ago

One selling for $1725 does not mean they will all sell for that.

(he says forlornly hoping to pick one of these up for a sensible price one day)

Sorry to bring this old topic back. Still interested in having my topper upgraded. Could it be upgraded with a chip replacement?

Thanks Martin

It's done by writing the new code into the surface mounted controller, so a chip replacement wouldn't be practical. gottliebgreg upgraded mine and it's a nice improvement, many more patterns and seems less repetitive.

I still do the upgrades, free of charge. No component changes. Next time I'll be doing it will be GSPF if I have any interested parties.
