I go into the utilities menu and set the time and date but from there the time never changes. I had a Judge Dredd with the same layout and never had this problem. Any ideas?

The dreaded clock issue. Everyone who owns a TZ will deal with this sooner or later. A quick search from the main forum page using the words tz clock lists 108 existing threads regarding this exact issue. There is some great info so I would suggest grabbing your favorite beverage and start from there.

Are you saying the internal clock or the clock on the playfield? Does your TZ have batteries or a NVRAM type memory chip? If it's an NVRAM type chip, it will not advance the time.

You know, my mind went directly to the playfield clock. I hope my post did not sound condescending. And Doc, your 100% on NVRAM not advancing the time. I admit I was stumped with the first one I encountered.

Both. So I am assuming that if the internal clock doesn't work, neither will the playfield clock. The playfield clock has a new rottendog board. The pin does have batteries and I am not sure of what a NVRAM chip is.

I added nvram and wasn't aware it won't keep internal time. Very disappointing. I was going to slowly switch over. Looks like it's back to remote holders.

Are you also losing your settings every time you turn the game on? Or is it just the time?

I'm having a similar issue. I've just gone top to bottom on my TZ, replacing many many things as the previous owner robbed a bunch of connectors and such.
Anywho, to the clock issue on mine. Just installed a new rottendog board, I noticed two wires hanging out of the right side clip to the clock board (a ground and switch control) , put those back in and my clock works 100% - in test. (Despite the new clock board, the clock lights were also out, but that was just a driver board connector)
On the first game the clock will work, but then gets stuck on a random time and then later might resume, though incorrectly. After a test menu or power on the clock usually returns to 12, like it's suppose to. During test, the clock works fine in reverse and forward both slow and fast. Sometimes though, the clock will just stop during the test. I'm thinking it's possibly the clock motor.
I've also upgraded to a new under playfield driver for the clock. Haven't spent a ton of time looking more into it, but I've been ironing out a million little things to get it playing excellent. Clock is now the last issue. My game has a new CPU keeping time as well...

Just the time.

Are all your batteries installed the same way (positive up), and are they fresh/new?

I set the clock and then it never moves. When I go back to check the time on the cpu it is exactly the same time and date. It wont budge.

What game ROM are you running?

Do you have the "Show Date/Time" setting set to "Yes"?

If not, set it to "yes" so you can see the date/time scroll through the attract mode screens.

Just trying to eliminate all other variables one by one.
