Quoted from Phatchit:

Reset all the ribbon cables a few times In the back box. If they are original have him get a whole new set .

This is unlikely to help with power issues unless you install the ribbon cable off-by-one in either axis. In those cases the machine typically does not get past POST so you won't be resetting during game play.

Quoted from Phatchit:

Also have him purchase the 5v rest board . It is really easy plug and play and helps .

It doesn't "help". It shifts power derivation and puts additional stress on other parts of the circuitry.

Quoted from meSz:

He has the KAHR WPC Power Fix Daughterboard

It is NOT a "fix". It is a PATCH - like a bandage. As mentioned above ... it shifts power derivation and puts additional stress on other parts of the circuitry.

Nothing is "free" - including this patch. It will cost you something.

The price of this patch is rendering most of the advice in this section of the Pinwiki useless. Anything in the +5V derivation path:

  • BR2/C5
  • Q1
  • J101-1 and J101-2
  • F113
  • TP2

Ignore all that advice because with the patch board installed it is irrelevant.

First thing ... take the board out of the circuit and try again. It might actually work just fine.

Quoted from meSz:

so what's the general consensus here?

The below isn't the general consensus. It's my opinion. It's non-invasive and a quick and easy thing to do.

Quoted from DumbAss:

Remove the "fix" board and see what happens. You might be surprised that the machine starts working properly. You can also re-seat the connectors that plug into the "Z" connector. More often than not it is the headers and connectors rather than the electronic components on the circuit board. You can potentially exclude this by re-seating the connectors. If after re-seating the connectors the problem goes away you can re-install the "fix" board if you want. Tarnished headers and connectors will also cause the "fix" board to have problems.
