Quoted from Flipper_McGavin:

For my first pinball machine, I was previously looking at only buying a brand new modern machine as I prefer fresh and new , but the Twilight Zone caught my attention just because it's #4 in the top 100.
How does the number of game modes, actions, and mechanical complexity of the playfield on a Twilight Zone compare to something new from JJP or American? I was looking at something like Wonka or Oktoberfest.

Of any game from the 90s, TZ probably comes closest to the complexity of those newer machines in terms of mechs as well as gameplay. No lcds and so forth. But there is a lot going on in TZ. Now you didn’t ask this next part but I’ll share that My personal taste is that the newer machines have gone overboard and there is too much techno wizardry at the expense of solid straight-up gameplay. If you haven’t done played TZ try to find one to see if you like it.

Quoted from Crunch:

Is there a correct way to level the game to prevent center ball drain down when the ball exits the loop

Well is your game level now, side to side? Use a level and level your game. Use an inclinometer to set the pitch to 6.5 degrees if you want to follow the factory recommended pitch. If you still have stdm issues check if anything is screwey with the ball path on the pf. I don’t notice this as a particular issue on my TZ.

Or maybe I don’t notice it because I usually hit the ball with the upper left flipper. You can also hold the upper left flipper up as ball is coming down to bounce it off the right side of pf down to left flipper.

Can the bulb in the extra ball button be replaced or need I buy a new button? I thought it could be replaced but in trying to take apart the button it’s not budging and doesn’t seem perhaps like it’s designed to take apart. Either than or the plastic insert that holds the switch is really stuck. Thx

Quoted from GILV:

Here's my topper set up, only thing missing is pinballs in the gumball machine.
I bought the game with the pyramid/eye topper which had 4 screws holding it down on the head
I added the gumball machine and it's held on top by one of the head bolts, the car is held by a metal stick that is screwed into one of the pyramid screws, exactly the same thing for the blue sign, I have'nt figured out yet how to hold the door behind the sign.
[quoted image][quoted image]

I once put pinballs in a gum machine like that and the glass broke. It just wasn’t designed to hold that much weight. So just use caution or maybe something clever like fill the middle with some material and just balls on the outside.

Just for fun…. When was the last time you ever heard of a NIB TZ discovered or put in the market? And What price do you think one would bring today (assuming no hidden issues).

Quoted from Dalinar:

Appreciate some thoughts
Debating buying a TZ table (big fan) but new to owning pinball and only have a new stern. My worry is that the repairs will be beyond me very quickly, but I am willing to learning (technology background but not mechanical/electrical).
So bottom line wondering if I am setting myself up for a world of pain even if what I buy is well maintained.

If it’s in good working order to start I wouldn’t worry. Lots of help here if you have issues. New pin or old they all need work at times. Maintenance and repairs are part of ownership so you may as well welcome problems to fix.

I’m going to list my TZ. I’d be grateful for opinions on a fair price in today’s market. Location, Northeast.

- All original game in good condition; very clean all throughout
- All PF metal parts have been chrome plated (nice touch).
- 100% working. No credit dot. Plays super (see vid)
- Cabinet in great shape. Minimal fade. Some minor touch ups. There is a stain on bottom of cab (not visible in normal use, obv)
- No pf wear except for one small blemish near slot machine scoop (see pic)
- Just cleaned, waxed, new rubber.
- Off-board battery holder
- A number of the typical mods
- w/manual, new spare powerball, other parts

Gameplay video:

Quoted from atg1469:

I believe his is all chrome parts, not just the ramp and wireforms, which is all that pinball plating sells. If so, there’s a lot more work involved in swapping these parts out, which people like me would recognize and pay for. I 100% could be mistaken, and maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part too, but I’d never let that game go for less than $10k.

That’s correct, all metal pf parts were removed and chrome plated by prior owner. I remember discussing it w/him. It was a lot of work and labor of love.

Thank you all for your opinions, it’s been helpful.
