Well, I joined the club again. Just traded for my 3rd TZ.
My last high end I had, I got a trade offer I couldn't refuse, but after almost a year without it, I had to get one back.
The parts ordering has begun and will do another high end restore on it in the spring/summer.
It's a big job [and expensive] but the end result will be worth it!

I'll just drop this here. Taking photos of my machine I'm getting ready to list in the market and this photo really stood out to me.

white door decals are available at planetarypinball. it's a micro 3rd magnet playfield.
I actually have a REAL prototype gumball/collect spiral when lit plastic in the coin tub. they originally came with a decal over the plastic of the gumball machine. it's a rare piece to find.

it's kind of an imposter proto but has almost all the features and artwork of a proto. no red boards obviously.

#1250 8 years ago

that's the one. it's really cool you know the entire history of your game.

Prototype/Sample sign. No, it's not for sale. It goes with my TZ when/if I ever sell it.

I sold one in 2007 on ebay for $150. Some people want their TZ to look like it was originally intended with 3rd magnet, this sign, green lock, white clock face, white door on head, Gum-Ball flashers, etc. Mine has all that stuff. I agree the new gumball sign looks better and that's why it's on my high end, but it's there in case someone wants to change it out someday.

I have a mirco playfield that had the hole already installed with artwork correctly screened around it.
I wouldn't alter a factory one to have it personally.
The powerall has to cycle thru the trough so it knows where it is. It [powerall] has to be in the gumball machine for it to do the multiball "trick".
So if you turn your machine off everyday, you have to play for quite awhile for it to know where the ball is to activate the mode.

So the expense and time it takes to install it doesn't really make the mod worth it IMHO.
my .02 of course

With the playfield up right and ball removed, loosen the 2 hex screws holding the sensor just enough to move it a little. Place a ball in position 1 with one hand and move the board until the LED on the board comes on. Like others said, it can be damn close to the ball but not touching the ball. Tighten the screws making sure the light stays on when a ball is in position 1. That's really all there is to it. I would highly suggest soldering the wires directly to the sensor board and the sensor. Just takes 2 problems completely out of the equation and really isn't any more work to remove later if need be. Every TZ that goes thru the shop is modded in this way and have NEVER had a call back on trough proximity problems.

Just sold my TZ today and buyer didn't want some of the mods and had extras for it anyhow.
Don't plan on doing another high end anytime soon, so I thought I'd see if anyone wants this stuff.

Note on Robby - one of the tiny circle "antennas" has broken off. It is included and just needs reaffixed.

Left inlane drop/switch protector helps a LOT and the protector where the ball falls off the miniplayfield in front of the gumball machine.
I've shopped a LOT of TZs and that's really the only 2 problem areas. the slot and piano rarely have damage for some reason.
But if you're doing 2 might as well do them all, huh? *Some* cliffys change the way the game plays like xmen. So give them a try. You can always remove them.

I'm selling these on ebay in case some of you might need a set to replace broken ones on your game.

pinballinc.com has a TZ clock board that is about 1/2 the price of Ingos and works perfectly well if you're on a budget.
Bought 4 of them at expo and have used them all on shop jobs at work and each one was rock solid.

I have an Ingo in my personal TZ and it's great, too.

Ouch, that sucks, pesmerga. Not sure I've ever seen that available in all my years in pinball. I suppose it could be made or something that would at least work. I'll sure keep an eye out for one for you though. We have a lot of games come thru our shop and sometimes there are extra wireforms in them.....
