Hi.

I am having an issue with a Twilight Zone and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out the problem.

Backstory:

The left flipper bat on Twilight Zone broke and needed to be replaced. I extracted the left flipper and replaced it. The left flipper tested fine and works as expected. However, the right flipper coil is now acting strange.

Issue:

The bottom right flipper coil will engage as if a flipper button was pressed the moment a game is started. The coil is energized and will not release the the energy until the power is turned off.

In test mode, the flipper coil energizes when I move into the test menu. It will de-energize when I enter Flipper Coil Test. During Flipper Coil test, the right coil works as expected. Everything seems fine in Flipper Coil Test mode. But the moment I exit the Flipper Coil Test, and move back to the Test Menu, the right flipper coil energizes again.

What I have done so far:

I have examined the wire lugs and solder connection to the coil. I manually inspected each wire and I do not see any physical reason anomaly.
I checked the opto board connection. When I press the flipper button, the upper right flipper fires as expected, but the bottom right flipper stays in the energized position. When I remove the connection to the opto board, the coil de-energized. When I connect it, the coil energizes. So I'm leaning towards a bad opto board, but I wanted to get some other possible suggestions.

Has anyone encountered this before? Any suggestions?

Solution:

I simply removed the opto board, tested it on the left side, and it worked.

I replaced it on the right side, and the flipper worked fine.

I'll order a replacement board just to have back up.
