Checking in! New TZ owner here! I played a ton of pinball at the Texas pinball festival this year and I kept going back to TZ as my favorite game of the show. Picked up a beautiful super clean re-import locally. Minimal wear plays amazing. Pretty much a virgin as well other then the button battery mod. Can't wait to add some goodies. Color DMD, update the game rom (9.4home is the best for it?), Cliffiy protectors, (all wood is in perfect condition) Game Blades, Gum balls, and a better LED treatment. Glad to be part of the TZ owners! This one I think will be a keeper for a long time!

I've seen some manuals on-line they are different then the one that came with the game. Is this a different version?

Is there any must have mods for TZ other then the ones I've listed? Lemme know thanks!

Finally got my TZ all shopped out. Tear down, clean, polish, and wax. LED treatment, new balls, and no credit dots! Next up ColorDMD. So nice to play a fresh shopped pin especially when it's a TZ!

Quoted from Yelobird:

Looks Great and for sure Not an easy game to shop! Hard to tell from the photos (and nitpicking!) but that right spiral magnet could be decked and leveled closer to the playfield to smooth it out and minimize wear. Looks great enjoy one of the best games made!

Thanks! It was a little harder then most I've shopped. I didn't take pictures along the way as I usually do and I pulled some of it apart months ago! I was scared I would forget where it all went as parts got shuffled around over that time but when I was done I didn't have any spare parts laying around! That's always a good thing! I was looking at that magnet as well. What's the best way to deck and level the magnet? It is an amazing fun game! Reminds me a tiny bit of TAF with the lay out but TAF don't compare in the least bit with the game play. TZ blows TAF away!

Quoted from Durzel:

Could be just my eyes or camera bloom but those LEDs look super bright, particularly the slings and the mini-playfield street lamp.

That's camera bloom. I found the camera don't like certain color LED's that's for sure! It's actually nice in person. Not to much but just enough to play in the dark or lighted room.

Quoted from Yelobird:

Best game ever and you're a courageous person shopping one without pictures lol. For the magnet I personally just remove the core and use a straight file in a vise. Cleans up fairly easy just take your time. Many simply buy a new magnet core (PinballLife) and swap it out as they don't cost much. Looks great enjoy your new game!
Pinball Life magnet core:

Oh nice. I've owned a few pins with the magnets but never really had to service them. I added it on my wish list for my next order with Pinball life! Thanks! And yes I don't know how the hell I put that thing back together with no pictures! I just took my time, stared at the part, and thought oh I know where that went! hahaha

I’m in the process of repairing my clock and need to replace the front faceplate to which you attach the clock sticker. The manual lists the part as 03-8835 however no one seems to stock it. Anyone know where you can get one from?

In stock here I just bought one! Beautiful piece!

Spent some more time (and money) on my TZ over the weekend.. ColorDMD (a must) Some new color blades, and a sticker from Pinball pimp. The only other thing is I'd like to light up the skill shot. Very dark over there. Anyone add some light to that area? I've seen the LED's that go under the red plastic in the ball lane but not sure if they light up the actual skill shot area. Now to play the hell out of it!

+3 Toss that cardboard and do the plexi. Fits like a glove and looks amazing!

Quoted from calprog:

Quick question. My TZ is resetting to factory settings every time i turn the machine on and off. Any ideas on what may be causing this? Any help is appreciated.

I've seen where there was previous slight acid damage from a battery blew up long ago and will cause this. You might have to take the board out and inspect very good. I had a T2 doing weird stuff. I lifted some chips to socket them and found acid damage under the chips that ate away at some traces.

I ran into a little drama with my TZ recently. During play, (mainly with multiball) all of a sudden I loose my flippers, display, and credit dot city. I'm thinking hmmm I find F116 blown. Replace it and we are playing again. Then randomly boom it blows again. This was going on and off for maybe 2 weeks. So now I get to a point where I put the fuse in, start a game and boom pops the fuse. I noticed the clock on start up was freaking out a little so I inspect around that and sure enough, some clown at one point maybe replaced the motor and just spun the wires and a touch of electrical tape. Well over time the wire slowly moved near the wireform and sure enough the damn thing is barely touching the wireform! Nothing like sending 12 volts to ground!!! Some solder, heatshrink, and we are back in business! If I didn't hear that clock make a funky sound on start up I would have never looked there! I started pulling mods, thinking the main board needs a rebuild, reset circuit, and it seemed to happen around when I was going in the gumball machine so I thought that was my issue as well... NOPE! all I can say is take your time and fix the games properly! I know who worked on this pin at several times over the years before I bought it and I'm kinda surprised to find this kinda repair. Well I can look back and laugh now and sure enough TZ was so happy I fixed it, I had my highest game ever on it! Everybody happy happy happy again!

Opto board issue... My TZ was in storage for about a year. Was working fine when it went into storage. Now the game boots up but the ball won't kick out. You can drop a ball on the PF and play. So I start looking around and find the opto board in the through is dead. I check the opto board under the PF and the one cap on there exploded. Took out the LED next to it as well. Of course I get the cap that pops and is corrosive!
So I replaced the cap, stole a led off an Asteroids board I had laying around, re-flowed everything while I was there and still the same. The LED does come on the opto board. I also noticed the opto at the top of the gum ball wire form is not working in switch test mode. Seems all the other optos are working. Gum ball wireform and through. When the cap and led was off I did tone out all the traces as well. All toned out good. Figured I'd post for some next steps if anyone has ran into something like this on their TZ. I'll keep testing... Thanks!
