I'm surprised I have never posted on this thread. Long time owner of a re-import TZ. Some of my mods I built myself like Robby and the TV. Here is my cheap and simple solution for a TV mod. Hallmark ornament, gutted it and installed a lamp in the back and tied it into the GI. Gotta love that shooter lane!

I never really noticed that before. Looks smashed in. Something to fix!

5 volts probably too low. Measure 5 volt test point on MPU and on PDB. If too low(even a very small amount) you can start by re-seating the large Z connector in the backbox.

Man, that is a beautiful shot. I have the same blue clock housing with the prototype decal. I think that is the way to go on the clock. Very nice lighting. I especially like the bright glow under the center ramp.

Nice tribute to Rod. I did these coin return inserts a few years back....

Quoted from Coyote:

After getting back from the first of two work trips Saturday morning, I attacked my TZ and got a lot done this weekend -
IMG_20150927_131839.jpg
Lookat the reflection of that PF!
Anyways, pop quiz, two questions -
Anyone know the part # for these plastic standoffs? Located behind the switch rubber. They keep you from screwing down the plastic standoffs too far -
IMG_20150927_131947.jpg
And, where the heck does this post go? I have all the posts in my game, no open holes or anything...!

24. 03-8371 Spacer Spool #8

Found that on pg 2-40 of TZ operators manual.

Found them for $1.15 at Marco's.

Guys, I've put my TZ up for sale if you know anyone looking. Kinda hate to part with it since I've owned it since 2009. But, I've gotta make room for a GOT premium.

Why wouldn't you just remove the whole clock and sit down at a table to do this work?

Stock up on all the common amps(3,4,5,8,20,1/4) etc. Then the shipping won't kill you.

Quoted from dung:

Any idea what the value would be of a TZ like this.
Bone stock.
Mint playfield and mini playfield.
1 or 2 cracked plastics.
Cabinet is extremely nice. Looks like the lack on the head was touched up slightly. Reds are red.
Not recognizing power ball.
One spot target bracket is bent and needs to be replaced.
Game has 5v reset issue. Hitting both flippers always resets the machine.
Not filthy, but its been a few years since shopped. Rubber is dirty/worn/hard.

I would guess it to be worth 4k-4.5k in that state. Sounds like a game that didn't see a ton of action that just needs to be shopped and a few repairs.

#1560 8 years ago

Go to test menu, then instead of going forwards, go backwards. Should be one of the first functions you come to. "Clear all balls"

Now that I think of it, this function may only be available in the home ROM version.

TV mod I made was cheap and looked great. Just buy this Hallmark ornament. Gut it and install a socket in the back and tie it into the GI. Looks great!

There is some dirt there, but I think what you are seeing is more the color of the wood grain. I would just take a toothbrush and some Novus2 to it, then follow up with a coat or two of wax.

Quoted from Pmaino:

Here is an update on my shooter lane clean up. Here are the before and after shots. Clear coat is still curing but I think it looks a lot better. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi, I am working on a new soundtrack for TZ with Pinsound, Lost in the Deep Funk Zone..
here you can see a video:
» YouTube video

I didn't think it was that bad. But I like everything from ZZ Top to Skrillex so there you go...

#1759 8 years ago

For some real funk, throw some Rock Candy Funk Party in there(Joe Bonamassa's other band).

AE-24-900. The number 24 refers to the gauge of wire and the number 900 refers to the number of windings, so yes those two coils are very similar. But the answer to your question is that manuals are very often wrong. Amazing how many times you will see wrong wire colors, wrong pin numbers, wrong coil numbers etc.

To the other fellows question, you should have 5 steel balls and 1 ceramic. And default settings is for 3 balls per game. If somebody changed it to 4 they probably messed with many other settings as well. I would go into utilities menu and do a factory install to get all your settings back to default.

#2018 7 years ago

Something funky going on in your shooter lane. Looks like there is a post missing and someone decided to add some type of flap?

Here's what it should look like. Except in my picture the diverter is squashed and shouldn't be.

No kidding. I've done some major shop jobs including rebuilding flippers and have charged $350-400.

#2163 7 years ago

This same exact flasher was stuck on my TZ and burned the plastic in two! I found the problem and it was a very unlikely fix. During a complete tear down I found that one of the three flashers up next to the gumball machine had it's socket lugs bent and touching each other. Straightening those out fixed the flasher down by the upper flipper!

#2165 7 years ago

That pic looks to be a ball guide at the rocket launcher.

#2168 7 years ago

The guide is upside down?

#2243 7 years ago

You can get these for 45 cents.

http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=305

But I prefer these for 59 cents, because you can cut them for anything like shooter lanes, ball drops, etc.

Quoted from cheshirefilms:

I believe it's ok to let go of pins sometimes but a BW TZ for a Stern GB? Reaally....?

Hey, I sold my TZ to raise money for a GOT Premium and six months later I'm still happy I did it.

Quoted from Jimmyapple:

Its going into the boot screen where it shows your errors and everything stops working (flippers, sounds, etc.). I have a broken clock that I ordered the fix for by recommendation from Lermod. But I don't know why that would cause a mid game reset. Thoughts?

Do a search for WPC resets. Very common problem having to do with a lower than normal +5vdc. Usually requires replacement of bridge rectifier and capacitors. There is also the Karh(spelling?) add on board fix.

1 week later
#2490 7 years ago

Measure that 12vdc with a meter. I once had a BSD that all optos were acting flakey. The 12volts measured way low. Turned out to be a bridge and cap on the PDB.

#2492 7 years ago

Looks like J-5 pins 1 and 2. You could also measure the same thing on the power driver board J-118 pins 2 and 3.

Quoted from Timmah:

Thanks! I was afraid that "drill it out" is pretty much the solution. Well, not too hard I guess, just an awkward area to work in (either with the drill or re-soldering the lamp if I have to pull everything out to get to the rivet)

Please, do not even think of drilling or dremmeling the rivet while it is still in the game. Take it completely out and work on a bench or table.
