Will the game still work normally (other than saving settings) if the 3 AA batteries are out of the holder?

I was digging around in my attic & remembered that I bought this pyramid at the gift shop in The Luxor casino about 10 years ago. It might look neat on the top of backbox. The sphinx is actually going in.. it's kind of a illusion.
