With regards to upgrading speakers in pre-DCS games. I have now done a pair of games using this guide: http://www.dziedzic.us/wpc_speaker_replacement.html

Ive been pretty happy with the results.

When I get my TZ up and running again. I will be replacing the speaker in it as well. The biggest improvement for me with this setup is being able to control the bass.

I’ve got a question for the group. What coils are you running on the lower flippers of your machine? Mine came with 11629 coils (the strongest coils). But the manual specs out 15411 coils. Should I swap mine out while I’m restoring the game? My existing coils are German replacements. I was going to leave them in as an acknowledgement of the games overseas tour of duty, but if they are the wrong coils, they may have to go.

Does anyone have access to a parts catalog for TZ? I am missing a bunch of stand-offs for and hardware for some of my plastics, and I am trying to identify what I need to order.

#8852 3 years ago
Quoted from Neal_W:

Parts are at the end of the PDF:
6 MB PDF Operations Manual (OCR searchable)
https://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=2684

The parts catalogs are different than the service manuals. They include a lot more exploded views of less common items like ramps. Bally/Williams typically released one every couple of years, and it covered a number of games. I think it’s odd that TZ appears to have never been included in the regular parts catalogs.

Planetary pinball has the parts catalogs listed here: http://www.planetarypinball.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=BOOK

Thanks, I didn't look in that one because Planetary didn't list TZ as being part of that manual.

Does anyone have a set of switch covers they would be willing to sell? I’d love to get a set of the low profile power switches, but I think shipping them for Europe is not going to happen for a while.

I thought they were the large covers. I guess I was mistaken.

I’ve finally gotten my restoration TZ to flip again, and now I’m trying to work the bugs out of the game playfield mechs. I’ve got them just about all figured except for the power diverted. The 26-1200 coil just doesn’t have enough power to pull the diverted down when there is a ball in the basket. It just sits there and buzzes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to address this problem?

I guess the first problem is that I have the rod going into the diverted on the opposite side. I didn’t think that would make a difference.

So installed the push rod on the correct side, and now it works. My only complaint on the diverter now is the fact that it doesn’t sit as low as I would like. It works ok, but it looks like the rod is about an 1/8 inch too short. I wonder if this is the difference is because I’m using an after market playfield?

Also...MY CLOCK IS LOUD!! any tips for quieting it down?

Well crap, I thought I had this one licked, but it only worked for about 5 games and now it sticks again. There has to be something wrong with the alignment. It’s a brand new coil in a brand new mech.

Quoted from Barr993:

I had pretty much the same issue after a tear down and cleaning. Mechanically free by hand but only worked 50% of the time. Fought it for a while until I realized the rod was on the opposite side. Corrected that and was good to go...for a few games. After living with it for a while I tested resistance of the coil which matched a new one on hand to replace a bad knocker coil in my Taxi. Eventually decided to put the new coil in the TZ as a last ditch effort and have been good since. Put the old coil in the Taxi and it just made a thump when tested so looks like mine was a weak coil issue.

Well the coil I have in there is supposed to be brand new. The next time it starts acting up I may measure the resistance and measure it against the specs. So far it has worked well for about 20 or so games.

Twister came through for me and a friend this week. I ordered two sets of power playfield switches on Monday, and they were here by Friday (shipping was 60€!). So this afternoon I was able to get some time in the shop, and installed them. They work pretty well!

Quoted from Clizifer:

Hey thanks for the input guys. I took the left side optic off and cleaned it and now it’s working. Pumped to plays some games on the machine now. One more question, I have this single connector underneath the play field that’s not connected to anything and I can’t find anywhere for it to go. Any idea what it’s for?
[quoted image]

I believe that is for the flashers that were installed in the prototypes under the door inserts. This was left out of the production machines, but the connection was left in the wiring harness. So on production games, it connects to nothing.
